  • Patent number: 6694796
Abstract: An apparatus for calibrating a particulate matter continuous emission monitoring system includes: a feed unit that supplies particulate matter of a known mass flow rate; an eductor unit connected with the feed unit that receives particulate matter therefrom; a fluidizing unit connected to the eductor that supplies gas to the eductor unit, wherein the particulate matter and gas are combined into a fluidized mixture; and a probe connected to the eductor configured to extend within an industrial stack and deliver the fluidized mixture therein. Such an apparatus can provide accurate data regarding particulate matter concentration that can be compared with readings on the PM CEMS and enable a calibration curve to be generated. A tracer gas injection unit and analyzer may also be included.

  • Patent number: 6662628
Abstract: An asynchronous motor is used in the process for determining the proportion of a gas constituent, especially water vapor, contained in a gas mixture. The asynchronous motor drives a delivery device for circulating the gas mixture that is used for treating foodstuffs. The difference between the rotational speed, which occurs while the delivery device is driven, and the synchronous rotational speed, i.e. the slip, is used as a measure for the sought proportion of the gas constituent at respectively established pressure and temperature values of the gas mixture.

  • Patent number: 6508115
Abstract: A transfer roll 1 for conveying a strip of substantially flat material from one device to another. The strip passes over the transfer roll as the transfer roll rotates. The transfer roll includes a flat and smooth cylindrical outer skin which comprises at least two cylindrical elements. Between the cylindrical elements is arranged a mean 7 for reducing the mechanical stiffness of the cylindrical skin relative to the stiffness of the remainder of the cylindrical skin 2. Suitable means such as a welded joint 9 of reduced cross sectional thickness compared to the remainder of the cylinder are described. Such means separate the cylinder mechanically into a plurality of measurement areas with a predetermined degree of crosstalk. The transfer roll may be used to measure force or tension in strip material more accurately than with previous devices.

  • Patent number: 6485013
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining media level in a cassette. A single, fixed media level sensor is located adjacent to where the media is fed from the cassette. The bottom of the cassette is moved up until the top piece of media triggers the fixed sensor. The number of steps of the stepper motor (or the time an analog motor is on) indicates the distance the bottom of the cassette must be raised before the top of the media stack hits the sensor. The number of steps is used directly to determine the height of the stack of media and, therefore, the level of media in the cassette.

  • Patent number: 6467342
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring velocity of a projectile includes a plurality of break-screens aligned with each other serially and along a line of travel of the projectile, and parallel to each other, and spaced from each other and from a projectile firing device by selected distances. Each break-screen includes a support sheet and an electrically conductive wire mounted on the sheet so as to be interrupted by passage of the projectile through the sheet. A single amplifier is in communication with each of the conductive wires and is adapted to provide an indication as to a change in voltage in each of the break-screens upon passage of the projectile therethrough, and an indication as to time of the passage. A data collection/display apparatus computes therefrom the velocity of the projectile.

  • Patent number: 6446506
Abstract: The present invention provides a fluid level sensing switch for use with a device having a fluid reservoir. The switch is float activated and closes a circuit so as to change an operating parameter in the event that the volume of fluid in the reservoir falls below a predetermined level. Once the volume of fluid is restored to a predetermined safe level, the switch automatically resets to an open position to permit normal operation of device.
