  • Patent number: 4620110
Abstract: A product such as a portable radio adapted for operation from either an internal battery source or an external source of relatively high voltage alternating current electric power is provided with a removable power module containing all of the high voltage components required for operation from the alternating current source. The removable power module is connected to the product by a low bulk, low voltage electrical connector through a recess in the product housing, the recess being sized to receive both the power module and the electrical connector when battery operation is desired. Because of the low bulk of the electrical connector, the size of the recess may be minimized.

  • Patent number: 4614877
Abstract: Apparatus for a redundant power supply comprises a receptacle and a pair of power supply inserts received therein and having connectors for the input voltage and for the output voltage. The outputs of two or more such power supply inserts are directly connected in parallel to one another. To this end, differently designed or arranged contact members for the input voltage and for the output voltage are provided. In a preferred embodiment, so-called leading contacts are employed for a charging current at the output side via a charging resistor before connecting the output of the insert being plugged in parallel with the output of an operating insert.

  • Patent number: 4612455
Abstract: A pulse forming network with distributed inductance and capacitance is diosed for use in a magnetic modulator. The magnetic modulator has a magnetic core with a primary winding and a secondary winding around it. The pulse forming network includes an inner winding of flattened wire around the magnetic core and connected to one end of the secondary winding for receiving an induced voltage. The pulse forming network also includes a metal foil shield around the inner winding, so that the induced voltage may be stored capacitively between the inner winding and the shield. When the magnetic core saturates, the impedance of the secondary winding drops, so that the pulse forming network discharges through a load. The shape of the pulse through the load is determined by the inductance of the inner winding and the capacitance between the inner winding and the shield.

  • Patent number: 4607170
Abstract: A unitary interconnection device for interconnecting digital data handling equipment which comprises an RS-232C type interface that includes a pair of pin connectors having a housing and multiple pins and a multiple conductor cable interconnecting the pins in the connectors, and an active signal circuit enclosed within the housing of one of the connectors and connected to pins in the connectors, wherein the signal circuit includes means for generating a time or clock signal for timing or clocking the flow of data signals through the interconnection device and a diode-capacitor network for providing power to the timing or clock signal generating means.

  • Patent number: 4602164
Abstract: A methodology for packaging and grounding electronic devices including distributive data processing systems wherein a Main Processing Unit (MPU) and power supply are packaged within a common housing. The MPU and other electrical components are placed on a common support card or substrate. The substrate is provided with plugs for mating with the power supply and I/O connectors for mating with devices which may be remotely attached thereto. Each connector is fitted with a shielded receptacle that coacts with the common housing to provide EMC shielding for the MPU and other electrical components. The packaging is such that an untrained person may replace the card without compromising the integrity of the EMC shield.
