Abstract: A sidebar UI of an application program provides access to the application program's functionality while occupying a reduced amount of real estate on the screen when compared to conventional UIs. The sidebar UI comprises an icon or multiple icons, and each icon references a pane that provides its user the ability to access and utilize a function and/or feature of the application program. Selecting an icon in the sidebar UI causes the referenced pane which provides access to, for example, a feature of the application program to be displayed on the screen. “Clicking off” the pane causes the pane to close.

Abstract: A heat map carousel displays health and status information for an electro-mechanical system using a set of heat maps rendered in a carousel view. The set includes a plurality of sub-systems, each sub-system including one or more instances of hardware components from different categories or sub-categories. A heat map is more prominently displayed as a focus heat map. Health and status information for different instances of hardware components is organized within a heat map either by category/sub-category and instance or by location. Attribute values are mapped to a color indicative of health and status of the instance. In response to an operator input, the carousel is rotated to display a different heat map as the focus heat map. In response to operator selection of a cell in the focus heat map, health and status information for that cell is displayed.

Abstract: Example systems and methods of managing a user interface are described. In one implementation, a method displays a user interface for an application, the application has a plurality of fields is described. A user selection of a field of the plurality of fields is detected via a touch-sensitive screen. A user input indicating a new position of the selected field is received. The other fields affected by the new position are identified and repositioned based on the new position of the selected field. The plurality of fields has a set of data associated with them. A user activation of a field editing operation is detected. An editing command from the user is received via a touch-sensitive screen. The editing command is implemented with respect to at least one field, and the user interface is updated. The updated user interface is displayed with the set of data.

Abstract: User interface animation techniques are described. In an implementation, an input having a velocity is detected that is directed to one or more objects in a user interface. A visual presentation is generated that is animated so a first object in the user interface moves in parallax with respect to a second object. The presentation is displayed so the first object appears to moves at a rate that corresponds to the velocity.

Abstract: Enabling users to select a subset of elements represented by a rendered topology view, and in response, a new view comprising the selected elements is automatically created. Preferred embodiments render this subset view, referred to herein as a “tear-away view”, alongside the topology view from which the elements were selected, thereby enabling the user to focus on the selected elements in context of the bigger picture. An active correlation is preferably maintained between the views, such that various updates to one view are also reflected in the other view. Preferred embodiments automatically create a new data model underlying the tear-away view, and in one aspect, this data model and/or tear-away view may be persisted.

Abstract: Elements of a graphical user interface, such as a virtual keypad, can have display characteristics adjusted based upon aspects such as a relative hand or finger position of a user. In one example, the transparency of a keypad used to enter text on a portable computing device can be adjusted based on the distance of a user's hand, such that the user can still view content displayed through the interface. A user can also select elements, such as text fields for text entry, by adjusting a relative position of the user's hand and performing a selection gesture or other such action. Various types of functionality can be activated in response to a selection gesture, such as to display a keypad of an appropriate transparency.

Abstract: Systems and methods for central management and control of user-contributed content in a web-based collaboration environment are disclosed. In one aspect, embodiments of the present disclosure include a method, which may be implemented on a system, for enabling an administrative user in an enterprise setting to centrally manage and control content provided by other users of the enterprise in a web-based collaboration environment. In one embodiment, a view providing access to an aggregate of the content or a selection thereof provided by the other users is depicted in a user interface for the administrative user to access the web-based collaboration environment. The user interface for the administrative user includes both of a management console to access the content provided by other users and a panel for accessing an account of the user and work items owned by the administrative user.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements to manage transparent windows are described herein. Embodiments may comprise logic such as hardware and/or code to select one or more windows to make transparent and to switching the active window between source and target windows via the position of the mouse. Many embodiments provide a right click, pop-up menu (i.e., pressing the right mouse button generates a pop-up menu), a pull-down menu, or a button associated with windows. These features may allow a user to select individual or all windows to be transparent. A transparent window provides some view of windows or objects below the transparent window while providing some view of the contents such as graphics and/or text in the transparent window. Embodiments may also include management logic such as hardware and/or code to facilitate selection of a transparent window to make the window active.

Abstract: Example embodiments relate to provision of an online catalog of files. In example embodiments, a computing device may display an online catalog that identifies files available for download. The computing device may also output a corresponding user interface element for each file and set each user interface element to an initial state. Upon selection of a first file for download, the computing device may modify the user interface element for that file to a downloading state to indicate a status of the download while continuing to display the online catalog. Subsequently, upon selection of a second file for download, the computing device may modify the user interface element for the second file to the downloading state, such that the computing device may concurrently download multiple files.

