Abstract: An information retrieval system uses phrases to index, retrieve, organize and describe documents. Phrases are extracted from the document collection. Documents are the indexed according to their included phrases, using phrase posting lists. The phrase posting lists are stored in an cluster of index servers. The phrase posting lists can be tiered into groups, and sharded into partitions. Phrases in a query are identified based on possible phrasifications. A query schedule based on the phrases is created from the phrases, and then optimized to reduce query processing and communication costs. The execution of the query schedule is managed to further reduce or eliminate query processing operations at various ones of the index servers.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method to access a data structure including a tree data structure in a computing environment. The method includes generating the data structure in the computing environment. The tree data structure includes a plurality of nodes, a node in the plurality of nodes embodying a plurality of fields, and at least one child link and at least one next link, the at least one child link and the at least one next link being used to link two or more nodes in the plurality of nodes. The method further includes accessing contents of the data structure with an access command in the computing environment. The access command includes a reference to at least one node of the tree data structure and a user-defined argument.

Abstract: A method for clustering a plurality of content items. The method comprises, determining intervals between at least some of the content items, and then selecting a seed pair of content items using the determined intervals. The seed pair is then assigned to a current cluster, before an interval is determined between one of the content items in the current cluster and a neighboring one of the content items. The interval is then compared to a predetermined criterion in response to a successful comparison, the content item is assigned to the cluster.

Abstract: An automatic account organization tool is provided to organize a large adgroup into smaller adgroups with semantically meaningful names. For example, a set of input keywords is received, semantically related pairs of keywords are identified from the set of input keywords, and hierarchical clustering is applied to the pairs of keywords to identify a set of clusters of keywords, each cluster having semantically related keywords. A name can be determined for each of the clusters.

Abstract: Methods and systems for receiving feedback from a user regarding the relevance of search results to a search query are provided. The method includes presenting at least one search result responsive to a search query by the user, selecting ones of the at least one search result that are determined by the user to be relevant to the search query, and increasing a relevance ranking of the selected search results in future searches based on the determination.

Abstract: When a user records confidential data in a communicating object, the user inputs the confidential data which are encoded and transmitted, with a reference of the user, towards a server in order to record the encoded confidential data in association with the reference. When a user searches for a reference of another user of a communicating object in the communicating object, the user inputs a search datum which is encoded and transmitted to the server for comparing therein the encoded search datum transmitted to all of the encoded confidential data recorded in the server. The server transmits a reference associated with an encoded confidential datum corresponding to the encoded search data to the communicating object. In this way, the user of the communicating object is put into contact with the other user without knowing the data of the other user.

Abstract: A system and method for media enhanced messaging. A message from a message sender to be delivered to at least one message recipient is received over a network. The message comprises at least one delivery criteria and at least one content criteria. When it is determined, via the network that the delivery criteria of the message has been satisfied, a query is formulated based on the content criteria so as to search, via the network, for user profile data, social network data, spatial data, temporal data and topical data that is available via the network and relates to the content criteria and to media files so as to identify at least one media file that is relevant to the content criteria. The media files are inserted into the message and the message is transmitted over the network to the recipient.

Abstract: A method of identifying images containing a unique object found in at least two separate image collections of different users comprising identifying the unique object and providing features for the unique object; at least one user identifying at least two separate image collections produced by separate users that potentially have images of the unique object; and using the features to search the at least two separate collections to identify images that contain the unique object.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for copying data from a primary storage facility to a secondary storage facility which reduce the workload on the storage controller in the primary facility and minimize bandwidth usage. The primary storage facility includes a primary data replication appliance which transfers data to a secondary replication appliance. Updated data from a host is both stored through a storage controller in the primary facility and also received by the primary replication appliance. Logic in the primary replication appliance determines whether the immediately previous version of the data is in a buffer from a previous storage operation. If so, the current (updated) version of the data is compared with the previous version and the difference, such as calculated through a bit-wise exclusive-OR operation, is transferred to the secondary replication appliance.

Abstract: In one embodiment, systems and methods are provided for nonlinear journaling. In one embodiment, groups of data designated for storage in a data storage unit are journaled into persistent storage. In one embodiment, the journal data is recorded nonlinearly. In one embodiment, a linked data structure records data and data descriptors in persistent storage.

