Abstract: An electronic apparatus includes a housing with a power supply unit that receives external electrical power and supplies it to the apparatus using a power controller. The housing includes a heater; temperature and humidity sensors; and an electronic processor that receives power from the power supply unit and controls functions of the electronic apparatus. Upon startup, the power controller receives data from the temperature and humidity sensors; processes the received temperature and humidity data to indicate a current dew point within the housing; and compares the current dew point with a current location temperature at a location within the housing. If the current location temperature is at or below the current dew point, the heater is activated to raise the temperature within the housing. If the current location temperature is above the current dew point, electrical power supplied from the power supply unit to the electronic processor.

The housing also includes a first molded element disposed at least partially within the gap and defining at least a portion of an interlock feature, and a second molded element disposed at least partially within the gap and mechanically engaging the interlock feature. The first component, the second component, and the second molded element form a portion of an exterior surface of the housing. A method of forming the housing is also disclosed.

For example, a plurality of housing cover configurations couple to housing portions of different dimensions with opposing couples and a common keystone element that, when installed, prevents separation of the opposing couplers. Removal of the keystone element provides ready access to the housing portion interior to recycle processing components, such as a secondary board having an embedded controller and charger and a battery interfaced with the secondary board.

The motherboards and batteries of this type of portable computer are standardized with or without optional components such as optical drives and/or 2.5 inch hard drives. Motherboards, batteries and other components can be mounted in the chassis of the portable computer through fixed mounting stands and/or removable mounting standoffs. The portable computer allows the I/O plates and/or the edge part to be replaced. Therefore, a motherboard with different I/Os, a motherboard and other components with different heights, and an auxiliary cooling system can be installed in the chassis. In the portable computer, mounting stands and standoffs can be shared by multiple components.
