  • Patent number: 8488585
Abstract: There is provided a mobile station that minimizes a pause or a silent period during communication at the time of a reconnection process of communication, thereby to improve the user's convenience and achieve the reduction in the load applied onto the communication network or the mobile station. When an out of synchronization detection unit 4 of a mobile station 2 detects out of synchronization, an individual timer value determination unit 53 selects two or more timer value change triggers from timer value change triggers stored in a timer value change trigger memory 51, and then determines the timer values respectively for the timer value change triggers that have been selected, based upon the determination rules stored in an individual timer value determination rule memory 52. A reconnection timer value calculation unit 54 calculates an appropriate reconnection timer value based upon the two or more individual timer values that have been determined by the individual timer value determination unit 53.

  • Patent number: 8489690
Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium for providing a subscription to an e-mail message thread via a mobile device. A user may subscribe to an e-mail message thread utilizing a mobile device, based on a unique e-mail thread ID associated with the e-mail thread within the e-mail message itself. Updated data regarding the e-mail message thread can then be provided in response to activity associated with the e-mail message thread. The updated data can be provided in the form of, for example, a text message, a text-to-speech voicemail message, and so forth. Additionally, a telephone number associated with the mobile device can be added to a database stored in an e-mail server that manages the e-mail message and the e-mail message thread in order to subscribe to the e-mail message via a mobile device. SMS data associated with the user can also be added to the database.

  • Patent number: 8433337
Abstract: Method for received signal strength-based direction-of-arrival location estimation for wireless target in an indoor environment is disclosed. The method can use just one DOA sensor node with three antennas, configured substantially in the center of a predetermined confined indoor space. Packet signals can be transmitted by DOA sensor node to the wireless target, and vice versa, where each packet comprising of a fixed sensor node cover range. RSSI values are obtained for the respective RSSI states received from the wireless target at incident angles ? using the triangular antenna array, a 1P2T switch, and a vector signal deconstructor (VSD). A location (?, ?) of the localized object is calculated using a RSS-based DOA algorithm. A RSS to DOA localization system using the above method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8280384
Abstract: The location of a wireless mobile device may be estimated using, at least in part, one or more pre-existing Network Measurement Reports (“NMRs”) which include calibration data for a number of locations within a geographic region. The calibration data for these locations is gathered and analyzed so that particular calibration points within the geographic region can be determined and associated with a particular set or sets of calibration data from, for example, one or more NMRs. Sets of calibration points may be evaluated as a function of parameters of the calibration data, and a set of calibration points may be selected as a function of a predetermined criteria. Signal reception in the region may be estimated as a function of mobile device location in the region and an approximate statistical accuracy of a signal strength pattern determined as a function of the estimated signal reception.

  • Patent number: 8275406
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a base station for jointly controlling sub-channel transmission power and assigned codec modes for a first and second mobile station utilizing Voice services over Adaptive Multi-user channel on One Slot (VAMOS). The base station receives signal quality information reports from the mobile stations every 480 ms using the Slow Associated Control Channel (SACCH), and receives codec mode requests from the mobile stations every 40 ms using Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) in-band signaling. The base station associates the requested codec modes with estimated levels of speech quality currently being experienced by the first and second mobile stations. The base station then allocates sub-channel transmission power and assigns codec modes to the first and second mobile stations based on the estimated levels of speech quality associated with the requested codec modes and the signal quality reports.

  • Patent number: 8260264
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed that enable a terminal such as a computer-based softphone to retrieve and handle, transparently for its user, the voicemail that has been left by calling parties who called the user's cell-phone number. Furthermore, the softphone is able to integrate the presentation to its user of the voicemail associated with the cell phone with the voicemail that has been left by calling parties who called the softphone itself. The softphone features both i) a personal area network interface that is used to communicate directly with the cell phone and ii) a local area network interface that is used to retrieve the cell-phone voicemail from a voicemail system. Once the softphone is paired with the cell phone, the softphone is able to retrieve signals directly from the cell phone and, based on those signals, retrieves the voicemail from the cell phone's voicemail system.
