  • Patent number: 3959835
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to an inflatable air mattress comprised of a plurality of longitudinal inflatable main tubes, adjacent to one another, and interconnected pneumatically by short lengths of hoses, transverse to the longitudinal axis of the main tubes. One valve assembly, used to inflate the entire apparatus, is fastened to one of the main tubes near the bottom of the mattress assembly. Each main tube has fastened to it, at each end thereof, a rubber-like annular ring, cemented within the inner surface of the tubes. A lightweight metallic solid rivet-shaped device has its shaft likewise cemented to the central hole in the rubber-like ring in such a fashion that the shaft end is closest to the center of each main tube. The rivet is adapted with a dome-like cap, at one end, which is external to the end of each main tube. The outermost circular edge of the dome-like cap is coincident with the circular edge corresponding to the outside diameter of the main tube, when inflated.

  • Patent number: 3958284
Abstract: The bed frame includes a pair of side rails, end rails and intermediate slats in coplanar relation. The slats and end rails are secured at opposite ends to the side rails by plates of the type having a plurality of teeth struck to project to one side thereof. Particularly, the plates are embedded on opposite sides of the joints formed between the ends of the slats and end rails on the one hand and the side rails on the other hand. A central support strip of sheet metal underlies the intermediate slats and its ends overlie the end rails. The central support is secured by plates of the foregoing type wherein the teeth pass through the strap and are embedded into the underlying wooden end rails. In one form hereof a corner plate is provided for joining the ends of the end rails to the ends of the side rails. The corner plate includes a sheet metal plate formed to provide channel shaped portions at opposite ends which extend at right angles to one another with inside and outside radii therebetween.

  • Patent number: 3956782
Abstract: A sheet of flexible material is folded and seamed into a contour mattress cover which lies flat for storage and may be formed as a continuous ribbon of detachable, end to end connected covers wound into a roll or may be individually interleafed in a pop up arrangement in a box or other dispenser. A flexible sheet comprising a fluid impervious, thermoplastic foundation layer laminated to an absorbent layer has its relatively longer opposite sides folded back onto its non-absorbent surface to form inwardly opening pockets. Longitudinally spaced, heat sealed, transverse seams, which are shaped to correspond to the opposite ends of the mattress, connect interfacing layers of the folded sheet for closing the ends of the pockets.

  • Patent number: 3955224
Abstract: A cushioned seat structure comprising a resiliently compressible foam cushion having a pair of channel formations opening through the bottom face of the cushion and extending upward for a distance into the cushion body but terminating short of the cushion top face, the channels extending widthwise of the cushion along lines parallel to and spaced rearward from the cushion front face, one channel being spaced about midway back and the other channel being spaced roughly three quarters rearward. Underlying the cushion is a rigid support platform having a pair of slots therethrough aligned with the cushion channels where they open through the cushion bottom face, the slots being substantially congruent with the channels openings. The cushion lower surface is adhesively secured to the platform upper surface to prevent relative slippage in order to keep the cushion material out of the slots. A depending skirt portion of the cushion surrounds and cushions the side edges of the platform.

  • Patent number: 3952373
Abstract: The invention is directed to a unitary bundling strap having a head end portion and a tail end portion and an elongated strap body portion therebetween. The strap body portion is fabricated with a plurality of teeth extending within the surface thereof and the head end portion is provided with an aperture to permit the strap to be transversely passed therethrough as the strap is drawn about a plurality of articles to be bundled. A selective portion of the head end portion is permitted to rotate in a first direction to permit the passage of the toothed portion of the strap body portion through the head end portion aperture and by the rotation of the head end portion a second opposite direction, as by the attempted withdrawal of the strap or by the tension applied by the bundle about which the strap is placed or the natural tendency of the head end portion due to its design the strap is brought into locking engagement.

  • Patent number: 3942202
Abstract: An air-support mattress comprises an elastomeric plate having upper and lower faces flanking a central neutral surface. This plate is formed with a network of passages which lie between the lower face and the neutral plane and are adapted to be connected to a source of fluid under pressure. The plate is further formed with an array of vents each extending from the passage across the surface and terminating at respective mouths at the upper surface. A pair of lips in each of the vents meet tangentially between the neutral surface and the passage so as normally to block air flow through the vents. When the upper surface of the mattress is rendered concave, however, these lips pull apart so as to allow a stream of air to flow from the vents and exert a supporting force on a body part depressing the mattress.

  • Patent number: 3940810
Abstract: The box spring and box spring structure include a versatile frame made at appreciably lesser expense than presently known frames of equal rigidity and light weight. End rails of rectangular cross section carry no springs and are arranged completely underneath and overlap the side rails at the frame corners. All the rails have upper surfaces planar throughout their widths, those of the end rails being in secured engagement with the lower wide faces of the side rails at the frame corners to dispense with braces. The cross slats are parallel to each other and spaced any desired distances apart, equal or unequal. The end slats which carry the end rows of springs are arranged in close proximity to the respective end rails and are spaced above the end rails while extending inwardly enough in width to locate said spring rows in the proper position for upholstering.
