The present invention also provides compositions and methods to evaluate the susceptibility of organisms to antimicrobial agents.
Abstract: Described is a method of identifying an immunologically active antigen of a virus that attacks skin, as well as a method of enriching a population of lymphocytes for T lymphocytes that are specific to a virus that attacks skin. Also provided are HSV antigens and epitopes that are useful for the prevention and treatment of HSV infection that have been identified via the methods of the invention. T-cells having specificity for antigens of the invention have demonstrated cytotoxic activity against cells loaded with virally-encoded peptide epitopes, and in many cases, against cells infected with HSV. The identification of immunogenic antigens responsible for T-cell specificity provides improved anti-viral therapeutic and prophylactic strategies. Compositions containing antigens or polynucleotides encoding antigens of the invention provide effectively targeted vaccines for prevention and treatment of HSV infection.

Abstract: A method for analyzing a sample to detect cells infected by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is provided. The method includes passing a medium containing the sample across a filter. The filter has a pore size that is greater than a dimension of a HPV particle, but smaller than a dimension of a HPV infected cell, such that most of the HPV particles pass through the filter, while leaving the cells on the filter. The material collected on the filter is then examined to determine if HPV infected cells are present in the material.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a vaccine composition comprising VLPs containing L1 proteins or functional L1 protein derivatives from HPV 16, HPV 18, HPV 31 and HPV 45 genotypes.
Abstract: The invention relates to the recombinant production of proteins as well as VLPs which are suitable as a vaccine for therapeutic and prophylactic vaccination. The invention also relates to processes for the production and purification of recombinant papilloma virus proteins and fusion proteins.

Abstract: Compositions that bind viral proteins that are specifically expressed during the latent stage of the viral life cycle are disclosed. These compositions bind the latent viral proteins while the viral proteins are expressed in their cellular host, and provide a means for targeting cells that harbor latent virus. In a preferred embodiment the compositions are antibodies which bind the extracellular region of the latent viral protein, most preferably LMP-2A, an EBV latent protein, which are conjugated to a diagnostic or cytotoxic agent or immobilized to a solid support for removal of the infected cells. These antibodies are capable of distinguishing cells expressing EBV DNA from cells which are not expressing EBV DNA. Compositions that can be used to elicit production of these antibodies, or as a vaccine, are also disclosed. Methods for generating diagnostic or cytotoxic reagents and vaccines based on the viral epitopes that identify cells harboring latent virus are also disclosed.
