  • Patent number: 10887852
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to distributed joint access of an unlicensed sidelink channel. Each sidelink device may perform independent and asynchronous listen before talk (LBT) of the unlicensed sidelink channel with a respective back-off time. The first sidelink device to complete back-off may transmit a joint access synchronization (JAS) signal indicating a duration of time that the unlicensed sidelink channel may be accessed by sidelink devices. Synchronized access sharing of the unlicensed sidelink channel across different active sidelinks may then be achieved through distributed handshake signaling.

  • Patent number: 8537792
Abstract: When prohibiting data transmission by a radio communication terminal, such as a radio communication terminal L-STA, a terminal control apparatus generates radio data including information about a data transmission prohibition time interval in an L-SIG which is a header region which each radio communication terminal can recognize in common, and, if a use state checking unit 21 has checked to see that a channel CH_a is being not used, transmits the radio data to the radio communication terminal L-STA and so on in the form of frames which the radio communication terminal L-STA can recognize by using the channel CH_a.

  • Patent number: 8081665
Abstract: Asynchronous/plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH) signals, such as DS1 and E1, are transported using virtual concatenation. The packetized data signals are frame encapsulated and subsequently inverse multiplexed into a plurality of PDH frames. An overhead packet is inserted in the transmitted frames to enable the receiver to determine the status of the frames and extract the differential delay experienced by various frames as they are routed through virtually concatenated channels. The extracted delays enables the receiver to realign the various frames of the PDH signal to reconstitute the originally transmitted signals that travel through different paths of the transport network linking the source and sink of the virtually concatenated channel.

  • Patent number: 8018944
Abstract: A packet processor includes a forwarding table configured to store address prefixes and a search engine configured to receive a packet and to search the forwarding table. The search engine includes a set bit counter configured to receive an address of the packet, to count set bits of a first bit vector associated with the packet, and to output a number of the set bits. A next hop table is configured to store a next hop pointer. A next bucket pointer receives the number of set bits and outputs one of the next hop pointers and the next bucket pointer based on the number of set bits.

  • Patent number: 8009684
Abstract: A method for communication includes configuring a plurality of ring nodes to communicate over a communication network that includes two or more overlapping communication rings, each ring including two unidirectional ringlets in mutually-opposite directions. A data packet including one or more header fields is accepted at an ingress ring node. An egress ring node to which the data packet is to be forwarded by the ingress ring node is determined. A subset of the rings including one or more common rings that are connected to both the ingress and egress ring nodes is identified. A ringlet of a ring among the one or more common rings is selected responsively to a respective value of at least one of the header fields of the packet. The data packet is forwarded from the ingress ring node to the egress ring node over the selected ringlet.

  • Patent number: 7965683
Abstract: A method and system for allocating a particular uplink control region to both HARQ ACKCH and CQICH in order to maximize uplink bandwidth for data transfer in a communication network. A control region scheduling (CRS) utility assigns a higher priority to HARQ ACKCH relative to CQICH. When both HARQ ACKCH and CQICH are to be allocated for a subscriber in the same region in the same frame, HARQ ACKCH is allocated in the region while CQICH is rejected. As the substitute to the rejected CQICH, the CRS utility may use current uplink channel quality information in combination with the corresponding HARQ ACK transmission to estimate the downlink channel quality information for the subscriber. Upon receiving the HARQ ACK information, the CRS utility updates the subscriber(s) uplink channel quality information. The CRS utility also provides a configurable option of activating or de-activating the sharing of the uplink control region.

  • Patent number: 7957273
Abstract: A re-transmit processor for a wireless communication system includes a pointer memory which contains pointers associated with particular packet data in a host memory. The re-transmit processor directs data associated with said pointers to be applied to a media access controller, which optionally contains an encryption function, the output of which is coupled to a block buffer and to an output interface. Upon receipt of a transmission request, the host memory locations associated with the pointers are read and the data directed to the media access controller, which adds a header, a CRC, and optionally encrypts the data, thereafter placing it in the block buffer and the output interface. Upon provision of the packet data to the MAC, the associated pointer is initialized to a FREE or UNUSED value, and upon receipt of an acknowledgement of the packet accompanied by a packet identifier from a receiving station, the packet associated with the packet identifier is removed from the block buffer.

  • Patent number: 7940806
Abstract: A system and method are provided for mapping information into Synchronous Payload Envelopes (SPEs). The method provides information bytes at a nominal system clock-based data rate, which is about equal to a system clock, but may be adjusted. An external clock has a rate approximately equal to the system clock rate. The method generates SPEs with identically-positioned information bytes, regardless of differences between the system and external clock rates. The SPEs are combined with Transport Overhead (TOH) and transmitted as a message frame at the external clock rate. SPEs are generated maintaining the positions of the information bytes within each SPE, without pointer adjustments, despite differences between the system and external clock rates. Expressed another way, message frames are generated with payload and TOH sections, and the information bytes are located exclusively in the payload sections. As a result, constant pointer values (e.g., H1/H2 or V1/V2) are maintained for all the SPEs.

  • Patent number: 7940726
Abstract: The disclosure relates to building a topology map that can be used to provide a requesting wireless terminal with information relevant to its current location. Information on neighboring cells of different access networks is maintained in the topology map. An inter-access network (IAN) topology apparatus builds to topology map based on results of previous IAN session transfers such as handovers from one access network to a different access network. When the requesting wireless terminal currently accessing a current network makes a request for topology information, the IAN topology apparatus provides a list of cells of other than the current access network in the area of the requesting wireless terminal. The requesting wireless terminal uses the information to scan for cells of other access networks to potentially perform the IAN session transfer. The requesting wireless terminal conserves power by scanning only for accessible cells indicated to be in its area.

  • Patent number: 7924794
Abstract: A method for centralized radio resource allocation in a communication network including a Network Control and Management System and at least one Base Station Cluster having a set of Base Station Entities to which respective permutation zones and radio resources are to be allocated. The Network Control and Management System controls the allocation of permutation zones and radio resources to the Base Station Entities by aligning the permutation zones of different Base Station Entities and by determining the radio resources to be used within each permutation zone. Preferably, the Network Control and Management System issues towards the Base Station Entities a first message requesting information on the radio resources available including specific information items for each permutation zone.

  • Patent number: 7916734
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining a transmission path of a router system, in which a forwarding table of the router system is managed with a dualized address system including an absolute address indicating a physical port and a relative address indicating the place of the absolute address. Only the absolute address in a relative forwarding table can be changed without changing the relative address when traffic congestion occurs on a certain port of the router system or when load-balancing is needed, so that the router can actively cope with a real-time change of a destination address.

  • Patent number: 7912068
Abstract: Embodiments of a scheduler for a switch, where the switch is configured to couple input ports to output ports are described. During operation, the scheduler may determine a schedule based on a group of requests, associated with multiple data streams, that are received for the output ports of the switch, where the schedule matches input ports to output ports of the switch for a given data cell time. Note that the schedule may be determined using an arbitration technique during a time interval. Moreover, the scheduler may assign an additional request, which was received at a time that precedes a current time by less than the time interval, to a portion of the switch which is available in the schedule, thereby reducing a latency of the scheduler.