Abstract: Managing metadata in a metadata repository that includes parsing metadata to determine an identity of the metadata and individual items associated with the metadata. Converting the identity of the metadata and the individual items associated with the metadata into corresponding object structures. Storing the object structure representing the identity of the metadata into a first table of the metadata repository and storing the object structures that represent the individual items associated with the metadata into a second table of the metadata repository. Responsive to receiving a request to modify a row in the first table or a row in the second table, logically deleting the row being modified without actually deleting or modifying the row, and creating a new row within the first table or the second table having the modified row, in which the new row further includes a link to the logically deleted row.

Abstract: Facilitating a user determination of an exclusion keyword in order to specify an efficient exclusion of an unwanted piece of data when the user narrows searching objects. Exclusion is accomplished in a system having a searching object data storage for storing pieces of searching object data, a searcher for performing a primary narrowing of the search, a common keyword extractor for extracting the common keywords associated with a piece of data, an input/output device for passing a selected keyword selected the extracted common keywords while receiving and displaying a result from an exclusion efficiency calculator. The exclusion efficiency calculator calculates exclusion efficiency and indicates a level of exclusion efficiency of data that is not associated with a selected keyword for an individual common keyword.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are generally related to data processing, and more specifically to retrieving results for a query from one or more devices coupled to a network. A first device may receive an abstract query including logical fields defined by a first data abstraction model and retrieve query results stored in the first device. The query may be sent to one or more other devices via the network. The one or more other devices may be configured to convert the abstract query to local abstract queries including logical fields defined in local data abstraction models. The local queries may be issued against local databases to retrieve additional results for the query.

Abstract: Some embodiments of a workflow management system to process medical image data generated by a medical imaging device have been presented. In one embodiment, a user selects a workflow template with a predefined set of image processing stages, and applies the workflow template to the medical image data. Each of the predefined set of image processing stages in the workflow template includes one or more image processing operations. Each of the image processing operations is capable of generating metadata for processing the medical image data. The medical image data is then processed through each of the predefined image processing stages. The result of processing is a collection of metadata. Each metadata in the collection can be applied to the medical image data to generate a medical image view.

There is included a memory means for relating a music to a characteristic of the music and memorizing the music and the characteristics; a reproduction means for reproducing the music; a process means for processing the characteristic of the music thus reproduced by the reproduction means based on an instruction of a manipulation input; a characteristic detection means for detecting the characteristic of the music thus processed; and a search means for searching the music thus memorized by the memory means based on the characteristic of the music thus detected.

Abstract: The current invention is a method and a system for analyzing templates of queries, with different levels of precision. When the system of the current invention takes a decision to arrange data, these templates are used, and a single data arrangement object (HRBlob) is designed which may serve a single template or several templates and not just a single query. This approach has an important impact on data arrangement performance and on queries performance, since this approach may help many more queries to be handled using less data arrangement objects.

Abstract: A multimedia player and method is disclosed for displaying multimedia content on a video screen. A video stream and a markup language segment associated with the video stream are received, wherein the markup language segment comprising a time stamp identifying a target segment of the video stream, and at least one keyword associated with the time stamp. The keyword is transmitted over a network to a search engine, and related content is received from the search engine over the network, wherein the related content is related to the keyword. When the target segment of the video stream is displayed on the video screen, the related content is concurrently displayed on the video screen.

Abstract: Techniques for global single instance indexing for backup data are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method for indexing backup data. The method may comprise generating a content hash for an item being backed up. The item may be associated with a resource name and the content hash may be used as an identifier in backup and indexing. The method may further comprise saving an entry for the item in an index database. The entry may comprise a resource list which may comprise the resource name and a reference count associated with the resource name. Moreover, the method may comprise setting a value for the reference count.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that automatically identifies compounds, such as bigrams or n-grams. During operation, the system obtains selections of search results which were selected by one or more users, wherein the search results were previously generated by a search engine in response to queries containing search terms. Next, the system forms a set of candidate compounds from the queries, wherein each candidate compound comprises n consecutive terms from a query. Then, for each candidate compound in the set, the system analyzes the selections of search results to calculate a likelihood that the candidate compound is a compound.

Abstract: Some embodiments herein include at least one of systems, methods, and software for presenting within an Internet browsing application a search box adjacent to the last tab in the tabbed area of the Internet browsing application. The search box, in some embodiments, receives text input of a search query, adds to the search query at least one tracking code associated with at least one of a user and the Internet browsing application, and submits the query and tracking code combination against at least one search engine.
