  • Patent number: 6417969
Abstract: A virtual reality system (860-862) stereoscopically projects virtual reality images including a three dimensional image (960, 962) having an interface image (962) in a space observable by a user (100). The display system includes a substantially transparent display (862) which also allows real images of real objects (950) to be combined or superimposed with the virtual reality images. Selective areas or characteristics of the real images are obstructed (893, 893′) by a selective real image obstructer (860) to enhance viewing of selected virtual reality images while providing for viewing or real images or virtual images combined with real images in other viewing areas. Icons (FIG. 21) are displayed opposite the real image obstructions in order that a second person can ascertain the nature of the information viewed by the viewer.

  • Patent number: 6373056
Abstract: An improved gas detector apparatus includes a spectral source/bolometer for conducting an electrical current and for producing infrared radiation. The source/bolometer has a characteristic resistance that is a predetermined function of the source/bolometer temperature. A concentrating reflector directs the infrared radiation through a spectral filter and the gas. A return reflector is disposed along the axis beyond the spectral filer and the gas, such that at least a portion of the infrared radiation passing through the filter and the gas is reflected back through the gas and the filter to the source/bolometer. A driver/detector drives a current through the source/bolometer, determines the characteristic resistance of the source/bolometer, and detects the gas from a variation of the characteristic resistance.

  • Patent number: 6211916
Abstract: An imager, including: a semiconductor substrate; a plurality of spaced image pixels formed in the substrate; and a dielectric layer formed over the image pixels, the dielectric layer having a top surface. The imager further includes a plurality of depressions formed in the top surface; and a plurality of lenses having top surfaces, each lens formed in the depression corresponding to an underlying image pixel, the top surface of each lens being optically planar with the top surface of the dielectric.