Abstract: A state client is configured to allow a user to specify a meeting-specific state, such as that the user is running late for a meeting, checked in to the meeting, or unable to attend the meeting. A state service stores data identifying the user's meeting-specific state. The state service also responds to requests for the state of the user. In one implementation, when such a request is received, the state service determines whether the user is an invitee to the same meeting as the user requesting the state. If not, the state service returns a general-purpose state indicator for the user. If both users are invitees to the same meeting, the state service returns the meeting-specific state indicator, which may then be displayed by a state client.

Abstract: A system and methodology for visually representing user activity associated with an information resource is described. User activities are associated with symbolic representations of those user activities. To visually convey selected aspects of the user activity, the activity is mapped to visual attributes that alter the appearance of the symbolic representation. The result is a dynamic and universal representation of user activities that aide online users to efficiently discern the relevancy and popularity of an information resource.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes: an operation section; and a control section adapted to cause, when dragging is carried out through the operation section, a cursor interconnecting a start point and an end point of the dragging to be displayed on a display section in response to the dragging and execute, where a direction from one end portion of the cursor which is a start point side of the dragging to the other end portion of the cursor which is an end point side of the dragging is determined as a direction of the cursor, a process corresponding to the direction of the cursor for information displayed on the display section; the control section changing the information to be displayed on the display section when the other end portion of the cursor enters a predetermined region set on the screen by the dragging.

Abstract: Data elements are extracted from data elements stored in a storage medium in accordance with two conditions and grouped into first and second groups. The data elements in the first group and those in the second group are displayed in regions distinguished from each other on a screen. In response to user manipulation, the screen is switched to a screen that allows searching data elements in the first or second group displayed in a region corresponding to the manipulation. In searching many diverse data elements stored in a data storage, the user can select a group from groups of data elements extracted by different conditions and search the data elements in the selected group. Accordingly, the user can search data elements more readily even when many diverse data elements are stored in the storage medium.

Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) presents a primary icon in a minimal visual area of a video display screen of a computer. Selecting the primary icon directs the computer to display a line of segments, where each segment associated with one or more software programs or electronic documents. The GUI allows a user to directly access items of visual and/or audio media by selecting one or more documents or software programs associated with a selected segment. The GUI optionally allows selected a line or segment for transmission from the computer to another computer, wherein copies one or more documents or software applications are transmitted to the second computer.

Abstract: A method is disclosed. A graphical representation is displayed of a network map of a network. A context indication is received for a network information specification for a first network segment of the network displayed on the graphical representation of the network map of the network. A first information is displayed on the graphical representation for the first network segment in response to the context indication. An action indication is received for a network management specification for the first network segment based at least in part on an interaction with the graphical representation of the network. The first network segment is modified based at least in part on the network management specification in response to the action indication.

Abstract: A window management method, apparatus and a computing device are provided. The window management apparatus comprises a window rendering management device for managing the at least two windows in response to an input operation, to change the size and location of a target window of the at least two windows to which the input operation is directed, and simultaneously adaptively change the size and location of at least one other window of the at least two windows. With the embodiments of the present invention, upon detection of an input operation, a window control operation can be performed on at least two opened windows to change the sizes and locations of at least two opened windows simultaneously. In this way, a plurality of windows can be managed collectively by fewer operations, and the required numbers of user operations can be reduced.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for populating an electronic clinical document capable of receiving multiple types of data are provided. In one embodiment, dictation audio input is embedded directly into one or more sections of an electronic clinical document along with other data types, such as structured user input, free-text input, or system-generated input. An electronic clinical document having embedded dictation audio and other data types can receive transcribed text corresponding to the embedded dictation audio.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium, including a method comprising: receiving a content item request from a resource, the resource associated with a resource sponsor; verifying the content item request including filtering out spam requests and determining if the content item request is valid; for any invalid requests, providing a content item in response to the content item request that is in conformance with an existing definition provided by the resource sponsor; and presenting information related to invalid requests to the resource sponsor in a user interface, the user interface including tools for enabling the resource sponsor to automatically accept and validate a content item request so that subsequent requests of the same type are validated upon receipt.

Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, a method of browsing and displaying items from a collection is provided. Information about each of plurality of items in a collection is stored. A plurality of user-entered tags is obtained. Each tag comprises a term associated with one or more of the items in the collection. The tags are stored in machine-readable storage media. An image that is representative of an item is displayed on a display screen along with images that are representative of each of a plurality of associated tags. In response to a user selecting a particular one of the displayed tags, an image representing the selected tag is displayed along with a plurality of images that are representative of items associated with the selected tag. In response to the user selecting a particular one of the displayed items, an image that is representative of the selected item can be displayed along with a plurality of images that are representative of tags associated with the selected item.
