The method can include generating and submitting for the overlay content segment ID in the record database, determining it is not stored in an entry, sending the overlay content segment to the electronic device, and receiving a notification from the electronic device.

Abstract: Machine-learning based multi-step engagement strategy generation and visualization is described. Rather than rely heavily on human involvement to create delivery strategies, the described learning-based engagement system generates multi-step engagement strategies by leveraging machine-learning models trained using data describing historical user interactions with content delivered in connection with historical campaigns. Initially, the learning-based engagement system obtains data describing an entry condition and an exit condition for a campaign. Based on the entry and exit condition, the learning-based engagement system utilizes the machine-learning models to generate a multi-step engagement strategy, which describes a sequence of content deliveries that are to be served to a particular client device user (or segment of client device users).

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing user accommodations are described. An exemplary system may include an electronic device configured to receive audiovisual content and/or user inputs. The electronic device may further include one or more processors as well as memory, which when executed by the one or more processors, cause them to perform one or more locating functions to locate one or more users of the electronic device, and determine a level of interaction for the one or more users based at least in part on the location. The one or more processors may further be caused to perform at least one accommodation function based at least in part on the determined level of interaction for the one or more users or location of the one or more users.

Abstract: A computer system, method, and computer-readable product for automatically generating a hierarchy of concepts described in a video using semantic concept matching that assists persons in searching for specific types of content within videos. A video segment is obtained, with the segment having a distinct running time with discrete information related to one or more topics within its content. The discrete information of the video segment is then parsed out and related to a predetermined relevant topic, and then one or more attributes for weighting each discrete information relevant topic within the video segment are determined. A hierarchy of concepts of the video segments is then created, based upon, at least, the weighting of the information topic within the running time of the video segment based upon the presence of the one or more attributes. Other information related to the video segment can also be used to modify the hierarchy.

Abstract: A playout system for providing playout of fragmented video content is provided. The system includes a non-transitory data store and a processor. The processor is configured to playout content for video origination using a fragmented format. The processor can receive a playlist and generate a plurality of video fragments from source content. A transcoder can process video fragments based on one or more program scheduling requirements from the playlist to generate new video fragments. A manifest is updated to reference the new video fragments. The process can output a video stream based on the new video fragments.

Abstract: The system and methods described herein determine whether to override commands to modify content presentation in a multi-user content consumption environment. A media guidance application detects a first and second user consuming content. Upon receiving a command from the first user to modify the presentation of the content, the media guidance application retrieves a user profile of the second user and compares attributes in the user profile to metadata for the segment of the content. Based on the comparison, the media guidance application determines whether to override the command, for example based on a predicted interest level or importance level determined by the comparison. In response to determining to override the command, the media guidance application refrains from executing the command by canceling or delaying the command and generates a notification message to the user with a reason why the command was overridden.

Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating discovery of fresh content in a grid guide are described herein. The system generates for display a grid guide with a first set of content identifiers populating the grid guide. The system receives an input to shift the grid guide and, in response, identifies a second set of content identifiers that would populate the grid guide following the shift. The system determines duplicative content identifiers between the first and second sets of content identifiers. The system then removes the duplicative content identifiers or highlights the non-duplicative content identifiers in order to emphasize fresh content in the grid guide. The system may additionally add identifiers to the content identifiers to indicate recorded or previously watched content and may collapse the grid guide if there are blank rows or columns. These methods and systems provide the user with easier access to fresh content in the grid guide.

Abstract: Networking methods and systems are provided for a transportation vehicle, e.g. an aircraft. One method includes registering with a switching device, multicast network addresses assigned to each of a plurality of regions of an aircraft, each region including a plurality of seat devices configured to store media files of a media library of an in-flight entertainment system, the media files assigned to one of a plurality of tiers. A range of the multicast network addresses are reserved for each tier and the multicast network addresses are distributed across different regions of the aircraft, based on where media files are intended to be stored. Based on registered multicast network addresses, the switching device selectively forwards specific media files associated with specific multicast network addresses for storage at one or more seat devices located within a region associated with the specific multicast network address.

Efficient IP delivery of video advertisements is supported to service provider managed networks of consumer devices. Real-time targeted advertisements to all IP connected devices and managed consumer devices are supported based on targeting criteria.

In response to the first request, the content access device transmits a second request to the media content source to begin receiving the second version. After the transmitting of the second request, the content access device receives the second version for display beginning at a point in the second version related to a point in the first version last received from the media content source.

Abstract: Various arrangements for providing a multichannel viewing event are presented. A definition of the multichannel viewing event may be transmitted to multiple television receivers. A television receiver may, as part of an electronic programming guide, provide a single-selection option to activate the multichannel viewing event based on the definition. In response to receiving user input that selects the single-selection option, the definition of the multichannel viewing event is accessed. The television receiver may output the television channels defined in the definition of the multichannel viewing event. A video stream that includes live feeds of multiple television channels may then be output to a display device for simultaneous presentation.

Abstract: A live broadcast is depicted, in this case a golf tournament. The broadcast is depicted on a television screen of a user, substantially in real time. In a television studio, which may be close to the site of the live broadcast, or may be remote therefrom, a commentator or pundit records segments of video analysis. The video image is sent to a server. The video clip of the commentator is then downloadable by the user using a device such as a mobile phone or tablet. The user can then view the additional content—the video segment of the commentator—on his device. Using the techniques of positioning and anchoring as described herein, the user can enjoy the video segment as though the commentator were present in the room, by viewing the room through a camera of the device.
