Patent number: 8992489Abstract: A fluid delivery system which includes a pressurizing device for delivering injection fluid under pressure, a low pressure fluid delivery system, and a pressure isolation mechanism. The pressure isolation mechanism includes a valve housing having a first port associated with the pressurizing device, a second port associated with the low pressure fluid delivery system, an outlet port associated with a patient, and a pressure isolation port for connection with a pressure transducer. A first valve in a normally open position permits fluid communication between the first port and the second port and is movable to a closed position when fluid pressure in the first port increases to a predetermined pressure level. The first valve isolates the pressure isolation port from the first port when in the closed position. A second valve is associated with the second port and regulates fluid flow through the second port.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2010Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: Bayer Medical Care Inc.Inventors: Michael A. Patent number: 8945049Abstract: In an elongated casing, an active agent container connected to an injection needle can be shifted axially by a spring force. Auto-injectors which are sold or distributed filled and with the springs tensed have to be provided with a needle protecting cap to ensure the sterility of the injection needle. When such a needle protecting cap is removed as preparation for using the auto-injector, a tensile force can be exerted on the active agent container. Therefore, the active agent container comprising the injection needle must be prevented from being undesirably pulled forwards. At least one latching tongue prevents the active agent container from being prematurely shifted with respect to the casing, by abutting a flange arranged on a sliding sleeve which accommodates the active agent container. When the auto-injector is placed onto a person's skin, a needle protecting tube is shifted into the casing, forcing the latching tongue away from the flange and, thus, freeing the travel path for needle movement.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2013Date of Patent: February 3, 2015Assignee: TecPharma Licensing AGInventors: Edgar Hommann, Benjamin Scherer

Patent number: 8882768Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument that reduces the amount of fatigue experienced by a physician performing electrosurgery includes a hand piece with a utility conduit connected to the hand piece at a central portion of the hand piece. The utility conduit can include an electrical cable and a smoke/fluid evacuation hose. The hand piece can include a channel system that receives a portion of the utility conduit therein and allows a physician to adjust the location on the hand piece at which the utility conduit exits the hand piece. Adjusting the location on the hand piece at which the utility conduit exits the hand piece can reduce the resistance to the movement of the electrosurgical instrument created by the weight of the utility conduit, which leads to less fatigue in a physician's hand during electrosurgery.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Megadyne Medical Products, Inc.Inventors: Darcy W. Patent number: 8882743Abstract: A packaged kit for performing a photodynamic laser myringotomy includes a plurality of ear needles having different shaped absorbent applicators on distal ends of the needles, a vial of a single dose of an otologic formulation of mitomycin-C, a diluent carrier containing sterilized water, and a syringe. The component parts of the kit are used together to reconstitute the contents of the vial with the water in the diluent carrier, and then draw the reconstituted drug into the syringe. A selected one of the plurality of ear needles is then communicated with the syringe. The syringe and needle are then used to inject the reconstituted drug into the absorbent pad at the end of the needle, and the absorbent pad containing the drug is used to apply the drug to the tympanic membrane. The application of the drug to the tympanic membrane prepares the membrane for a myringotomy procedure, and in particular, a photodynamic laser myringotomy.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2009Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Mobius Otologics, LLCInventor: Edward J.
