  • Patent number: 7561856
Abstract: In a network employing code division multiplex access, a distortion compensation amplifying apparatus is provided which is capable of making quick response to carry out the distortion compensation with high accuracy even if the signal power to be inputted thereto varies rapidly. In this distortion compensation amplifying apparatus, the renewal of a distortion compensation coefficient in a renewing unit is complemented on the basis of a result of amplification in an amplifier with respect to a signal code-division-multiplexed in a pseudo-signal multiplexing unit.

  • Patent number: 7536165
Abstract: A direct conversion receiver includes a detector that provides a measure of bias offset that is caused by component mismatches in the direct conversion mixer, and a corrective network that reduces the bias offset based on this measure. The direct conversion mixer demodulates a radio-frequency (RF) input signal via mixing with a local-oscillator (LO) signal to provide a differential baseband output signal. A differential peak detector compares the peak signal value at each side of the mixer's differential output, and a differential integrator averages the difference between these peak signal values to provide the measure of bias offset. The corrective network adds a correction offset to each of the local oscillator local oscillator paths on each of the switching pairs that provide the differential output, but opposite to the local oscillator connections.

  • Patent number: 7529531
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for estimating the frequency of a sleep or slow clock using a fast clock, such as a temperature compensated crystal oscillator. The disclosed apparatus include an estimator having a first counter that receives sleep clock synchronized pulses issuing each cycle of the sleep clock period, yet are synchronized to a fast clock. The slow clock synchronized pulses are counted up to a predetermined number; whereupon a full count signal is issued. A second counter receives the full count signal and increments each time the full count signal is received. A third counter counts fast clock cycles until the full count signal occurs. Based on the number of counts of the slow and fast clock cycles, the frequency of the slow clock may be determined using only the domain of the fast clock for performing the measurement thereby tying accuracy of the measurement to the accuracy of the fast clock.

  • Patent number: 7526261
Abstract: Methods and systems for vector combining power amplification are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a plurality of signals are individually amplified, then summed to form a desired time-varying complex envelope signal. Phase and/or frequency characteristics of one or more of the signals are controlled to provide the desired phase, frequency, and/or amplitude characteristics of the desired time-varying complex envelope signal. In another embodiment, a time-varying complex envelope signal is decomposed into a plurality of constant envelope constituent signals. The constituent signals are amplified equally or substantially equally, and then summed to construct an amplified version of the original time-varying envelope signal. Embodiments also perform frequency up-conversion.

  • Patent number: 7526264
Abstract: An N×M crosspoint switch allows a signal from any one of the N inputs to be routed to one or more of the M crosspoint switch outputs. The switches within the crosspoint switch can be configured as voltage mode or current mode switches. In voltage mode switching an input to the crosspoint switch is provided to an input device, such as an amplifier, having a low output impedance. The output of the low impedance device is provided to a switch that connects the output of the low impedance device to a high input impedance device, such as a band translation device. In current mode switching, the low impedance output of the input device is connected to selectively activated high isolation transconductance devices having high input impedances. The outputs of the transconductance devices are connected to low impedance devices that operate as summing nodes.

  • Patent number: 7522885
Abstract: A method for continuously determining the required dynamic range for an analog-to-digital converter by determining the received signal strength and using this received signal strength value in combination with the overall dynamic range for the ADC and the target resolution of the ADC to decode a radio channel in the absence of interference, wherein the target resolution is also related to the type of decoding to be performed subsequent to analog-to-digital conversion. The method allows for a reduction in power consumption associated with the ADC, especially when the incoming signal is received with few interfering radio channels and with a relatively high signal strength. The present method can be combined with gain control and analog alert detection.

  • Patent number: 7444166
Abstract: A low-cost diversity receiver includes two receiver units for a primary path and a secondary/diversity path. The first receiver unit is compliant with, for example, IS-98D requirements. The second receiver unit is not fully compliant with the IS-98D requirements (e.g., may meet requirements for sensitivity but not for out-of-band rejection). The second receiver unit is wideband and designed with lower power consumption, less area, and lower cost than the first receiver unit. For a multi-antenna receiver, the two receiver units are used to simultaneously process two received signals from two antennas. For a single-antenna receiver, one of the two receiver units is used to process a received signal from one antenna. For a dual-band design, each receiver unit can operate at two frequency bands. Narrowband circuit blocks are used for the first receiver unit, and wideband circuit blocks are used for the second receiver unit.

  • Patent number: 7418249
Abstract: A demodulator demodulates a received signal. A decoder performs inverse-spread spectrum processing on a demodulated signal. The decoder calculates a CIR value and outputs it to a CPU and a predictor. The predictor derives a next CIR value of the next reception time slot from the CIR value. The next CIR value is converted into a DRC with using a CIR-DRC conversion table. The CPU processes reception data internally or supplies those data to an externally connected PC via an external IF unit. The CPU determines, on the basis of the CIR value, a communication quality index of which to inform a user, and causes a display unit to display the index by an antenna mark. The index is supplied to the external PC via the external IF unit. Therefore, the user can recognize the communication quality by referencing to the index which indicates variation of the radio environment.
