  • Patent number: 8553557
Abstract: A device receives a first message from a first network element of a network grid. The device determines, based on the first message, whether a threshold is reached for the first network element of the network grid. The device further reprograms, when the threshold is reached, a second network element of the network grid to function in same first role as the first network element. Prior to the reprogramming of the second network element, the second network element functions in a second role that is different from the first role. The device also shifts processing from the first network element to the second network element.

  • Patent number: 8537762
Abstract: A system and method for configuring a data communication between a terminal computing device and a communication network, wherein the terminal computing device connects to the communication network via a mobile device is tethered to a terminal computing device and acts as a wireless modem. A second handshake operation between the computing device and mobile device occurs after a handshake operation between the mobile device and network occurs to negotiate a variety of communication protocol parameters controlling the data communication. The variety of communication protocol parameters negotiated between the mobile device and network are used in the negotiation of communication protocol parameters during the second handshake operation between the computing device and mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8494005
Abstract: A technique for adjusting a phase relationship among modulation symbols is disclosed. A method embodiment of this technique comprises the steps of applying to a sequence of modulation symbols a phase ramp that continuously increases over the duration of the symbol sequence, and applying a compensation phase to each modulation symbol to introduce a phase offset between two subsequent modulation symbols. The joint application of the phase ramp and the compensation phase can be used to establish a saw tooth-like phase characteristic over the sequence of modulation symbols. In one embodiment, the phase ramp is applied in the context of impressing a frequency shift on the modulation symbols.

  • Patent number: 8488443
Abstract: A method of handling a radio link failure in a multiple-carrier system performed by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method includes transmitting, to a base station (BS), a first message indicating a first radio link problem (RLP) in a first carrier when the first RLP is detected, transmitting, to the BS, a second message indicating a second RLP in a second carrier when the second RLP is detected, and transmitting, to the BS, a final message requesting a connection re-establishment with the BS. By using a plurality of different timers on CCs configured for one UE, the meaning of RLF in a multiple-carrier system for triggering radio connection re-establishment procedure is clarified and defined in detail.

  • Patent number: 8472352
Abstract: An application server invocated terminating service is enabled in an IMS based communication network. A request-to-establish message is received by an application server in a terminating part of the network, initiated by a calling party associated to an originating part of the network. The request-to-establish message is supplemented with information that the terminating service is desired to a called party associated to the terminating part, before being transmitted to an access node to which the called party is associated. A called terminal used by the called party is then notified that the terminating service is applicable by the access node, before the application server is confirmed that the called terminal has been notified. Supplementing the request-to-establish message in this way, enables parties communicating over an IMS based network to use the terminating service, regardless of whether they are directly associated to the network or via a non-IMS based communications network.

  • Patent number: 8473547
Abstract: Methods and structure for improved client/server program communication by transmitting dynamically maintained service capabilities information from the server program to the client program. The client program generates a service request based on the received service capabilities information. Since the service capabilities information is retrieved from the server program and is dynamically maintained by the server program, the client program need not be updated when available services from the server program are modified. In one exemplary embodiment, the client program may be a print application client program and the server program may be a print server program. The print client program retrieves the current printer device capabilities (service capabilities information) and generates a print job ticket (service request) based on the retrieved, dynamically maintained printer device capability information.

  • Patent number: 8427983
Abstract: Techniques are described for permitting uplink feedback for downlink transmission over downlink-only RF carriers to occur using uplink control channels belonging to another fully-configured RF carrier herein known as a primary carrier. Uplink feedback channels can be allocated for the downlink-only RF carriers in the uplink control regions of a fully-configured RF carrier immediately following the uplink control channels for the primary carrier are allocated. The uplink feedback channels for downlink-only RF carriers can be allocated based on global or local index number of each downlink-only RF carrier in sequential order based on ascending or descending sorting of the index numbers.

  • Patent number: 8428023
Abstract: A method and apparatus distributes video packets over multiple bearers for providing unequal packet loss protection. The method includes receiving a plurality of packets that collectively includes video data from a group of pictures comprising a sequence of video frames, wherein the sequence includes one Intra frame at the beginning of the group of pictures followed by a plurality of Predictive frames. For each packet, the packet processing function: determines the corresponding frame that includes the video data; applies a bearer selection process to select one of multiple bearers for transporting the packet over an access network, wherein each bearer has a different quality of service level which influences the probability of the transported packets being dropped, wherein the bearer selection process is based on the position of the frame within the sequence of frames; and provides, to an access network entity, an indication of the selected bearer.

  • Patent number: 8396034
Abstract: A method of determining a cell identity in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The present invention includes the steps of obtaining a segment ID and a sequence index from an SA-preamble (secondary advanced preamble) sequence received from a base station and determining the cell identity using the segment ID and the sequence index. In this case, the cell identity corresponds to one SA-preamble sequence and a cell identity adjacent to the cell identity corresponds to an SA-preamble sequence having a complex conjugate relation of the one SA-preamble sequence.
