Patent number: 5798611Abstract: The spectral energy characteristic of a discharge lamp is controlled by changing the density of the fill substance. The spectral characteristic can be shifted while substantially maintaining its shape by changing the density of the fill. A sulfur or selenium containing discharge lamp which is operated at a pressure of at least about 1 atmosphere contains a low ionization potential substance in the fill. Characteristics which are improved are one or more of spatial color uniformity, extinguishing characteristics, and bulb starting reliability. Particular substances which are added to the fill are alkalai metal containing substances, III B metal containing substances, and alkaline earth metal containing substances. When light is reflected back into the bulb, the light which is re-emitted is stronger in the higher wavelengths.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1993Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: Fusion Lighting, Inc.Inventors: James T. Patent number: 5712974Abstract: An apparatus and method for altering the configuration of a data processing system with a plurality of processors connected in a cluster or sysplex. On one of the processors, a TSO address space with modules for defining the configuration is started. These modules are able to request details of the input/output configuration datasets (IOCDS) stored on the other processors within the cluster, amend the information and return it to the other processors where it is available for use.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1995Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Charles W. Patent number: 5581148Abstract: A novel electrode unit includes a plurality of linear cathodes and a plurality of flat-shaped electrodes. Each of the electrodes has a plurality of identification holes. The relative positional relationship of the identification holes is uniform with regard to each of the electrodes. However, the positions of the identification holes are shifted from those of adjacent electrodes by a predetermined interval so that a line connecting centers of the ID holes is parallel or perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the linear cathodes when the electrodes are piled up and evenly aligned. The identification holes allow the electrodes to be accurately positioned with respect to each other when assembling the electrodes into the electrode unit. Each of the electrodes also includes a temporary fixing part at an area indented from an outer circumference of the electrode. During assembly of an electrode unit, the temporary fixing part is fixed to a temporary fixing part of an adjacent electrode via a spacer.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toshifumi Nakatani, Kanji Imai, Tomohiro Sekiguchi, Makoto Inada

Patent number: 5250938Abstract: A triode-type electrophoretic display includes a glass viewing window upon which has been deposited a plurality of parallel cathode members. A plurality of grid members are deposited upon a layer of insulation above the cathode members and perpendicular thereto. A fluid-tight envelope encapsulating the cathode and grid members is formed by a glass cap having an conductor layer deposited on an interior surface for forming an anode. The glass cap seals against the viewing window. An electrophoretic fluid having pigmented particles suspended therein is contained in the envelope. The cathode and grid members have no free terminal ends within the fluid, instead, such ends extend beyond the fluid containing space and are covered by the cap. The cathode, grid and anode are selectively electrically chargeable to induce movement of the particles within the fluid, localized concentrations of particles at the intersections of the cathode and grid being visible through the viewing window.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1992Date of Patent: October 5, 1993Assignee: Copytele, Inc.Inventors: Frank J. Patent number: 5066073Abstract: A brake system intended for automotive vehicles provided with a brake pressure transmitter (1) which is linked to the wheel brakes through pressure medium lines, and with sensors (19 to 22, 24) which are responsive to the brake pressure or to the behavior of rotation of the wheels and by means of which the braking effect at the wheels brakes is detectable. Furthermore, separating valves (SO.sub.1, SO.sub.2, SO.sub.3, SO.sub.4, SO.sub.HA ) for shutting off the flow of pressure medium in one switching position are incorporated in the pressure medium paths leading to the wheel brakes. A monitoring circuit (3', 25') to which the sensor signals are transmittable recognizes the failure of one wheel brake and thereupon automatically commutates the separating valve located in the pressure medium path leading to the wheel brake which has failed into a valve position locking the flow of pressure medium.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1986Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Heinz Frigger, Klaus-Dieter Blum
