Abstract: In a method of and an apparatus for manufacturing a glass fiber mat, bundles of glass fibers shake down onto a conveyor unit arranged horizontally, to form a non-oriented fiber layer. The non-oriented fiber layer is dried by a drier. Bundles of uni-directional fibers are supplied onto the dried non-oriented fiber layer, by a bundle supply device, to laminate the uni-directional fiber layer onto the dried non-oriented fiber layer. At the laminating, the bundles of uni-directional fibers are guided in parallel relation to each other at regular intervals in a widthwise direction of the conveyor unit. The uni-directional and non-oriented fiber layers, which are laminated one upon the other, are supplied to a needler and are needled thereby, to form the glass fiber mat. The glass fiber mat is carried out by a delivery roller unit.

Abstract: To ensure that a needle board of a needling machine can be detached from the needle beam in a simple manner and without a substantial expenditure of work, the needle beam is provided with spring-biased mechanisms for clamping the needle board and actuators associated with said clamping mechanisms are provided on the machine frame or on the stripper.

Abstract: Treated fabric is described that exhibits good bond characteristics when embedded in a resin binder making it possible to obtain a laminated plaque having a finished uniform surface quality.

Abstract: A surgeon's headpiece (10) comprises a cap (12) having an elongated, flexible, eyeglass retainer member (14) attached at an interior surface (24) of a front portion (18) thereof with an outer, distal, end portion (32) for looping about a nose bridge (52) of eyeglasses (50) and doubling back on itself and being fastened to itself. The cap is slit at the front portion with the eyeglass retainer member being attached to the cap on opposite sides of the slit (20) in the interior of the cap so that a top surface (34) of the eyeglass retainer is exposed at an exterior (36) of the cap, with the distal end portion of the eyeglass retainer being brought into contact with, and fastened to, the top surface exposed through the slit. A proximal end portion (30) of the eyeglass retainer member has a greater width than the distal end portion.

Abstract: A selective body portion protecting means for use on an elbow, knee, leg, calf, or the like, to prevent friction on a wound, burn, bed sore, or the like. The protector includes a first non-woven fabric which contacts the body portion, and a second frictionless fabric which contacts the first non-woven fabric, and a third frictionless fabric which contacts the second frictionless fabric and which rests on a support. The first and second fabrics typically are formed and joined so as to envelop the selective body portion.

Abstract: In an apparatus for needling a web, which apparatus comprises a brushlike web support consisting of individual brush plates, it is desired to substantially eliminate an influence of the joints between the brush plates on the surface pattern of the needled nonwoven web. To that end the bristle tufts of those rows of tufts which extend adjacent to and along the joints between the brush plates are carried individually or in groups in alternation by the two brush plates which are disposed on opposite sides of the joint.

Abstract: It is desired to use different needle pitches in the operation of an apparatus for needling a web without a need for replacing the needle board, the stripper and the optionally perforate backing. This is accomplished in that the holes provided in the needle board and serving to receive the needles, the holes of the perforate stripping plate and the holes in an optional perforate backing plate are arranged in at least two groups of holes and the holes in each row of each group are uniformly distributed over the working width of the apparatus.

Abstract: A front-lock stabilizer for protective shoulder pads having breastplates and backplates wherein the breastplates are closed by laced interdigitated plates fixedly secured to the vertical edges of the breastplates, and the backplates are closed by a plurality of rigid plates extending between the backplates and fixedly secured thereto. The breastplates are prevented from being deflected inwardly relative to each other to thereby prevent injury to the wearer's sternum, and the right and left shoulder pads are prevented from movement relative to each other in a vertical plane to prevent one shoulder from receiving the full impact of a hit to the shoulder.

Abstract: A ventilated shirt including a shirt body and two sleeves attached thereto along shoulder seams thereof, the shirt body having a pair of elongated, mesh inserts disposed along side seams thereof, and each sleeve having a similar elongated, mesh insert disposed along sleeve seam thereof. An underarm portion of non-mesh material is disposed proximate both sides of each shoulder seam to absorb perspiration. The shirt of the present invention offers protection from damaging solar rays, and yet permits air circulation for comfort and temperature regulation.

Abstract: Traveling and disposable underwear is provided and consists of typically three undergarments which are an undershirt, a pair of men's underpants and a pair of women's panties. The three undergarments are fabricated of an absorbent material and include elastic bands for comfortably holding the undergarments to the wearer. The three undergarments are also provided with magnetic fasteners for closing openings and securing together similarly provisioned garments which allow for easier donning and doffing without tearing the undergarments.

