  • Patent number: 10117160
Abstract: When connected to an alternate network, a user device may search for a preferred network when the user device is actively transmitting traffic via the alternate network. As such, the user device may search for, and potentially locate, the preferred network faster than when the user device waits to search for the preferred network after becoming idle. While active, the user device may search for the preferred network for a relatively short duration, in order to limit the amount of time that data flow transmission is interrupted when searching for the preferred network. The user device may search for the preferred network based on a list of search parameters. The list of search parameters may be prioritized differently based on whether the user device is active or idle, and may be based on a quantity of times that the user device has searched for the preferred network.

  • Patent number: 10098176
Abstract: A mobile communications system according to an aspect of the present invention includes a control apparatus (100) arranged in a radio access network (20) and a policy supply system (200) arranged in a core network (10). The policy supply system (200) is configured to supply the control apparatus (100) with a first control policy used in control related to state transition of a mobile terminal (300) between a CONNECTED state and an IDLE state. The control apparatus (100) is configured to perform the control related to the state transition between the CONNECTED state and the IDLE state for the mobile terminal (300) based on the first control policy. This enables, for example, to reduce the number of signalings which are caused due to repetition of state transition (CONNECTED-IDLE transition) of the mobile terminal and are to be processed by the core network, based on the determination by the core network.

  • Patent number: 10045158
Abstract: Displaying a map in a mobile communication device. Geographic coordinate information for a location of an address in a contact is determined. A user context for the mobile communications device is also determined. A request for a table of contents of available map data without the map data with the geographic coordinate information of the location as input is sent and the table of contents of available map data is received. A subset of map data comprising less data than is listed in the table of contents for the location corresponding to the geographic coordinate information is selected based on the table of contents of available map data and the user context. The subset of the map data is requested and the map with the subset of the map data is caused to be rendered in the display.

  • Patent number: 10021691
Abstract: Systems and methods for allocating frequencies based on group delay variation considerations include a base station that operates in a frequency range comprising a first set of frequency groups and a second set of frequency groups, where frequency groups of the first set are less susceptible to group delay variation based impairments than the frequency groups of the second set. In response to a requirement to transmit data between the base station and a particular UE, the base station determines whether the particular UE is receiving wireless service directly from the base station or via a relay associated with the base station, and when the particular UE is receiving wireless service via the relay, the base station allocates one or more frequency groups from the first set of frequency groups to use for transmitting data between the base station and the particular UE to satisfy the requirement.

  • Patent number: 10003938
Abstract: Systems and methods for sharing location information during a message conversation are provided. An electronic device detects a location-sharing request from a first participant of a message conversation to share first participant location information with a second participant. The device then enables the second participant to obtain the first participant location information during a predetermined location-sharing time period. In response to detecting interaction by one of the first participant and the second participant with the message conversation during the predetermined location-sharing time period, the device extends the predetermined location-sharing time period.

  • Patent number: 10004005
Abstract: A method and mechanism for operating user equipment to enable efficient reselection from a first cell conforming to a first wireless standard to a second cell conforming to a second wireless standard. The second standard may require a higher transmission rate for packet-switched data than the first standard. While camping on the first cell, the user equipment makes measurements of received power from the second cell. A reselection timer is started when a measurement is detected that is sufficiently strong. In response to an access state transition to a non-active protocol state (such as UMTS-PCH), the UE saves the timer value. When data becomes available for transmission, an additional measurement is made on the second cell, and reselection to the second cell may be performed immediately if the additional measurement and the saved timer value pass one or more reselection criteria.

  • Patent number: 9967731
Abstract: Embodiments relate to a User Equipment (UE) device and associated method performing improved data roaming with reduced cost. The UE may comprise at least one radio, one or more processors, a first SIM entity and a second SIM entity. The first SIM entity may be configured to implement subscriber identity module (SIM) functionality for a subscribed voice and/or data plan of a first carrier. The second SIM entity may be configured to facilitate dynamic subscription to a local data plan of a second carrier when the UE is data roaming outside of a network of the first carrier. As one example, the UE, using the second SIM entity, may be configured to dynamically subscribe to a pay-as-you-go data plan of a second carrier, to which the user is not subscribed, when the user is data roaming outside of the first carrier's network.

  • Patent number: 9961505
Abstract: A radio communication terminal receives position information showing a position of another radio communication terminal. The radio communication terminal obtains, from the position information, a terminal ID of the radio communication terminal, and a beacon ID for identifying the predetermined location nearest to the radio communication terminal. The radio communication terminal accepts the predetermined location designated by a user. The radio communication terminal determines as a communication partner terminal, the other radio communication terminal that is nearest to the accepted predetermined location based on the terminal ID and the beacon ID. The radio communication terminal performs communication with the determined communication partner terminal.

  • Patent number: 9949157
Abstract: A receiver receives a first packet signal including first position information indicating a position of a radio device from the radio device. A storage stores a list containing the first position information. An acquirer obtains second position information indicating the position of the terminal device. A determiner determines whether it is possible for the receiver to receive a second packet signal from the radio device based on the second position information and on the first position information contained in the list. An estimator estimates that a reception failure occurs in the receiver if the receiver fails to receive the second packet signal when the determiner determines that it is possible to receive the second packet signal.
