  • Patent number: 7270123
Abstract: A nebulizer for efficiently and reliably delivering aerosolized fluid to an inhaling patient is disclosed. The nebulizer, in one embodiment, includes a fluid channel air inlet and fluid channel air inlet valve responsive to either a manual force external of the nebulizer, or a patient's breathing, to begin the nebulization process. The nebulizer also includes a fluid return channel to a fluid source, such as a removable vial, containing fluid to be aerosolized.

  • Patent number: 7191780
Abstract: A continuous high-frequency oscillation breathing device delivers therapy during both inhalation and exhalation in order to assist in clearings secretions the lungs. A fixed shrouded-venturi patient interface circuit is combined with medicated aerosol to deliver continuous high-frequency oscillation therapy. Fixed open apertures in the patient interface circuit allow ingress and egress of flow, and are calibrated to allow exhalation and prevent stacking of successive breaths.

  • Patent number: 7182743
Abstract: A foot splint for the prevention and rehabilitation of plantar fasciitis by maintaining a wearer's foot and, hence, his plantar fascia, in a preselected amount of dorsiflexion. The foot splint includes a footplate for supporting the wearer's foot, a lateral strut extending along the lower leg of the wearer and having a strap for releaseably attaching the strut to the wearer's leg, and a wrap for wrapping around the foot of the wearer. A soft insole may be provided to cushion the wearer's foot from the footplate. The wrap, insole and footplate provide a comfortable “slipper-like” feel for the wearer. Moreover, the foot splint is particularly suited for use during sleep since it is light-weight and open configuration allows for the wearer to move unimpeded between sleep positions, resulting in a more restful sleep. Moreover, the lateral placement of the strut keeps the rigid portions of the foot splint from inadvertently abrading, striking, or otherwise interfering with the wearer's other leg.

  • Patent number: 7183455
Abstract: To provide an adhesive dressing that allows a wearer to determine growth of bacteria, if any, as early as possible when the adhesive dressing is staying on the skin of the wearer for wound healing. The adhesive dressing includes a see-through backing made of a silicone material and four circular keepers provided on one surface of the backing. The keepers are impregnated with chemical compositions that change in color to the extent that the color change is visible to the naked eye when bacteria in a wound grow. The conditions to trigger the color change varies from composition to composition. An adhesive is applied along the periphery of the backing. When bacteria grow in the wound, the change in color of the chemical compositions impregnated in the keepers can be visually checked through the backing. This contributes to prompt and early treatment of infected wounds.

  • Patent number: 7163518
Abstract: Apparatus attaches to the leg at or below the knee to take the shock of walking off the foot and ankle. The foot is encased in a boot. Two spaced-apart tubes extend upward from a subfloor mounted below the boot. The boot is mounted for sliding up and down on the tubes. A pair of parallel elongate rods are attached at their upper ends to the upper portion of the leg at or below the knee, such that the lower ends of the rods are in the tubes. A spring, preferably a gas compression spring, is inserted into each tube so that the lower end of each rod compresses the spring as body weight is put on the subfloor in walking. The subfloor moves toward the boot as the springs are compressed, reducing some of the shock of walking and transferring forces to the leg. The rods may be attached to the leg by a cast, brace or orthosis.

  • Patent number: 7154017
Abstract: A method for making a wound dressing having an absorbent core includes the steps of inserting a plurality of projection elements into a distal surface of the absorbent core such that the projection elements extend into a thickness of the absorbent core and are suitably heated to impart their shape in the absorbent core. The projection elements are removed from the absorbent core to form receptacles therein. A discrete portion of at least one absorbent material is inserted in each of the receptacles.