Abstract: Textile fabric shielding electromagnetic radiation, and clothing made thereof. The textile fabric is made of threads spun of textile fibers, containing cotton, and of steel fibers having a diameter of 6 to 10 .mu.m. The number of mixed yarn threads in warp direction and in weft direction each is 18 to 20 threads per cm, and the yarn fineness of the textile fabric is especially 38 to 40 tex. The textile fabric guarantees a shielding of 20 to 40 dB against electromagnetic radiation at a frequency of 10 GHz. The fabric has the quality of usual clothing, and the clothing thereof is designed with respect to proportions, seams, fasteners, and other special features in a manner such that especially people wearing pacemakers, or hospital and radar personnel, are protected against electromagnetic radiation.

Abstract: A process for producing a painted, cord-bordered design on a comforter, includes the steps of superimposing a facing sheet of material on a layer of batting material which is on a backing sheet, positioning a cording material on the facing sheet in a predetermined pattern by use of a quilting machine, stitching the cording material immediately after positioning, the stitching going through all the layers of the comforter, removing the work piece from the quilting machine and painting those areas of the desired design which are bordered by the cording material.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming fluff pads and the like wherein fluff providing material webs are introduced into separate hammermills and then delivered through a plurality of ducts through a moving screen under vacuum and wherein the ducts are characterized by reverse bends to densify the particle stream at the outside of the curvature for generally perpendicular deposition on the screen.

Abstract: A fixture and method for center-loop bow making is provided. The fixture is made of a one-piece resilient material such as a flat piece of neoprene, and includes two lobes which form a necked inlet which leads into an enlarged pocket. The necked inlet releasably retains ribbon placed therethrough into the pocket and is aided by the frictional characteristics of the fixture material and the expanding ribbon material. The lobes are designed to permit a center-loop to be formed over the center of the bow and also to facilitate tying of the bow around the ribbon held in the enlarged pocket. The lobes resiliently bend out of the way to release the ribbon held in the pocket after the bow is made. The method includes forming the bow from ribbon in the fixture and looping the last portion of the ribbon over the center of the bow to form a center-loop which covers the center of the bow. The method also includes bending the lobes of the fixture out of the way to release the bow formed therein.

Abstract: A unique protective knee pad is disclosed which is comprised of one-piece molded resilient polyurethane foam. The pad has a special U-shaped sole with a transverse bar through the middle portion and a transverse bar at the rear. Two cavities are created by the transverse bars which are adapted to entrap air when the wearer is in the operative kneeling position thereby cushioning the delicate parts of the patella and upper shin, by preventing the outwardly extending portion of the knee from coming into contact with the ground.

Abstract: A combined and fixed necktie having a necktie body, a sheath member, an adjusting plate, a neck rope and a neck rope retainer. The adjusting plate can adjust and fix the length of the necktie body which is inserted into rectangular apertures of the adjusting plate. The twined necktie body and adjusting plate can be fixed in the sheath member. The rope retainer being fixed in the sheath member can control the diameter of the neck rope so that is is very convenient and easy for the wearer to wear or remove the necktie.

Abstract: An invalid garment made up of a shirt and trousers. The shirt has a slit down the back from the collar to the tail and a slit down each side from a waistband position to the tail. The trousers have the seat removed from the waistband to the crotch. The waistband can be attached by VELCRO. A slit is formed down the rear of each of the legs of the trousers and VELCRO is provided down the slit so that the trousers can be placed over the patient's lap and the waist band and slit legs can be attached, thereby fitting a patient with a shirt and trousers.

Abstract: A method of displaying information comprises the steps of applying informational indicia to the armpit regions of a shirt so that the indicia are substantially concealed when a wearer of the shirt has their arms lowered by their sides, a wearer donning the shirt, and the wearer raising their arms above their head to reveal the informational indicia. Preferably, the indicia are in two successive, different parts, the first part being applied to the right armpit region and the second part being applied to the left armpit region.

Abstract: A tentering chain has a continuously adjustable chain pitch for the simultaneous biaxial treatment of film webs. Tenter bodies conventionally equipped with clamps or hooks for gripping an edge of the film web are carried by the tentering chain. Guide rails operate the tenter clamps. Neighboring tenter bodies are interconnected by chain links. Each chain link is connected by a hinging connection at each end to the respective tenter body. At least one of the two hinging connections of a chain link is adjustable by a hinging bolt having an eccentric section or sections and a circular section or sections. The adjustable eccentric hinging bolts are mounted for rotation in the tenter bodies and the eccentric section engages the respective end of the chain link. For this purpose the chain link has a bore in which the eccentric section is received.

Abstract: A crotch construction for a garment of pliable fabric which prevents the bunching of the fabric into the median cleft of the body in the crotch area. A barrier piece of relatively heavy, non-stretch material is sewn to a strip attached at its edges to the cloth of the garment, so as to float over the cleft and prevent folds of the cloth of the garment from entering and bunching therein.
