  • Patent number: 6631276
Abstract: A base unit accommodates a radio terminal for making radio communications. This base unit has a recess for accommodating part of the radio terminal formed at least in two mutually orthogonal planes of the base unit body. An opening is formed at the inner side of the recess. Inside the base unit, a connector electrically connects and fixes the radio terminal. A rear part of the radio terminal is inserted through the opening. The base unit includes a lid for shielding the entire recess. The base unit body may include an external antenna connected to a cable having a terminal for connecting with an external antenna terminal provided in the radio terminal. This terminal may be disposed at a position corresponding to the external antenna terminal of the radio terminal of the lid. The base unit design is improved, invasion of foreign matter is prevented, and the radio reaching distance and directivity of the base unit are enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6611687
Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system receives information from a wireless mobile unit and determines that the wireless mobile unit is within a designated region. Information specific to the designated region is received at a centrally located location-based message server. As the traveler enters the designated region, the wireless mobile unit then receives information specific to the designated region such as information relating to traffic problems or desired locations within the region. Alternatively, a problem is identified and designated as relating to a particular region, and wireless mobile units within the designated region are then identified so that information relating to the problem can be output thereto. As such, information specific to a region occupied to a traveler is received.

  • Patent number: 6526287
Abstract: A battery pack of a cellular phone is equipped with a battery and an electronic device such as an MP3 player. When the battery pack is detached from the cellular phone, the battery is a power supply for the MP3 player only. When the battery pack is attached to the cellular phone, the battery is the power supply for both the cellular phone and the MP3 player. A detector detects whether the attached device is a hands free device or an MP3 player, and if an MP3 player is attached to the cellular phone, a switch facilitates communication between the cellular phone and the MP3 player. If the cellular phone orders the MP3 player to play or execute other functions, instructions transmit to the MP3 player through a connector in a battery pack and the MP3 player operates. During MP3 player operation, information such as a name of a song, a singer and playing time transmits to a CPU through a connector and is displayed on a liquid crystal display of the cellular phone.

  • Patent number: 6490257
Abstract: When carrying out CDMA/TDD-based data communications between a base station apparatus and mobile station apparatus, the base station apparatus and mobile station apparatus carry out VOX control turning ON/OFF transmission operation according to the presence/absence of transmission data and if transmission on the base station transmitting side is OFF the mobile station receiving side receives channels being sent all the time from the base station apparatus, performing open-loop transmission power control, and if transmission on the mobile station transmitting side is OFF the mobile station apparatus transmits dummy slots with small transmission power while the base station receiving side receives the dummy slots, performing transmission space diversity.

  • Patent number: 6449474
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a communications system for providing call interception. A call is received at a switch in the communications system. Responsive to the call involving a service using identification numbers unknown to the communications system, a remote database associated with the service is queried, wherein the remote database contains a plurality of identification numbers. A result is received from the remote database in response to querying the remote database. A call interception service is initiated based on the result.

  • Patent number: 6430166
Abstract: Receiver for enhanced performance for CDMA radio transmission comprising a Rake receiver (1) with a path searcher (3), a channel estimator (4) and a combiner (5) for selecting optimal channels paths where the path searcher (3) selects a set of path delays (7) where at least two path searchers (3a,3b) are connected in way that the output of the first path searcher (3a) is linked to one input of the second path searcher (3b).

  • Patent number: 6393276
Abstract: In a CDMA system, forward link load measurements and mobile station channel measurements are provided to the base station controller to allow the controller to jointly select the initial traffic channel transmit power and data rate. A mobile station reports a received pilot channel signal-to-noise ratio for all base stations in sight to a base station controller. The base stations report a current forward link load estimate to the base station controller. The base station controller sets a number of traffic channel connections and a traffic channel data rate to be allocated for the traffic channel connections, and sets a target traffic channel signal-to-noise ratio based on the data rate and the number of traffic channel connections.
