  • Patent number: 5078225
Abstract: A system having a motor operatively connected to a steering system for reducing the steering effect is provided with a steering torque sensor for detecting steering torque in the steering system during a steering operation, an alternator output level sensor for detecting the output level of an engine driven alternator, and an ignition key switch sensor. In response to the output signal of the steering torque sensor, an assist signal is provided. In response to the output level of the alternator output level sensor and the position of the ignition key switch, an engine stall condition is detected. When engine stall occurs, the output torque of the motor is controlled in response to the assist signal for a predetermined period.

  • Patent number: 5012883
Abstract: An air intake structure for a motorcycle includes a pair of hollow laterally spaced frames extending from a headpipe to a rear portion of the motorcycle, a hollow cross member connecting the frames together at an intermediate portion thereof, wherein the hollow interior of the cross member communicates with the hollow interiors of the frames. Intake openings are provided at a front portion of the frames for feeding air into the frames, while an exhaust opening is formed on the bottom of the cross member for exhausting air downward to the engine air intakes. A fuel tank cover is provided to cover a flexible fuel tank disposed between the laterally spaced hollow frames. The fuel tank cover includes a hollow fairing stay formed integrally therewith for supporting a motorcycle fairing, wherein the hollow fairing stay forms an air duct for directing air from an air inlet in the fairing to the intake openings of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4955630
Abstract: Steering mechanism for trailer wheels is provided with a slide having a tongue selectively engaged with and retracted from the fifth wheel of a tractor. When the tongue is engaged with the fifth wheel, any pivoting of the fifth wheel about the kingpin connection between the tractor and trailer, as when the tractor is steered from a straight ahead position relative to the trailer, causes the tongue to swing a link pivoted on the slide mechanism under the trailer. This swinging of the link drives a flexible cable to control a valve of a power steering system for the trailer rear wheels. The components are mounted under the floor of the trailer and a cable driven winch with a crank or power drive at the side of the trailer advances and retracts the slide to move the tongue into and out of engagement with the tractor fifth wheel. Magnets are mounted in the tongue and a torsion spring is provided in the winch mechanism to maintain tight contact between the tongue and fifth wheel.
