  • Patent number: 8150984
Abstract: A software system for controlling the unauthorized transfer of data from a data processing system to a network is provided. A file monitor module monitors requests made by a process to access a data file within the computer system, and cross-checks the data file name against a protected file list database. If the file is listed in the protected file list database, the process name is added to a process list for the data file. A process monitor module monitors all processes contained in the process list, and if a process in the process list transfers the data file to another process, the receiving process is added to the process list. An upload monitor module searches the process list for any process that requests a network data transfer. The upload monitor module holds the transfer request for any process listed within the process list, and displays a warning message to the system user indicating that a process having had access to protected data is requesting network access to upload a data file.

  • Patent number: 8117299
Abstract: To conserve energy, components in mobile devices normally have to transition less frequently between “active” and “sleep” modes, and to sleep for longer intervals. In accordance with at least one presently preferred embodiment of the present invention, there is broadly contemplated herein an approach to reduce energy consumption by using HTTP proxies to shape incoming WLAN traffic. Proxies contemplated herein use techniques specific to the HTTP payload to compensate for any negative impact that shaping may have. Thus, there is described herein the architecture of a “PowerAware Streaming Proxy” (PASP), built on a PowerAware x-Proxy (PAxP) framework. PASP preferably uses RTSP/RTP semantics to effectively schedule media streams across the WLAN. Herein, PASP is compared with PAWP, which is a PAxP extension for web traffic, and problem areas are identified.

  • Patent number: 8055787
Abstract: A data acquisition service on a network node is disclosed for forwarding received process data to a process history database over a potentially slow and/or intermittent network connection. A store and forward functionality within the networked node receives incoming process data via a first network interface and forwards outgoing process data via a second network interface. The disclosed store and forward functionality includes an immediate transmission cache and a store and forward storage. The store control enters, in response to detecting an entry condition, an activated mode wherein incoming process data is directed to the store and forward storage. A read control forwards outgoing process data to the second network interface from the immediate transmission cache and store and forward storage. The read control includes at least a first configurable parameter that constrains a rate at which data retrieved from the store and forward storage is forwarded via the second network interface.

  • Patent number: 8046413
Abstract: Synchronized devices comprising a distributed system attempt to agree on a compatible sequence of commands to execute. Each device in the distributed system may act as a proposer, acceptor, or a learner. Each proposer proposes a command for each device to execute. The acceptors either accept or reject the proposed commands. The learners keep track of the proposed commands and determine, using a transactional substrate, whether the acceptors have a accepted sequences of commands that commute with respect to one another. Once the learners have determined that a quorum of acceptors have accepted sequences of commands that commute with respect to one another the accepted commands are executed by each device in the distributed system.

  • Patent number: 8032631
Abstract: Terminals are connected to an IM server and a registration Web server through a network. The terminals allow an information storage device to store personal information through the registration Web server. Also, the IM server allows the information storage device to store buddy lists of the terminals, the buddy lists showing relationship among the terminals. When one of the terminals requests obtaining personal information of the user of another terminal, the IM server determines the disclosure level of the requesting terminal based on the buddy list, selects items to be provided from personal information based on the disclosure level, and transmits the selected items to the terminal which has requested the personal information. The present invention can be applied to an IM system.

  • Patent number: 7240115
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for programmatically allocating memory among competing services in a distributed computing environment. Characteristics of web request streams and formulas for cache hit rates and client response times are used to create an objective function for memory allocation, such that maximum benefit can be realized from the memory allocations. When a particular service is allocated more memory, it can store more of its objects in cache, which improves client response time. Optionally, information from service level agreements may be used as input to the memory allocation computations.

  • Patent number: 7167911
Abstract: In a data transmission a system controller generates a deactivation signal when a data stream between a subscriber transceiver and an exchange transceiver has no payload in either direction. Exchange-end transmission coefficients are then stored by an exchange memory. The deactivation signal is transmitted back to the subscriber-end transceiver, which then stores subscriber-end coefficients in a subscriber memory. The subscriber transceiver then sends the deactivation signal back to the exchange transceiver, which then stops data transmission. In response to detecting the stopping of data transmission, the subscriber-end transceiver likewise stops data transmission. Both transceivers are then placed in a stand-by state.
