Patent number: 5074791Abstract: A method for constructing a dental bridge using a prefabricated pontic, comprising positioning the pontic between metal retainers placed on a die formed from an impression of the abutment teeth to be restored, with the pontic having an arm with a free end extending approximate each metal retainer. The pontic and metal retainers are invested with refractory investment for forming a soldering model. A dental material composed of high- and low-fusing temperature metal particles form a porous structure defining an interproximal joint between the free end of each pontic and the corresponding retainer. A dental solder is added over the dental material and the model is heat treated to a first temperature above the melting temperature of the low-fusing temperature metal particles in the dental material. The temperature is then raised to melt the dental solder which fills the voids in the porous structure to form a solid joint between the pontic and each retainer of superior strength.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1990Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Inventors: Itzhak Shoher, Aharon E. Patent number: 5067503Abstract: The present invention includes a housing having a plurality of individual sections of dental floss. Each of the floss sections includes a pair of balls in which opposite ends of the floss section are embedded. The balls are removably joined to the housing and mountable between extensions of a tooth brush-like hand tool which is manipulated during the flossing of teeth. The tool extensions are resiliently compressible together via angled face portions of the housing to be disposed between the balls. The tool extensions subsequently extend outwardly to engage the balls to remove the floss sections from the housings for flossing. After flossing, the floss sections are removed from the tool extensions by utilizing a container that includes angled face portions for drawing the extensions toward each other whereby the floss sections are released into the container for disposal.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1990Date of Patent: November 26, 1991Inventor: Thomas W. Patent number: 5039303Abstract: A two-step orthodontic process is described in which a first weave 35 and a subsequent second weave 40 of fine dental floss are applied to a selected group of tooth crowns to effect correction of maloccluded teeth in the group. In the first weave a strand 10 of dental floss is placed in a figure "8" pattern about crowns 16 in the group. The strand 10 of material is secured in a knotless configuration by wedging the material of the strand 10 against the contact points 30 between adjacent teeth. The figure "8" pattern serves to span lingual 25 and facial surfaces 24 of the crowns in the group and to exert corrective forces against the teeth, causing them to move into prescribed desired alignment. In the second weave 40, a strand is applied with at least one span 41 of the strand across facial surfaces of the crowns 16 within the group. The span 41 is used to exert forces tending to gather and contour the crowns in a finishing technique.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1990Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Inventor: Jere Irwin
