  • Patent number: 11325345
Abstract: A method of forming a fiber-bound engineered material utilizing carrier screens is provided that imparts an intended characteristic at an intended relative location. Also provided are articles formed of fiber-bound engineered materials manufactured utilizing carrier screens. A fiber layer is placed adjacent at least one carrier screen and entangled with additional fibers in a manner to create a non-uniform engineered material. The lack of uniformity of a fiber-bound engineered material may be accomplished through manipulation of the fibers and/or through fiber binding a scrim. The fiber layer binds with additional fibers through entanglement such that a mechanical connection between the entangled fibers is provided. This entanglement allows the fibers to bind without supplemental adhesives, interlacing, or connections.

  • Patent number: 11304468
Abstract: A hat includes a first and second overlapping panel in the rear of the body and an elastic band. The overlapping panels each comprise an arcuate edge. When overlapped, the arcuate edges define an aperture. An elastic band attaches to the arcuate edges and transitions from the first arcuate edge to the second arcuate edge in a looping manner. When a wearer pulls her hair through the aperture, the aperture increases in size. Once the wearer's hair is pulled through the aperture, the aperture decreases in size and provides a secure fit around the wearer's hair. The elastic loop supports the long hair upwards in a manner that prevents the hat from riding up or the hair from falling onto a rear brim.

  • Patent number: 11299833
Abstract: The present invention includes aligning ring guides disposed at opposite angles to each other to force the tubular knitted fabric to turn in a spiral direction allowing the wales or rows of stitches to rest at an angle with respect to the edge of the tube of fabric. This is the normal or resting state and position of the wales in a wash-tested sample or laundered garment. This is accomplished by a pair of add-ons for torque and skew reduction in a tubular knitted fabric, which includes a crossbeam and a pair of angled ring guide assemblies that depend from the crossbeam. Each angled ring guide assembly has a mount with a fixed portion and a movable portion, and further has a guide ring, with each angled ring guide assembly being disposed on the movable portion. The fixed portion contains a crescent-shaped slot, with the movable portion containing a peg that rides in the slot.

  • Patent number: 11229253
Abstract: Impact energy absorbing devices, in some embodiments, may be configured as a helmet having suspension elements employing “rate activated tethers” (RATs), a speed-sensitive flexible strapping material. The RATs are configured to suspend a helmet shell on the head of a wearer, so that impact to the helmet causes extension of the RATs. The RATs provide for: (1) steady force over long strokes, and (2) a stroke force that increases with increasing impact velocity. Standard impact testing of a helmeted headform shows that the RAT suspension decreases head accelerations by 50% relative to a standard suspension system. This decrease in head acceleration is expected to lead to a reduced likelihood of brain and head injury. Because the RATs absorb energy during tensile extension, they offer increases in energy absorption efficiency. These RAT suspensions can potentially replace or complement existing helmet pad and suspension systems in military, sports, and industrial safety-wear.
