  • Patent number: 8483982
Abstract: An automated emergency power supply system (EPSS) and testing solution that records generator load values and engine exhaust temperature values to evaluate whether an EPSS test satisfies legislated test criteria. The EPSS test is carried out under software control, which initiates a test by instructing an automatic transfer switch (ATS) to change its status to a test status, causing the essential loads to be powered by a generator instead of a main utility power source. Power monitors record the ATS and generator status during the test as well as electrical parameter data from the ATS and generator and exhaust temperature data and other engine parameter data from the generator. When the test is concluded, the ATS is instructed to return the status to normal so that power delivery is resumed from the main power source. The electrical and engine parameter data is analyzed and compared against legislated test criteria to determine a pass/fail result of the EPSS test.

  • Patent number: 8478558
Abstract: A method for processing a pulse width modulated signal from a temperature sensor, wherein the signal varies non-linearly and non-exponentially with changes in temperature. An exponential equation is defined that is closely fitted to the relationship between a characteristic of the signal and the temperature. The signal from the sensor is processed by measuring the characteristic to produce a sensor value. That sensor value then is employed to solve the exponential equation which produces a value for the temperature.

Abstract: A system and method may be used to calculate insulin on board (IOB) for an extended bolus being delivered by an insulin infusion pump. In general, the system and method calculates an extended bolus IOB value for the extended bolus, which takes into account the insulin currently on board from the extended bolus and the insulin scheduled to be delivered by the extended bolus over a subsequent time period equivalent to a duration of insulin action. The extended bolus IOB value may be used to calculate a suggested bolus.

  • Patent number: 8463569
Abstract: A method of determining the heading of an excavator at a worksite uses a magnetic field sensor, mounted on the excavator, inclinometers that provide an indication of the pitch and roll of the excavator, a gyroscopic sensor that senses the rotational rate of the excavator about the Z axis of the magnetic field sensor, and a processor circuit, having an associated memory. A calibration table of data is created and stored using the gyroscopic sensor as the excavator is rotated at a uniform velocity. The sensed indications of the magnetic field from the coordinate reference frame of the sensor are transformed to the local level plane coordinate reference frame using the outputs from the inclinometers.

  • Patent number: 8437968
Abstract: A method is disclosed for monitoring the vibration of a rotating shaft including, measuring a current shaft position and determining a centroid of the shaft. The current shaft sector is then determined. The current distance between the centroid and the current shaft position may then be determined. The current distance is compared with a previously stored maximum distance for that sector, and if greater, the current shaft position and current distance is stored as the new maximum for that sector. After a predetermined period of time, the maximum displacement between the stored maximum positions is calculated, which represents the maximum shaft displacement peak to peak. This value may then be visually displayed or automatically monitored by shaft control computers.

  • Patent number: 8433541
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring the operation of a wind energy installation. State data relating to the wind energy installation is recorded and discrepancies are found between the state data and an associated comparison value. A failure probability of the wind energy installation is determined based on any found discrepancy. An availability value for the wind energy installation is determined from the ratio of the actually produced amount of electrical energy to the total amount of energy which can potentially be produced. The availability value and the failure probability are then combined to form a repair priority, which is associated with the wind energy installation. Accordingly, more uniform operation of wind energy installations can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 8428894
Abstract: Battery testing sensors, and systems and methods for testing batteries, are disclosed. Each battery sensor has a microcontroller programmed to analyze the frequencies of noise or other undesirable signals (“background noise”) present at a battery to be tested, and to determine the duty cycle of a desired pulse width modulation (PWM) signal to be applied to the battery in view of the background noise. Duty cycles of desired PWM signals are selected such that, when applied to the battery, they will at least approximate an AC signal having a frequency that has been determined to provide optimal test results in view of the background noise. The microcontroller analyzes the battery's response from application of the PWM signal thereto. Consequently, measurement errors from background noise present at the battery are minimized. Based on the response, attributes of the battery, such as internal admittance, voltage, current, and temperature, are determined.

  • Patent number: 8401821
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program for measuring a latency associated with a transaction between logic units is described. In certain described examples, transactions take place over an on-chip interconnect, for example an interconnect forming part of a system-on-chip configuration. In certain described examples, time values obtained in response to signals indicative of transaction initiation events are added to a data queue. A transaction initiation event has an associated transaction identifier and each data queue is associated with a particular transaction identifier. The method and apparatus enable time values relating to transactions that overlap in time to be output from a data queue on receipt of a transaction completion event and thus measured.
