Patent number: 7349533Abstract: The present invention provides a Universal Signaling Point (USP) that acts as a liaison between a call signaling network and a number of switching entities, which support lines, trunks, or a combination thereof. During a transition of the lines or trunks from a donor entity to a host entity, call signaling between the host and donor entities and the SS7 network is routed through the USP. When transitioning the lines or trunks from the donor entity to the host entity, call signaling messages intended for the donor entity are routed to either the donor or host entity, whichever actually supports the lines or trunks. The USP is provided information indicative of whether a line or trunk has been transitioned to the host entity. The USP can compare information provided in the call signaling message with the transition information and route the message to the appropriate donor or host entity.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2002Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Naile S. Patent number: 7203526Abstract: A wireless interface device services communications between a wirelessly enabled host and at least one user input device. The wireless interface device includes a wireless interface unit, a processing unit, an input/output unit, and may include a power management unit. The wireless interface unit wirelessly interfaces with the wirelessly enabled host. The processing unit and the wireless interface unit interact to determine when the wireless interface unit has established a link with the wirelessly enabled host. When the wireless interface unit has established a link with the wirelessly enabled host, the processing unit interacts with the input/output unit to direct the input/output unit to output a link established indication. When the wireless interface unit enters a sniff mode or a park mode, a second link established indication may be provided. When the link is taken down or lost, a link non-established indication may be provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2003Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Edward H. Patent number: 7200224Abstract: A hinge device for a portable wireless terminal with a first housing and a second housing being rotatably connected to the first housing is provided, comprising a double hinge arm rotatably connected respectively to the first and second housings and a pair of hinge modules for stopping the rotation of the double hinge arm at various angles. The hinge device includes a pair of rotary axes, allowing one selected housing to be rotated about the other housing by 360°. A portable wireless terminal employing the hinge device can accommodate various units such as a display device, an inputting unit, among others, and the functions of the terminal are easily modified and extended. Furthermore, various information terminals are easily integrated as a single portable wireless terminal. Moreover, since a user can open or close the terminal at various angles, a portable wireless terminal employing the hinges is convenient to use.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2003Date of Patent: April 3, 2007Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sung-Sun Park, Jong-Gun Bae

Patent number: 7149299Abstract: System and methods for allowing the extension of the ISDN/GSM Call Completion to Busy Subscriber Supplementary Service across a Network Boundary between a general Switched Circuit Network (SCN) using ISUP as call control protocol, and an IP Packet Network using SIP as session control protocol. The methods define a set of new protocol elements to be included in the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) in order to make it possible to implement the required service logic in SIP User Agents and Clients. The methods also define the set of sequences, timers and use cases that a Network Gateway must fulfil in order to allow users from both networks to invoke the service for calls going through the Network Gateway in question; the Network Gateway represents an end-point for both SCN and SIP domains.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2002Date of Patent: December 12, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Manuel Cardeno Triano, Jose Antonio Sanchez Cembellin

Patent number: 7142657Abstract: In a telecommunications network having switching points (such as SSPs and/or MSCs) controlled by a control point (such as an SCP), the switching points are provisioned to send messages to the control point when they encounter trigger conditions during processing of a call to a called station that has a forward-to number. When the control point receives the messages, it determines whether a loop condition exists, i.e., whether the call has already been forwarded from the forward-to number. If the control point determines that a loop condition exists, the control point instructs the switching point so as not to forward the call to the forward-to number.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2002Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Charles E. Patent number: 7120447Abstract: A method and apparatus to dynamically control selectable vocoder rates in a CDMA network to optimally improve forward and reverse link capacity as necessary. To improve capacity, a number of vocoder rates are used, each requiring a different average data rate and providing a different level of voice quality. Vocoder rates are reduced to lower sector average output power thereby improving forward and reverse link capacity. Forward and reverse link loading are compared to established thresholds that, if exceeded, would trigger a forward link and a reverse link vocoder rate adjustment as necessary to improve network capacity. The forward link vocoder rate and reverse link vocoder rate may be set independently or the reverse link vocoder rate may be set as a function of the forward link vocoder rate to maintain a link balance.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2003Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Ashvin Chheda, James Weisert, Andy McGregor
