  • Patent number: 8198972
Abstract: An electronic component includes a coil whose inductance changes in accordance with the magnitude of a current and in which abrupt reduction in the inductance due to magnetic saturation is suppressed. A stack formed by a plurality of stacked first magnetic layers includes a coil formed by coil electrodes connected to one another in the stack. A first nonmagnetic layer is arranged in such a manner as to cut across the coil. When viewed in a stacking direction, a second nonmagnetic layer is formed in a region outside of a region in which the coil is formed. The structure of the second nonmagnetic layer on the upper side of the first nonmagnetic layer in the stacking direction is different from a structure of the second magnetic layer on the lower side of the first nonmagnetic layer in the stacking direction.

  • Patent number: 6690256
Abstract: In order to improve efficiency of core rubbing operation and also to facilitate reduction in thickness of a coil device, a core-combining member includes substantially U-shaped topside and backside cover members, and a pair of core members are clamped and combined together from top and backsides by fitting the topside and backside cover members to each other. Legs of the topside cover member are provided with leg-openings formed therein while legs of the backside cover member are provided with convex parts for retaining to edges of the leg-openings so as to prevent detachment. A play clearance in the front and rear direction is provided between the convex part and an edge of the leg opening. Core rubbing is performed by relatively moving the cover members in the front and rear direction so as to integrally move the core members while maintaining the core members to be clamped. Stopper means is provided for restricting the relative displacement in the front and rear direction.

  • Patent number: 6646534
Abstract: An inductor comprises a plurality of interconnected conductive segments interwoven with a substrate. The inductance of the inductor is increased through the use of coatings and films of ferromagnetic materials such as magnetic metals, alloys, and oxides. The inductor is compatible with integrated circuit manufacturing techniques and eliminates the need in many systems and circuits for large off chip inductors. A sense and measurement coil, which is fabricated on the same substrate as the inductor, provides the capability to measure the magnetic field or flux produced by the inductor. This on chip measurement capability supplies information that permits circuit engineers to design and fabricate on chip inductors to very tight tolerances.

  • Patent number: 6188306
Abstract: Various embodiments of on chip-transformers constructed in separate metal layers in an insulator that serves as a dielectric which is formed on a substrate such as a silicon substrate. Windings with currents flowing in a first direction are constructed in a first metal layer and windings with currents flowing a second direction are constructed in a second metal layer. Windings in the first metal layer are connected to windings in the second metal layer by connectors such as vias. The transformer can be constructed in a balun layout, an autotransformer layout, a layout with the secondary separated from the primary, a layout with the secondary separated the primary and rotated with respect to an axis of the primary, a layout in which the transformer is a two stage transformer and with the first stage constructed orthogonal to the second stage, or a transformer in which the windings are constructed in a toroidal layout.

  • Patent number: 5736917
Abstract: A traverse shaft section 609 shifts in response to the rotation of a bobbin rotating section 604 with a predetermined winding pitch P1 equivalent to two to 10 times the diameter of a wire rod 520. With this shift movement of traverse shift section 609, wire rod 520 extracted from a winding nozzle section 610 shifting together with traverse shaft section 609 is wound spirally along a slant surface 530 formed by a first winding section 541 at the winding pitch P1 equivalent to two to 10 times the diameter of a wire rod 520. As a result, an advancing-side wire rod 520a and a reversing-side wire rod 520b cross over each other at opposing inclinations. Hence, it becomes possible to prevent the reversing-side wire rod 520b, when wound on the advancing-side wire rod 520a, from pulling and dislocating the advancing-side wire rod 520a from its regular winding position, thereby eliminating undesirable winding collapse.
