  • Patent number: 6861020
Abstract: Methods are taught for manufacturing a press molded article (1) that comprises a profiled substrate layer (10) and a foamed layer (20). A substrate material (12) may be press molded with a foamable material (22) under pressure in order to join or attach the foamable material to the substrate material. In addition, a profile may be imparted to the substrate material during the press molding step, thereby forming the profiled substrate layer. After the press molding step has been completed, the foamable material is foamed and expanded, to thereby form the foamed layer. A skin material (32) optionally may be applied to the foamable layer before the press molding step. Optionally, embossed patterns may be imparted to the skin material during the press molding step, thereby forming an embossed skin layer (30) that is attached to the foamed layer.

  • Patent number: 6855750
Abstract: Minute fibers are added to an alginate to form a fiber-alginate mixture or compound. The minute fibers may be man made such as nylon or may be natural such as hemp. The fiber-alginate mixture or compound is used in forming a mold, which may be used in casting directly from the human body. The addition of the minute fibers to the alginate creates enormous tear strength, which is far better than the tear strength of the alginate alone. The alginate and the fibers should be mixed in an alginate to fiber ratio by weight of about twenty-four to one for a natural fiber and a ratio of four to one for a man made fiber.

  • Patent number: 6846169
Abstract: An inventive mold is adapted to adhere skin materials having a boundary portion and a resin to each other, and is provided with a resin blocking member which is so embedded as to extend substantially along the boundary portion of the skin materials placed in the mold, and a movable member for projecting the resin blocking member from a molding surface. If such a mold is used, a flow of the resin supplied into the mold can be controlled by projecting the resin blocking member to thereby control an arrival timing of the resin at the boundary portion. Thus, displacement of the boundary portion and wrinkling can be securely prevented from occurring.

  • Patent number: 6838488
Abstract: A method for producing expanded polypropylene resin particles wherein polypropylene resin particles impregnated with a physical blowing agent are heated along with an aqueous medium and a dispersant and are released and expanded at reduced pressure from the interior of a pressure-tight vessel, wherein the aforementioned aqueous medium has an electrical conductivity of from not less than 0.00 ms/m to not more than 20.00 mS/m. The resulting particles obtained are without inconsistencies caused by differences in the amount of dispersant adhering to the particles or the amount of dispersant added to prevent the particles from fusing together during the heat treatment step of the method.
