  • Patent number: 6639590
Abstract: The present invention permits quick removal of charge stored in a liquid crystal layer, without depending upon characteristics of individual devices. This is achieved by providing a detector that detects the turning-off of a power supply, and a connection device that, upon detection of the turning-off of the power supply by the detector, connects to a predetermined line either or both of scanning lines to which scanning signals are supplied and data lines to which data signals are supplied, and connecting the predetermined line to a constant potential.

  • Patent number: 6429842
Abstract: A TFT-LCD comprising: a plurality of data lines being spaced with each other; a plurality of gate lines being spaced with each other and being crossed with the gate lines; and a plurality of TFTs; wherein TFTs of the plurality of TFTs which are connected to odd data lines of the plurality of data lines, are disposed in the upside of the gate lines and the TFTs of the plurality of TFTs which are connected to the even data lines of the plurality of data lines, are disposed on the downside of the gate lines, thereby being disposed with a zig-zag form; and wherein data signals having different polarities are respectively applied to the data lines corresponding to the odd gate lines of the plurality of gate lines and to the data lines corresponding to the even gate lines of the plurality of gate lines, thereby applying the data signals having different polarities between adjacent two pixels.

  • Patent number: 6417828
Abstract: An active matrix-type liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of substrates, a chiral smectic liquid crystal composition disposed between the pair of substrates so as to form a plurality of pixels, and a plurality of active elements provided to the pixels, respectively, for driving the liquid crystal device in a matrix driving scheme. The chiral smectic liquid crystal composition may preferably comprise at least two specific fluorine-containing mesomorphic compounds and assume two stable states between which a threshold voltage for switching from one of the two stable states to the other stable state is different from a threshold voltage for switching from the other stable state to said one of the two stable states and liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal composition change their alignment states so as to provide a halftone state depending on a voltage applied to the chiral smectic liquid crystal.

  • Patent number: 6297785
Abstract: Method and circuit arrangement for independent operation of a plurality of visual display units (210-216) from one screen control unit (10), which can emit clock signals and a number of character-related or pixel-related video data signals corresponding to the line and column resolution of a two-dimensional rectangular raster image which is to be displayed on a visual display unit. Rectangular subareas of a full screen format are in this case displayed on one of the visual display units (210-216).

  • Patent number: 6297836
Abstract: Various commands and data are input to an image display device via an input block. Part or whole of basic image data formed of a dot matrix is stored in a basic image data storage device of the image display device. A portion of the basic image data in a display range is converted to display image data to display the display image data on the display screen, in response to a corresponding one of the various commands input by the input. From the input block, there are input a start command for starting an automatic scroll process for automatically continuously shifting the display range in a scrolling manner in a predetermined one of upward, downward, leftward and rightward directions on the basic image data, and a display range shift command for shifting, at a time point before a start of the automatic scroll process or during the automatic scroll process, the display range set at the time point, selectively in the upward, downward, leftward and rightward directions.

  • Patent number: 6266041
Abstract: An active matrix drive circuit includes a clock element arranged so as to generate a clock signal CK; a shift register including a chain of control shift elements having respective outputs; and a series of driver stages coupled to said outputs and controllable by control signals for sampling an input signal and for supplying the sampled signals to a corresponding series of lines. Each of the driver stages is associated with a respective one of the control shift elements and is locally controlled by a plurality of different control signals derived from signals generated by said one control shift element and/or at least one local control shift element in the vicinity of said one control shift element in the shift register in response to clocking of the shift register by the clock signal CK.

  • Patent number: 5907314
Abstract: A liquid-crystal display apparatus includes a layer of liquid crystal. A matrix array is composed of scanning electrodes and signal electrodes. The scanning electrodes extend along a matrix row direction. The signal electrodes extend along a matrix column direction. Switching circuit elements are located at respective places where the scanning electrodes intersect with the signal electrodes. Pixel electrodes connected to the switching circuit elements are operative for controlling portions of the liquid-crystal layer respectively. A first device is operative for driving the scanning electrodes. A second device is operative for delaying a first video signal into a second video signal. A third device is operative for alternately selecting one out of the first video signal and the second video signal to generate a third video signal in response to the first video signal and the second video signal.
