  • Patent number: 6953028
Abstract: A liquified gas delivery system for a motorized platform includes a holding tank configured to receive liquified gas. A first conduit extends from a vapor holding portion of the tank to a valve device. A second conduit extends from a liquid holding portion of the tank to the valve device. Fluid coupled to the valve device is a vaporizer which is in communication with an engine. The valve device selectively withdraws either liquified gas or liquified gas vapor from the tank depending on the pressure within the vapor holding portion of the tank. Various configurations of the delivery system can be utilized for pressurizing the tank during operation.

  • Patent number: 6952640
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for operating an internal combustion engine assembly (1) which make possible a monitoring and, if required, correction of a quantity of an air system of the engine assembly (1). A physical quantity of the air system is computed from several input quantities with the aid of a physical model (5) of the air system of the internal combustion engine assembly (1). The at least one physical quantity is not an input quantity of the physical model (5). The at least one physical quantity, which is computed by means of the physical model (5), is compared to a measured value for the at least one physical quantity. One of the input quantities or a model internal quantity of the physical model (5) is monitored in dependence upon a deviation between the computed value and the measured value for the at least one physical quantity.

  • Patent number: 6951207
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus reduces the fuel vaporization and leakage by means that the positions of vaporization and leakage and their amount in the fuel tank and the fuel pipe is detected properly in case of using a low boiling point fuel having a vapor phase in the normal temperatures and atmospheric pressures, and the fuel state is controlled based on those detected values. By providing another container made of elastomatic material having an expandable mechanical characteristic inside the fuel storing container, the low boiling point fuel is stored in the separate container. A flow rate controlling apparatus heats and cools the fuel pipe leading the low boiling point fuel stored in the fuel storing container to the engine. A flow rate controlling apparatus adjusts the flow rate of the fuel in the fuel pipe for leading the low boiling point fuel stored in the fuel storing container to the engine.

  • Patent number: 6947832
Abstract: Fault monitor (20) for error input (ICPC—ERR) to closed-loop control (16) of an engine function, such as a control pressure for a fuel system (12). Error input is derived from the desired and actual data values for the function. An integration function integrates the absolute value of the input data value (22, 24, 26, 28) during a time interval defined by a timing function (38, 40, 42, 44) to provide an integrated data value. A comparison function (34) compares the integrated data value and a data value ICPC—OBD—ERR defining a fault indication.

  • Patent number: 6947827
Abstract: An engine 1 is stopped according to conditions when a vehicle has stopped, and the engine 1 is started by starting a motor/generator 2 when a request to restart the engine 1 which has stopped, is determined. Engine torque is absorbed by the motor/generator 2 so that that the starting torque according to an accelerator pedal depression after restart, is effectively the same torque for starting from the engine stop state as for starting from the engine idle state. In this way, the same starting performance is obtained when the vehicle starts from the engine stop state as when the vehicle starts from the engine idle rotation state.

  • Patent number: 6945220
Abstract: A starting device for an internal combustion engine is capable of increasing starting torque as well as supplying air to a cylinder that is on the expansion stroke without separately providing a means for supplying high-pressure air. Communication control valves control the states of communication between cylinders of the engine. A crank angle detector detects the crank angle of a crankshaft of the engine. A compression/expansion identification part identifies the compression stroke or the expansion stroke of each cylinder. Fuel is injected into a cylinder on the expansion stroke and ignited therein, and the expansion stroke cylinder is placed in communication with a cylinder on the exhaust stroke by a communication state control part for a prescribed time after the ignition thereof, after which the expansion stroke cylinder is further placed in communication with a cylinder on the compression stroke for a prescribed time.

  • Patent number: 6941926
Abstract: There is disclosed herein an improved air and fuel intake system for a high performance internal combustion engine for installing on a supercharger or the intake manifold of the engine. The air intake system is attached to the mounting surface of the supercharger or intake manifold such that the plurality of separate air passages of the intake system ensure the uniform distribution of intake air to all parts of the supercharger or intake manifold. Each air passage has a decreasing cross-sectional area along the direction of air flow to increase the velocity of the intake air. The air intake system includes a forwardly disposed air inlet, which faces in the direction of travel of a vehicle powered by the engine. The air passages are controlled by butterfly air valves in the air inlet.

  • Patent number: 6932042
Abstract: A pinion gear of a starter is engaged with a ring gear of an internal combustion engine by restricting rotation of the pinion gear while driving a motor at a low speed. After the engagement is established, the motor is driven at a full speed by supplying a full current, thereby cranking up the engine. A crank bar for transferring movement of a plunger in a magnetic switch to a pinion-rotation-restricting member is divided into two or three portions. After the divided portions are assembled to the starter, they are connected together to form a solid piece. In this manner, a process of assembling the crank bar into the starter is simplified.

  • Patent number: 6929638
Abstract: An orientation system and method for corrective eye surgery includes a camera for performing a first image mapping of a patient's eye using a predetermined eye feature and software for processing the first image map to determine an edge location of the feature. A second image mapping of the eye is performed with the patient in a different position. The second image map is processed to locate the predetermined eye feature. Correlation of the mappings is used to calculate an orientational change of the eye between the two positions. This procedure may also be performed at different times during surgery to permit “real-time” data on orientational changes undergone by the eye to be collected. In both cases the data are used to calculate an adjustment to be applied to a corrective prescription for application by the surgical procedure.

  • Patent number: 6928361
Abstract: A control apparatus for a motor vehicle is provided in which each of a plurality of output values of the vehicle varies depending upon a plurality of input control parameters for controlling the vehicle. The control apparatus changes the input control parameter or parameters so that each of the output values becomes substantially equal to a corresponding target output value. The control apparatus then determines adapted values of the input control parameters, based on values of the input control parameters obtained when each of the output values becomes substantially equal to the corresponding target output value or falls within a permissible adaptation range of the target output value.
