  • Patent number: 4684000
Abstract: A power transmission disconnect device with an operational interlock wherein a pair of clutch members are selectively engageable to transmit power from an input gear to an output shaft. Remotely operable means acts through a throwout sleeve to position a disconnect shaft to have the clutch members either engaged or disengaged. An operational interlock responsive to the speed of an input gear to the disconnect device prevents actuation of the clutch to either engaged or disengaged position when said speed is above a predetermined speed. Sensors are associated with the structure to assist in proper operation of the disconnect device.

  • Patent number: 4660703
Abstract: The present invention discloses both a safety sensing system and a method of providing safety protection for presses or like industrial machines having a reciprocally movable operating head, ram, tool or beam. The basis of the system is the provision of a first beam (or a plurality of first beams) each of which is placed across and in front of the intended direction of travel of the pressing tool or blade. A second beam is arranged in the intended direction of travel and is broken by the tool or blade when the latter has reached a predetermined minimum height above a workpiece. A control system is provided which, during the operating stroke of the blade retracts the blade if any one or more of the first beam(s) is or are broken but the second beam is not broken. However, once the second beam is broken, the stroke of the blade is completed even if the first beam(s) is or are broken, for example, by folding of a pressed workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4651857
Abstract: A clutch disk for a motor vehicle clutch comprises a clutch lining carrier with a cover plate facing a first side face of the hub disk. In view of frictional damping of angular movement of the clutch lining carrier with respect to a hub carrying the hub disk a pressure plate is provided axially between the cover plate and the first side face of the hub disk. A friction ring is provided axially between the pressure plate and the side face. Leaf springs are provided axially between the cover plate and the pressure plate. These leaf springs generate an axial pressure between the pressure plate and the side face and connect the pressure plate for common angular movement with the cover plate.

  • Patent number: 4650051
Abstract: A clutch for a motor vehicle is provided in which the reaction plate assembly is made of two separate parts fixed to one another by fastening means, namely a transverse supporting bracket, by means of which it can be fixed to the input shaft, and a reaction element with which the associated friction disc can interact. The reaction plate element and the supporting bracket bear axially on one another by means of local seats providing circumferentially between them recesses which open freely outwards radially, the cover being fixed to the said reaction plate element. This arrangement provides good ventilation in the space between the supporting bracket and the reaction plate element. Furthermore the components between which the friction disc is interposed have similar thermal characteristics and this is favorable to balanced working conditions of the said friction disc on the respective faces.

  • Patent number: 4646584
Abstract: A vehicular transmission having multiple gear trains including an ultra-low speed for all-wheel operation. A gear train selecting and shifting mechanism includes a select shaft and a shift shaft rotatably mounted perpendicular to each other. A shift piece slidably mounted on another shaft for engaging the shift forks for establishing the selected gear train. An arm is mounted on the select shaft for pivoting thereby and engages the shift piece for selecting the desired shift fork. Another arm is mounted on the shift shaft for pivoting thereby and engages the shift piece for causing shifting of the gear trains. Push-pull wires are provided from the driver's position for causing rotation of the select and shift shafts through external levers. An interlock plate prevents selection of the shift fork for the ultra-low speed unless a transfer gear clutch is engaged for all-wheel vehicle operation.

  • Patent number: 4645048
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a machine such as a machine tool or robot includes a rotatable shaft, e.g. a lead screw or spindle, drivingly connected with a movable element, e.g. a worktable or tool support, in the machine, a drive shaft for rotation by a motor and a coupling unit, e.g. clutch or gear transmission, for drivingly connecting the drive shaft with the rotatable shaft to move the movable element in a predetermined form of movement under a variable load in the machine. Encoders are provided in a rotation-sensing relationship with the drive shaft and the rotatable shaft, respectively, to feed two trains of rotation-responsive pulses into a differential counter which provides a difference in angle of rotation signal representing an instantaneous torque produced at the drive coupling unit between the drive and rotatable shafts.

  • Patent number: 4641734
Abstract: In a synchronizing mechanism for clutches, there are provided between the gear shift sleeve and the synchronizing ring (14,15) stop bodies in the form of dogs (25, 26) which are in contact with the gear shift sleeve (between the teeth 34) in the circumferential direction by form-locking engagement and in the axial direction through spring-loaded stop balls (21) and in the neutral position are spaced from the synchronizing ring by a distance substantially equal to the axial extension of the check faces (32, 33) between the gear shift sleeve and the synchronizing ring. In this manner it is ensured that during shifting the axial force previously exerted through the check faces (32, 33) on the synchronizing ring (for instance 15) is replaced by an axial force which is transmitted by the dog and which prevents the synchronizing ring from coming off the countercone before the form-locking connection between the gear shift sleeve and the clutch body is established.

  • Patent number: 4640401
Abstract: A hydraulic control circuit controls flow of cooling or lube fluid to a pair of wet clutches, such as a traction clutch and a PTO clutch of an agricultural tractor. The control circuit intermittently and temporarily increases the lube flow as a function of the engagement states of the clutches. The control circuit includes a dual pilot-operated valve wherein one pilot is larger and receives clutch operating pressure. The smaller pilot receives system pressure via a check valve and fluid exits from the smaller pilot via a fluid restrictor.

  • Patent number: 4638684
Abstract: The action of a primary damping device between two coaxial parts of a flywheel which is driven by the crankshaft of the engine in a motor vehicle and transmits torque to the input shaft of the change-speed transmission is influenced by a blocking device, by a friction generating device or by an auxiliary damping device in such a way that the resistance which the primary damping device offers to rotation of the two parts relative to each other decreases with increasing RPM of the engine. The blocking device, the friction generating device and the auxiliary damping device can be operated by centrifugal force in such a way that the two parts of the flywheel are positively or frictionally coupled to each other when the RPM of the engine is at or below the idling RPM.

  • Patent number: 4637503
Abstract: A control device to remotely engage and disengage a clutch having a manually-operable lever, consisting of a link pivoted to the lever and to a sector plate. The latter is pivotally mounted on a base and is adapted for movement with a swing arm mounted on the same pivot and extending radially of the sector plate. The swing arm carries a slidable dog releasably engaged with the sector plate and is moved by a power-operated lifter. The sector plate is connected to the link and is adapted to move between a first declutched position, and a second clutched position, and a final operative position intermediate the two first-named positions, nearer the second position, thereby preventing undue stress on the bearings of the clutch actuation assembly when the clutch is operative.

  • Patent number: 4637504
Abstract: A combination range and master clutch assembly includes a separator plate, at least one clutch, a fluid actuated main piston for engaging each clutch, and at least one fluid actuated accelerator piston. The separator plate and main piston define first and second main chambers in communication with each other. The main piston and each accelerator piston define an accelerator chamber. Sliding of each accelerator piston blocks communication between the main chambers. The assembly is controlled by providing fluid at an operating pressure which may be modulated between low and high pressures. Fluid is selectively delivered to an accelerator chamber at the operating pressure when it is below a threshold pressure level, and to both the accelerator chamber and its associated main chamber at the operating pressure when it is above the threshold pressure level.
