  • Patent number: 8390951
Abstract: As a measure against vibration caused by disturbance due to mass eccentricity of a disc, a conventional disc device has a means to add an auxiliary mass that passively operates. This method has no way to enhance vibration damping effect other than setting the auxiliary mass to be large, and therefore there is a problem that the device becomes large. An auxiliary mass 300 is actively driven by an auxiliary mass driving portion 360. The driving of the auxiliary mass 300 is performed by amplifying a signal corresponding to a force transmitted from a main frame portion 100 to the auxiliary mass 300. This achieves a vibration damping effect using the small auxiliary mass 300 to the same degree as that where the large auxiliary mass is mounted.

  • Patent number: 8351151
Abstract: A thermally assisted magnetic write head having a near-field transducer, a magnetic lip and a diffusion barrier layer between the near-field transducer and the magnetic lip. The near-field transducer includes a transparent aperture constructed of a material such as SiO2 and an opaque metallic antenna constructed of a metal such as Au formed at a first edge of the aperture. A magnetic lip, connected with the write pole is formed near a second edge of the aperture with a diffusion barrier layer being disposed between the magnetic lip and the aperture. The diffusion barrier layer prevents migration of atomic between the aperture and the magnetic lip, thereby ensuring robust performance at localized high temperatures generated by the near-field transducer.

  • Patent number: 8345376
Abstract: A magnetic disk is provided wherein a non-magnetic substrate, a magnetic layer, a protection layer, and a lubrication layer are sequentially stacked. The surface of the lubrication layer has irregular structure patterns along a circumferential direction of the magnetic disk that have circumferential lengths that each correspond to a central angle. The irregular structure patterns may be formed by an adsorption between the lubrication layer and the surface of the protection layer. When a natural frequency of a magnetic head slider used to record to the magnetic disk is f and the magnetic disk rotation speed is R0, the central angle is set so as not to coincide with an angle ?0 expressed by ?0=360 ×(R0/60)/(f×1000).
