  • Patent number: 6040850
Abstract: A method for interfacing between a transmitter and receiver of a digital broadcasting system using a satellite, includes the steps of: searching a program association table of the receiver for a corresponding program, and detecting a receiver control message packet number; detecting a receiver control message through the detected packet number; detecting public switched telephone network and public switched data network numbers through the receiver control message; searching for a network information table of the receiver and then detecting an event information table packet number at a time zone corresponding to an event information table construction descriptor, in order to search for a corresponding event information table; inserting a VCR reserved recording descriptor into the event information table to impose an identification number on a corresponding program, thereby performing a reserved recording; inserting a price information descriptor table into the event information table to transmit program price

  • Patent number: 6011591
Abstract: The field-display means of a conventional television set are used, to which the odd lines of a VGA image are transmitted during one field and the even lines during the next field, thereby providing for the use of a television set as a computer monitor.

  • Patent number: 5995133
Abstract: A received television program is blocked out when a rating of the program is not within a scope of a preset rating. The preset rating code can be easily changed with a macro function key. A function of the macro function key is registered, and a rating code corresponding to the registered macro function key is read out. The read-out rating code is compared with a preset rating code. If the read-out rating code is within the scope of the preset rating code, the preset rating code is replaced with the read-out rating code. Otherwise, a user is requested to input user's identification. When the user inputs the user's identification, this user's identification is compared with a registered identification. If the inputted user's identification is identical to the registered identification, the preset rating code is replaced with the read-out rating code. The macro function key can give the user convenience in setting a blocking-out rating code.

  • Patent number: 5959691
Abstract: A digital display apparatus capable of adjusting the vertical size of the display image includes a PLL circuit and a frequency divider. The output voltage level of an active low-pass filter in the PLL circuit is changed if the power voltage supplied to the filter is varied, resulting in the frequency variation of the dot clock signal even though there is no variation in the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing signal. Thus, the adjustment of the vertical size of the display image is easily achieved by controlling a voltage supplied to the low-pass filter in the PLL circuit.

  • Patent number: 5953073
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for relating indexing information associated with at least two indexing schemes to facilitate the play-back of user-specified digital video data. The method includes the steps of scanning a stream of digital video data for indexing information related to at least two indexing schemes prior to being stored in a video server, and generating a mapping table in order to convert indexing information associated with one of the at least two indexing schemes to corresponding indexing information associated with another one of the at least two indexing schemes. The indexing information identifies discrete portions of said stream of digital video data so that those portions can be accessed at a later time. The mapping table may be stored in a database.

  • Patent number: 5923366
Abstract: A system for performing beam convergence in video displays. The system is implemented through one or more convergence sensors, which are exposed to two distinct convergence test patterns. The first test pattern partially overlaps with one or more of the sensors to define a first covered area for each overlapped sensor, the portion of each sensor that is not overlapped defining a first uncovered area. The second test pattern overlaps the entirety of the first uncovered area for each sensor, the portion of each sensor that is not overlapped, therefore being the first covered area for each sensor. The output of the sensors when exposed to the first test pattern and the output of the sensors when exposed to the second test pattern are used to perform beam convergence calculations. The test patterns are selected in such a manner as to reduce the dynamic range requirement for the sensor output A/D converter(s).

  • Patent number: 5912711
Abstract: An apparatus for converting and scaling non-interlaced VGA signal to interlaced TV signal suitable to be displayed on a TV video screen is disclosed. The apparatus includes an analog to digital converter, a vertical scaling down device, a vertical scaling up device, a horizontal scaling down device, a horizontal scaling up device, a memory unit, a memory controller, and a digital to analog converter. The apparatus is capable of scaling the non-interlaced VGA signal to interlaced TV signal with any desired scaling size both in horizontal direction and in vertical direction to meet the requirement of displaying operation of the TV screen.
