  • Patent number: 7099623
Abstract: A Wireless Communication Device (WCD) includes multiple fingers that track one or more tracked transponder beams. Each tracked beam is from a respective tracked transponder. The WCD determines a tracked-beam searcher energy for each of the tracked beams, and an untracked-beam searcher energy for each of one or more untracked beams from each of the tracked transponders. The WCD attempts to determine a preferred one of the untracked beams that should become a tracked beam. This determination is made based on the tracked-beam and the untracked-beam searcher energies. The WCD assigns, or alternatively, reassigns, a finger to the preferred untracked beam when the attempt to determine a preferred untracked beam is successful. The transponders may be satellites or base stations.

  • Patent number: 6961582
Abstract: A transmission power control method for a CDMA communication system which performs communication between a basestation and a plurality of mobile stations; comprising the steps of: transmitting uplink power from the plurality of the mobile stations to the basestation; measuring and receiving the uplink power transmitted from each of the plurality of mobile stations with different signal-to-interference (SIR) requirement thresholds at the basestation; taking a algorithm to converge the transmitted uplink power from each of the plurality of mobile stations; and calculating the uplink power transmitted from each of the plurality of mobile stations by a power convergence factor. The transmission power control method only needs the local measurements at the basestation and can meet different SIR requirements of mobile stations based on fair principle. Additionally, the transmission power control method of the present invention can not only converge fast, but also keep the transmitted power in a reasonable range.

  • Patent number: 6901267
Abstract: Improvement is afforded in the recognition of wide-band data transmitted in the form of a data sequence to a network element of an analog, cellular network, notably a mobile radio set or a base station. The sequence includes a starting synchronization (DOT1), a word synchronization (WS), a data word (REP1) and number of repeats of a synchronization (DOT), a word synchronization (WS) and the data word (REP 1-REP 11). The network element recognizes, from received sequences, that a transmission of a sequence occurs when a starting synchronization (DOT 1) has been recognized, or alternatively when one of the further synchronizations (DOT) that is succeeded by a correct word synchronization (WS) has been recognized, and evaluates the data words (REP 1-REP 11) received each time subsequent to a recognized starting synchronization (DOT 1) that is succeeded by a word synchronization (WS), or received subsequent to a recognized further synchronization (DOT) that is succeeded by a correct word synchronization (WS).

  • Patent number: 6850770
Abstract: A first radio link set (RLS) indicator parameter is added to a radio link addition request message on Iub and on Iur. As in the case of radio link setup, the first RLS indicator IE used in the radio link addition request message indicates if the added RL is to be considered part of the first RLS established toward this UE in that frequency. If the first RLS indicator IE is set to “first RLS”, which means interfrequency handover, the Node B shall use a TPC pattern of (n×01)+1 in the downlink of the added RL and all RLs which are part of the same RLS, until UL synchronization is achieved on the Uu. The parameter n is set equal to the value received in the DL TPC pattern 01 count IE in the cell setup procedure. The TPC pattern is continuously repeated, but restarted at the beginning of every frame with Connection Frame Number (CFN) mod 4=0. For all other RLs, the Node B uses a TPC pattern of all ones in the downlink until uplink synchronization is achieved on the Uu.

  • Patent number: 6792294
Abstract: It is constructed so that combinations of display colors or lighting patterns can be set from the outside by incoming notification means by light of a portable telephone apparatus. That is, incoming notification pattern data by a change in lighting colors and data of the tempo are stored in RAM 3, and data from the RAM 3 is held in an FIFO 8 and is outputted every tempo according to a read signal from an FIFO read signal generator 9, and also by generating an interruption at the time when a predetermined amount of data is outputted, a CPU 1 writes subsequent data from the RAM 3 to the FIFO 8 according to the interruption. Then, data read from the FIFO 8 is once held in an output port register 5 and an LED driver 6 independently drives plural LEDs according to data outputted from the output port register 5. In this case, it is constructed so that the data from the RAM 3 can be set from the outside.

  • Patent number: 6757272
Abstract: There are provided a channel estimation unit for achieving highly accurate channel estimation, a CDMA receiver and a CDMA transceiver with the channel estimation unit. Channel estimates of data symbols are obtained from pilot symbols in a combined symbol sequence which has a plurality of slots and includes the data symbols and the pilot symbols. First, the pilot symbols in the combined symbol sequence are located. Second, pilot blocks are generated by extracting the pilot symbols from two or more slots in the combined symbol sequence. Third, channel estimates of the data symbols are obtained by calculating a weighted sum of averages of the pilot symbols in the individual pilot blocks. The weighted sum is carried out using appropriate weighting factors for individual data symbols in each slot. This enables highly accurate channel estimation.

  • Patent number: 6650907
Abstract: In order to control the transmitting power provided for point-to-multipoint telecommunications links in a telecommunications system with wireless telecommunication and uncoordinated unlicensed system operation, without significant restriction of the transmitting range, use is made of the fact that the maximum number of mobile stations (MS1 . . . MSn) registered in a base station (BS1) is known. Thus, the base station knows at any time how many and which mobile stations are registered. If all mobile stations are registered (NACT=NSCHED), the base station can match the transmitting power to the mobile station received as the “weakest one”. In other cases, if not all mobile stations are registered (NACT≠NSCHED), the base station will alternately transmit with the maximum transmitting.

  • Patent number: 6515981
Abstract: A system and method for encoding and transmitting data with a spread-spectrum packet-switched system. Data to be transmitted by a packet transmitter are encoded for privacy and to restrict intelligent receipt of the data to the intended recipient. The encoded data is demultiplexed into sub-data-sequence signals which are spread-spectrum processed and then combined as a multichannel spread-spectrum signal. The multichannel spread-spectrum signal is concatenated with a header to output a packet-spread-spectrum signal which is transmitted over radio waves to a packet receiver. The packet receiver obtains timing for the multichannel spread-spectrum signal from the header. The multichannel spread-spectrum signal is then despread and multiplexed as received-encoded data. The received-encoded data is decoded by the intended recipient and stored in a receiver memory for output.

  • Patent number: 6459884
Abstract: The characteristics of a radio channel is estimated over which pilot signals are transmitted consecutively together with TPC signals in the cdma2000 system. From the pilot signals demodulated into baseband signals, obtained are correlated values of a field of the pilot signals preceding the TPC field and of the TPC signals with the spread spectrum codes. Both of the correlated values are operated to determine data represented by the TPC signals. The data thus determined are removed from the TPC signals to restore the pilot signals which would have appeared unless multiplied with the spread spectrum codes in the TPC bit field. The characteristics of the radio channel are estimated from the pilot signals including the TPC bit field from which the data determined have been removed.

  • Patent number: 6449467
Abstract: Power control of output RF signals in a mobile radio communication network is described. A base transceiver has a booster module (12) attached for increasing the power of the output RF signals. A power levelling loop controls the transmission power of the unboosted transceiver. When a booster module (12) is attached, the loop is extendible to control the power of the boosted RF signal output from the booster module. A node (52, 53) connects the amplifier circuit (4) of the transceiver and booster module (12). The node allows an RF signal to be supplied from the amplifier circuit (4) to the booster module (12) for transmission. The node (52, 53) also forms part of the extended power control loop and allows the detected level of the boosted signal to be returned to the transceiver.
