  • Patent number: 7418232
Abstract: The ADF 11 is a device for feeding an original document toward an original document scanning position R, comprising an original document loading unit 31, paper feeding roller 51, pressure sensor 33 and lift plate drive unit 35. The original document loading unit 31 comprises a lift plate 41 allowing an original document to be loaded and vertically movable in an original document loading direction. The paper feeding roller 51 is disposed above the lift plate 41 disposed at the lowermost position with an interval therebetween, and is capable of moving upwardly in coordination with a force received from below from the lift plate 41. The pressure sensor 33 is capable of detecting upward pressure on the paper feeding roller 51. The lift plate drive unit 35 causes the lift plate 41 to be lowered upon detection of upward pressure on the paper feeding roller 51.

  • Patent number: 7418234
Abstract: A discharge unit is disposed downstream of a principal transport path of a compound machine, and a shifter function is provided in this discharge unit. By shifting the paper passage position relative to a photosensitive drum when printing the front side and the paper passage position relative to the photosensitive drum when printing the back side, the region in which the surface electric potential of the photosensitive drum increases is diminished, and the region in which photographic fog is generated is made smaller. Thus, when printing the second and subsequent sheets, even when a slight amount of displacement of the transport position of the recording paper occurs, it is possible to suppress that recording paper making contact in the photographic fog region on the photosensitive drum, and defective printing can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 7409184
Abstract: When an original document is placed on the lift tray, a timer is reset and starts counting a predetermined time (S12). Whether an alignment device is moved to adjust the original documents loaded on the lift tray in, for example, the widthwise direction transverse to the transportation direction is then determined (S13). If a change in the detected width of the original documents is detected (S13 returns Yes), control returns to S12 and the timer is reset and started again (S12). If there is no change in the detected width of the original documents in S13, control waits for the timer set in S12 to time out (S14). If the timer reaches the predetermined time set in S12 (S15 returns Yes), the lift tray is driven up by the lift motor (S16) and rises until the top limit sensor turns on (S17).

  • Patent number: 7403721
Abstract: An image forming apparatus according to the invention includes a scanner for reading an image, a printer for fixing an image formed thereby on paper and discharging the paper, a display for displaying information, and a controller for controlling the scanner, the printer, and the display. The controller is configured to execute control such that jam removal guidance in accordance with an operation of a user is displayed on the display when the operation of the user in an attempt to remove a jam that has occurred in the printer is different from an order displayed on the display. In the image forming apparatus according to the invention, even when the user does not execute the jam removal operation according to the displayed guidance, guidance will be displayed in accordance with the state of the apparatus after the execution of the operation.

  • Patent number: 7398048
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including: a first driven roller that forms a first nip portion with a driving roller; a second driven roller that forms a second nip portion with the driving roller at a downstream side of the first nip portion; a first transfer passage into which the sheet passed through the first nip portion and sent from the second nip portion is transferred by a forward rotation of the driving roller; a second transfer passage into which the sheet passed through the first nip portion is transferred by the forward rotation of the driving roller without passing through the second nip portion; and a third transfer passage into which the sheet is transferred by a reverse rotation of the driving roller after a rear end of the sheet has passed through the first nip portion by the forward rotation of the driving roller.

  • Patent number: 7379701
Abstract: A sheet cassette (1) according to the present invention has a double structure portion (10) including an upper plate (11) and a lower plate (12). The lower plate (12) has a first guide groove (13) elongated widthwise of a sheet to be contained in the cassette and having a plurality of inch-based size engagement recesses (17) and a plurality of centimeter-based size engagement recesses arranged longitudinally thereof. The upper plate (11) is movable along the lower plate (12) widthwise of the sheet to be contained in the cassette. The inch-based size engagement recesses (17) are effectuated by locating the upper plate (11) at a first position, and the centimeter-based size engagement recesses are effectuated by locating the upper plate (11) at a second position. The sheet cassette (1) further has a width limiting plate slidable widthwise of the sheet to be contained in the cassette according to the width of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 7379703
Abstract: A plurality of helical groove sections are provided on outer peripheral surfaces of press rollers provided in a curl elimination mechanism. Each of the groove sections assumes a shape extending in the circumferential direction of the respective press rollers; that is, a direction oblique to a transport direction of paper. Hence, when compared with a case where the groove sections are aligned in the transport direction of the paper, the paper is less susceptible to traces of the groove sections. Since the groove sections are provided on the press rollers, an attempt can be made to enhance dimensional accuracy of or reduce the weight of the press rollers.

  • Patent number: 7376364
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a sheet feeding cassette, transport rollers, a pick-up roller, a sheet detector, and a control section. The sheet feeding cassette stores sheets for developer images to be transferred thereonto at a secondary transfer position. The transport rollers transport a sheet at variable speeds along a sheet transport path which extends from the cassette to the secondary transfer position. The pick-up roller feeds a sheet into the sheet transport path. The sheet detector detects whether a sheet is fed from the cassette. When the detector detects that a sheet is not fed, the control section controls the pick-up roller to feed the sheet again. The control section varies respective transport speeds of the pick-up roller, a sheet feed roller, and the transport rollers, according to number of attempts to feed the sheet.
