  • Patent number: 6698172
Abstract: A lawn mower includes a front wheel suspension system as well as a rear wheel suspension system. The front wheel suspension system includes upper and lower suspension struts that are pivotably connected between a main frame of the lawn mower and a longitudinal suspension strut that is connected to a front wheel. A spring is connected between an extension of the upper suspension strut and a front transverse member of the main frame. The rear wheel suspension system includes upper and lower links that are pivotably connected between vertical struts that are connected between upper and lower frame members of the main frame and a motor mount. A spring is connected between a spring bracket extending from the upper frame member and either the motor mount or a motor mounted in the motor mount. In order to prevent scalping while turning, a floating cutter deck is suspended from the front and rear wheel suspension systems rather than from the main frame or chassis of the mower.

  • Patent number: 6672957
Abstract: The cleaning apparatus of a combine harvester has an oscillating sieve assembly and an oscillating pan assembly beneath the sieve assembly. The sieve assembly comprises a pair of superimposed sieves, both of which are mounted on the same frame for oscillation in unison and always in the same direction. The pan assembly comprises a clean grain pan and a tailings return pan both mounted on a common frame that is separate from the frame of the sieve assembly so that the pans oscillate separately from the sieves. The sieve and pan assemblies are mounted and driven in such a manner that the feed stroke of each assembly is in the same direction as its direction of conveyance, so as to maximize their ability to deliver materials in the intended direction.

  • Patent number: 6668532
Abstract: A harvesting machine for harvesting corn and similar crops on stalks has at least one circulating endless conveyor for engaging a crop, wherein the endless conveyor forms a crop feed area for feeding the crop to an inlet opening of a processing device for further processing the crop. The endless conveyor has a lower cutting plane for the crop with outwardly extending conveying and guiding elements and at least one cutting blade arranged below the conveying and guiding elements. The cutting blade has a stepped configuration and, viewed in a running direction of the conveying and guiding elements, has cutting segments. Each cutting segment has a cutting edge and extends at a slant outwardly relative to a circulating path of the conveying and guiding elements. The cutting blade has cutting segment steps positioned between two neighboring ones of the cutting segments, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6523333
Abstract: In a control system for an agricultural combine having an adjustable platform, a sensor arm is coupled to a rotatable sensor shaft and adapted to engage and ride along the ground to monitor the operating height of the platform. The sensor arm has a continuously curved operation portion and provides a faster response time as ground contour changes are encountered. Moreover, the response increases for lower operating heights to reduce the possibility that the platform will contact the ground and to reduce the time to adjust the operating height to the desired setting. Thus, operating speed and productivity may be increased.

  • Patent number: 6484481
Abstract: A mower includes a plurality of cutting units carried on a traction vehicle in a staggered and overlapped orientation to provide a cutting swath. The cutting units are rotary type cutting units having cut-outs at each front corner thereof to eliminate or reduce streaking between adjacent cutting units. In addition, each cutting unit has two spaced, ovately shaped ground engaging rollers adjacent each front corner. The ovately shaped rollers are positioned so that a tapered outer end of each roller points to the outside of the cutting unit with the broader, basal end of the roller being positioned closer to the longitudinal centerline of the cutting unit. Such rollers support the front of the cutting unit and allow the front of the cutting unit to roll over the ground.

  • Patent number: 6435965
Abstract: A rotary threshing and separation unit, comprising a rotor housing with a feeding zone, separation zone and is discharge zone, parts of the circumferential housing being closed and other parts having openings, rotary driven threshing and separation rotor arranged in the rotor housing, beater plates fixed on the threshing and separation rotor, fan to produce a main air flow stream and auxiliary air flow stream through the rotor housing, and wherein baffle plates are adjustable and located between the sieve and grain collection element wherein the baffle plates effect the auxiliary air flow stream. The baffle plates are adjustable in position, length and width parallel and traverse to the rotary threshing and separation unit axis.

  • Patent number: 6416405
Abstract: In a combine incorporating blowers (9) for spreading the discharge mixture of chopped straw and chaff over a wide area, the kinetic energy obtained through the medium of a chopper or feed device located prior to the blowers is retained so as to save on drive power by making the material outlet opening (4′) of the chopper (4) or the feed device lie in the same plane as the inlet opening (9′) of the blower (9).
