  • Patent number: 8332095
Abstract: A computer system and method wherein each vehicle in a jurisdiction, as a result of a regular or temporary registration process when the vehicle enters a jurisdiction temporarily at a border point, has a GPS receiver and transmitter installed and transmitting to a storage which stores for each vehicle identification code the location data and time An alarm detection system detects either loss of signal or tampering. A monitoring system also detects moving vehicles in an area, and positions reported by the monitoring means are compared with information being recorded on the computer system, and if these do not correlate, an unregistered vehicle alarm is generated. The system may be limited to vehicles entering at a border point, or new vehicles with GPS receivers and wireless transmitters installed at the time of manufacture.

  • Patent number: 8311859
Abstract: A method for determining an optimal fare for a trip comprising a departure location, an arrival location, the method comprises the following steps: sending a request for the trip wherein the request comprises a departure location, an arrival location and a corresponding fare for the trip; automatically modifying the request by searching in a predetermined database to determine a set of additional requests wherein each comprises at least one of the departure location, the arrival location or one or more additional locations which may form at least a part of the requested route wherein the predetermined database comprises said additional requests and a corresponding fare for each additional request; selecting one or more additional requests to form one or more alternative requests which include at least on of the departure location or the arrival location as the request; calculating the up to date fares for each alternative request in order to determine a resulting fare for each alternative request; comparing t

  • Patent number: 8285649
Abstract: Distributing disaster relief supplies, in one aspect, may include determining cross shipping of disaster relief supplies between points of distribution using one or more combinations of information. The information may include one or more of on-hand inventory of each point of distribution, in-transit inventory to each point of distribution, demand queue of disaster victims at each point of distribution, traveling time between supply staging area and points of distribution, traveling time between points of distribution, number of transportation vehicles available for cross shipping, minimum batch size for cross shipping, frequency of cross shipping, and point of distribution activation status, or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 8271318
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods generate a near-optimum product markdown plan for a plurality of uniform pricing levels having a required inventory sell-through target over all of the plurality of uniform pricing levels. A plurality of feasible markdown schedules are generated for the uniform pricing level, where each of the plurality of feasible markdown schedules meets all individual constraints for the uniform pricing level. All dominated feasible markdown schedules are removed for the uniform pricing level to generate one or more candidate markdown schedules for the uniform pricing level. A near-optimum product markdown plan is generated, where generating the near-optimum product markdown plans includes executing a limited exact algorithm solver for a plurality of iterations, and executing a dynamic programming solver if no product markdown plan generated by the limited exact algorithm solver is within the threshold percentage of the revenue upper bound.

  • Patent number: 8249936
Abstract: A point of sale tax reporting and automatic collection system including a smart tax register located at a retailer location. The retailer smart register processes consumer transactions and calculates the amount of sales tax due the retailer by the consumer for each transaction. Following the transaction, the consumer requests and is give a tax paid receipt. After the sales tax is paid to the retailer by the consumer, the register either immediately or periodically forwards the amount of the transaction and the amount of sales tax collected by the retailer to a computer and memory located at a remote location (e.g. state government taxing authority). The computer and memory receive and store the retailer's transaction and sales tax information, and report same to the Internal Revenue Service at least once a year.

  • Patent number: 8244648
Abstract: A system for providing distributed control to process transactions is disclosed. The system includes a service provider system having associated therewith a number of rules and a number of meta-rules, a point of service device having associated therewith a number of rules and a number of meta-rules, and a portable device having associated therewith a number of rules and a number of meta-rules. The portable device uses its associated rules to determine an outcome for a transaction. If the portable device is unable to determine the outcome for the transaction, the portable device uses its associated meta-rules to either determine whether one or more of its associated rules can be altered locally in order to determine the outcome or request the point of service device to help determine the outcome using the rules and meta-rules associated with the point of service device.
