Abstract: A method, system, and software for distributing entertainment scheduling data (e.g., television scheduling data, movie scheduling data, etc.) to end users. Entertainment scheduling data updates are entered into an editorial database and then used to rapidly update a real-time database. A subset of entertainment scheduling data from the real-time database may be transmitted from the real-time database to an end-user database of an end user. The subset may be transmitted across a communication interface (e.g., the Internet) from the real-time database to the end-user database. An intermediate destination (e.g., a File Transfer Protocol server) between the real-time database and the communication interface may be used for temporary parking of the subset.

Abstract: A broadcasting receiving apparatus includes: a broadcasting receiver for receiving downloadable parental rating definition-related data transmitted from an outside source; a data storage for storing the parental rating definition-related data; a user interface (UI) generator for generating a UI for parental lock setup; and a controller for controlling the UI generator to indicate upper item data of the parental rating definition-related data in a first axis direction of the UI and arrange lower item data corresponding to the upper item data in a second axis direction which is different from the first axis direction.

Abstract: A method for displaying digital broadcast channel information on a digital broadcasting receiver, which includes searching for an unused reserve communication path among all communication paths over which digital broadcast data is transmitted; sequentially extracting identifiers of channels other than the one currently selected from digital broadcast channel guide information and receiving video data of a program, which is being broadcast on a channel corresponding to a first extracted identifier, through the reserve communication path; processing the received video data to extract image data from the video data, extracting digital broadcast channel guide information corresponding to the image data and displaying the extracted information together with the image data; and receiving video data of a channel subsequent to the channel corresponding to the displayed image data through the reserve communication path and processing the video data.

Abstract: A data-providing system comprising a first data-transmitting section (control unit 1), a control section (control unit 3), and a second data-transmitting section (control unit 3). The first data-transmitting section transmits a continuous stream of content data that consists of multimedia content groups, each composed of program data and auxiliary data items. The control section processes data items obtained by dividing each program data, attribute data of the auxiliary data items and user profile data, thereby to automatically assemble new data. The second data-transmitting section changes the order in which to transmit the auxiliary data items inserted in a program, in accordance with the new data assembled by the control section.

Abstract: Provided are a data server, which is added to a digital broadcast emitting system to emit data broadcasting based on the Programming Metadata Communication Protocol (PMCP), a conventional international specification defined to secure inter-operability between devices of a digital broadcast emitting system; a metadata structure for securing inter-operability between devices of the conventional digital broadcast emitting system; a data stream generating device using the metadata structure; and a digital data broadcast emitting system and method thereof. The PMCP extended metadata of the present invention are formed to include channel type metadata which provide system information of a data event constituting a data broadcast program; and Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) data event metadata which provide identification information, program guide, and encapsulation information of a data event.

Abstract: A media content instance is provided for display. A plurality of first images are identified associated with locations within a first segment of a media content instance according to a first offset that is one of: a time interval and a number of frames. The first images are retrieved from the media content instance. At least some of the first images are provided for display.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, video image and audio signals are transmitted to a plurality of electronic devices each having at least one of a video image display function and an audio reproducing function. Information indicating the fact that at least one of a video image and audio has been set in a mute state is acquired from each of the electronic devices. Based on the information, a processing operation is applied to the video image and audio signals supplied to each of the electronic devices.

Abstract: Methods and Apparatuses for content protection of broadcast flagged programs for digital television devices that use CableCARDs. In one embodiment, a filter is used to prevent program content in a clear format from being exposed on the CableCARD connector. In one embodiment, broadcast flagged programs in a clear format are filtered for a CableCARD so that no high definition version of the broadcast flagged programs can be easily recorded via the circuitry of the CableCARD. The filter may degrade the broadcast flagged programs, or zero the broadcast flagged programs, or delete the broadcast flagged programs from the transport stream.

Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying Internet content associated with television programming. Content associated with a program included in the television programming is automatically displayed by a set top box. Before the broadcast of a program, listing information or EPG data is stored at the set top box. The listing information includes batch mode logical addresses or links. During the program, a viewer is notified about the link, and the content may be accessed and displayed concurrently with the program. In addition, real-time logical addresses or links, which are embedded in the program, may be extracted and the viewer is notified of these links. If both the real time and batch links are available, a determination is made according to pre-defined rules regarding which link is brought to the attention of the viewer.

Abstract: A stream reproducing device performing automatic viewing of a non-viewed period of a stream. The stream reproducing device comprises a camera a person detecting unit detecting the viewer based on the output of the camera, a viewing information generating unit generating viewing information based on the person detecting unit, and a reproduction control unit receiving supply of a stream, to control reproduction of the stream. The person detecting unit detects each of the viewers by classifying based on the output of the camera. The viewing information generating unit generates the viewing information for each of the viewers based on the detection result of each of the viewers. The viewing information generated by the viewing information generating unit is related to a time stamp of the stream to identify a non-viewed period, for which each viewer does not view the reproduced result of the stream.

A software application is included on the content processing device and is configured to receive a message from a remote computer, receive user inputs in response to the message, and update the profile based on the user inputs.

Cable services customers may pay bills or enroll in automatic bill payment via interactive television sessions. Information on pending work orders, answers to frequently asked questions and helpful service provider contact information may be obtained from a data services system through an interactive television session via a cable services network.

Abstract: A resource manager transforms the MPEG7 descriptors into an active and composite storage, processing, and presentation component in a storage area network (e.g. iSCSI). The active component can enable fast search and retrival operation directly on the logical disk blocks which maps well with the multimedia video stream and images data. It can also support content addressable search on the video and image files and play the media blocks directly. In addition, it enables a dynamic configuration of a media processing function after it is loaded in an execution environment. The data block is moved from the iSCSI interface directly into processing modules and presentation modules via decoder, buffer, and constraint control units.

Abstract: An electronic program table processing apparatus can obtain the number of receivable channels M and the standard number of channels N displayable on one screen. When EPG display data is generated, the apparatus examines whether or not the number M is smaller than the number N. If so, the apparatus generates the EPG to display the program information for M channels on one screen. If not, the apparatus generates the EPG to display the program information for N channels on one screen.

Abstract: An aircraft in-flight entertainment system includes a plurality of seat electronic boxes (SEBs) spaced throughout the aircraft. Each SEB is configurable for passing a registration token along to an adjacent SEB. Cabling connects the SEBs together in a daisy chain configuration. Registration circuitry is connected to the cabling for identifying a location of each SEB based upon passing of the registration token among the plurality of SEBs.
