  • Patent number: 5831679
Abstract: Signal processors for permitting the transparent, simultaneous transmission and reception of a volume of information in the video bandwidth is disclosed. The volume of data is selected in response to receiving a signal at a transmitter site. The signal processor in the transmitter rasterizes the volume of information at the horizontal scanning rate and modulates the volume of information with a data carrier at a non-integral multiple of the horizontal scanning rate to provide a frequency interleaved combined signal. The combined signal is transmitted during the active video portion of each video line.

  • Patent number: 5831685
Abstract: A method and apparatus used in the field of image compositing which eliminates the need to obtain an original clear frame of the backing during production, by synthesizing during post production a clear frame of the backing from a frame of the foreground scene that includes the subject as well as the backing. This synthetic clear frame eliminates the problems of obtaining a registered clear frame during production, and thereby permits the ready application of nonuniformity correction to image compositing in both motion pictures and graphic arts. The invention is also directed to a method and apparatus used in the field of image compositing which reduces the processing time for developing the inhibit signal that prevents the corrections from being applied to the subject, the control signal E.sub.c, and a number of other functions that are computed from the colored backing.

  • Patent number: 5831687
Abstract: In a color video signal processing method, color difference component signals are converted into RGB component signals by a digital to digital conversion so as to reduce a size of a processing unit used for the conversion. An analog composite signal is converted into analog color difference component signals. The analog color difference component signals are then converted into digital color difference component signals. The digital color difference component signals are converted into digital RGB component signals by a digital to digital conversion based on an approximation method. Finally, the digital RGB component signals are converted into analog RGB component signals. The digital-to-digital conversion may be performed in accordance with equations in which each factor is a fractional number having a denominator of a power of 2.

  • Patent number: 5828407
Abstract: In a method of controlling an image sensing device which can be operated in two different modes, namely a field mode and a frame mode, in a frame mode, a potential of a substrate of the image sensing device and an intermediate voltage of pulses to be applied to a vertical transfer unit are set to potentials which are lower than those in the field mode, first. Then, by changing the potential of the substrate and the intermediate voltage to the same potentials as in the field mode during reading out the first field of the image sensing device, a dynamic range which is as wide as that in the field mode and a charge transfer efficiency which is as well as that achieved in the field mode are realized.

  • Patent number: 5822001
Abstract: A cassette eject mechanism for a recording or reproducing apparatus can remove a cassette eject button from a housing and can reliably eject a tape cassette only when a tape cassette should be loaded or unloaded. A battery loading mechanism for an electronic equipment can make the loading of battery simple and reliable, and becomes easy to handle. The locking mechanism can be simplified in structure so that the number of assembly parts can considerably be reduced. Further, a mechanical chassis supporting mechanism in a recording apparatus is for use with an apparatus in which a mechanical chassis or cabinet can be reduced in thickness. According to this mechanical chassis supporting mechanism, it is possible to prevent an external stress from being applied to the mechanical chassis as a twisting deform force.

  • Patent number: 5818544
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for detecting when a carrier signal and a symbol timing have been recovered for a demodulated signal corresponding to a received signal. The apparatus contains an estimating circuit and a detection signal generation circuit. The estimating circuit calculates an average value of the demodulated signal and outputs an estimation value which corresponds to the average value. The generation circuit detects when the carrier signal and the symbol timing of the demodulated signal have been recovered based on the estimation value and generates a corresponding recovery completion detection signal. Specifically, the generation circuit includes a carrier signal detection circuit and a symbol timing detection circuit. The carrier signal detection circuit determines that the carrier signal has been recovered when the estimation value exceeds a first threshold value, and the circuit generates a corresponding carrier recovery signal.

  • Patent number: 5818517
Abstract: A method and apparatus of reducing interference in a broadband radio frequency link is disclosed. Different signals are received by two antenna elements, in a first case the signals comprise differently polarized signals at the same or an offset frequency; in a second case the signals comprise a wanted signal and an interference signal, wherein the interfering signal is treated as an independent channel. The method comprises the steps of receiving radio frequency signals on two independent paths, selecting a portion of the radio frequency signal in each receive path or the desired signal path after demodulation where a predetermined frequency or band of frequencies is known to be absent; measuring the signal power; determining weights in a feedback path; and applying the feedback control signals to an algorithm which determines the weight(s) applied to the wanted signal such that the signal power in the summed signal(s) due to the interfering signal is reduced or cancelled.

  • Patent number: 5818525
Abstract: A memory efficient system of storing color correction information for liquid crystal tuning filters when used with electronic imaging cameras to produce color images, which color correction information is stored with maximum possible gain to optimize accuracy preparatory to compression. The system bins the color correction image, for example, from a 4K.times.4K CCD sensor into a 500.times.500 or 1K.times.1K file, and then applies the JPEG and/or wavelet compression algorithm with a default configuration and/or a custom quantization table that emphasizes low frequency changes with more bits than high frequency changes with less bits. At the end of the compression, the compressed R, G, B files and an n-point correction executable algorithm are stored on floppy disk or CD ROM and are used to automatically take control of image enhancement when invoked by the photographer.

  • Patent number: 5818523
Abstract: White shading of an image signal is corrected by a white shading correction system which requires a small amount of memory. Rather than storing correction signals for an entire image frame for each possible condition of zoom lens position and iris opening degree, the present system stores correction signals for a single frame corresponding to a single condition where the zoom lens is at a medium position and the iris is at a medium opening degree. The present system also generates a set of correction factors corresponding to each possible condition of zoom lens position and iris opening degree. When the conditions of zoom lens position and iris opening change from their medium values, the correction signals used for correcting the image data picked up by the camera are modified by the appropriate correcting factor prior to performing correction of the picked-up image data.

  • Patent number: 5818519
Abstract: A surveillance camera mounting apparatus formed from a lightweight, elastically deformable material, such as foam plastic, for mounting a surveillance camera in a transparent enclosure of the type used on a building surface such as a ceiling or wall. The mounting apparatus comprises an elastically deformable body element which includes a camera-receiving opening for receiving and holding a surveillance camera therein. The resiliency of the body element enables a portion of the body element which surrounds the camera-receiving opening to elastically deform thereby permitting the camera-receiving opening to dilate to accommodate the surveillance camera. Due to its resiliency, the body element resists such deformation and the camera-receiving opening closes around the surveillance camera and conforms to the camera thereby holding the camera within the opening.

  • Patent number: 5818528
Abstract: A hand held label reader is capable of illuminating a label, capturing a digital image of two-dimensional information indicia on the label, and decoding the digital image to provide decoded output data to a terminal. The target label is illuminated by a low variation illuminator that includes a circular LED array mounted behind a plano-concave dispersing lens. The automatic electronic camera, which includes a CCD camera and control circuitry, uses three images to adjust the intensity of the digital image and store a properly exposed image of the label in video RAM. The intensity of the digital image is adjusted by controlling the video system gain via adjusting the CCD array's integration time, the gain of a video amplifier, and the gain provided by an analog-to-digital converter. The gain provided by the analog-digital-converter is adjusted to compensate for the attenuation of light through the camera's lens assembly. For the first image, the digital image is obtained using a default setting for the gain.
