  • Patent number: 9565434
Abstract: At least one mode signaling syntax element is provided based on an encoded representation of a picture in a video sequence. The at least one mode signaling syntax element is employed to determine whether at least one final reference picture list is the same for all slices of a same slice type in the picture. The at least one mode signaling syntax element thereby signals to a decoder that it does not necessarily have to repeat computationally complex reference picture list construction functions for each slice in the picture.

  • Patent number: 9557007
Abstract: An imaging system, safety system or combined imaging and safety system includes a light transmitter and a corresponding receiver. Image data relating to a machine tool and/or workpiece is derived and processed to determine information regarding the tool and/or tool position and/or extent of work carried out on the workpiece. A screen, such as a shadow screen, can be used to form an image of a profile of the tool tip and end of the workpiece. Tool tip position and extent of work on the workpiece can be derived from the image. Certain aspects are directed to a safety system application for halting a machine or tool when a light beam is interrupted, and can provide progressive muting of beam interruption detection, such as by systematically disregarding or muting signals from rows of receiver array elements as the beam passes through a mute point ahead of a tool.

  • Patent number: 9554204
Abstract: Even if an external output device like an earphone is disconnected during outputting of reproduced recorded contents, the recorded contents can be consecutively output at the time of subsequent reproduction. When an earphone connection detector detects that an earphone is disconnected during the reproduction operation of reproducing and outputting audio and image information in a recording section with the earphone being connected, a CPU performs control in such a manner as to stop the reproduction operation. When the earphone connection detector detects that the earphone is connected while the reproduction operation is stopped, the CPU resumes reproducing the audio and image information in the recording section at the stop position.

  • Patent number: 9538038
Abstract: Techniques are provided to implement line based processing of thermal images and a flexible memory system. In one example, individual lines of a thermal image frame may be provided to an image processing pipeline. Image processing operations may be performed on the individual lines in stages of the image processing pipeline. A memory system may be used to buffer the individual lines in the pipeline stages. In another example, a memory system may be used to send and receive data between various components without relying on a single shared bus. Data transfers may be performed between different components and different memories of the memory system using a switch fabric to route data over different buses. In another example, a memory system may support data transfers using different clocks of various components, without requiring the components and the memory system to all be synchronized to the same clock source.

Abstract: A video coder can determine a most probable mode for a block of video data using non-square partitions based on the direction of the non-square partitions. When the direction of the non-square partitions is vertical, an intra prediction mode of a left-neighboring block can be selected as the most probable intra prediction mode, and when the direction of the non-square partitions is horizontal, an intra prediction mode of an above-neighboring block can be selected as the most probable intra prediction mode.

  • Patent number: 9532072
Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for determining a context model for entropy encoding and decoding of a transformation coefficient. According to the method and apparatus, a context set index ctxset is obtained based on color component information of a transformation unit, a location of a current subset, and whether there is a significant transformation coefficient having a value greater than a first critical value in a previous subset, and a context offset c1 is obtained based on a length of a previous transformation coefficient having consecutive 1s. Also, a context index ctxids for entropy encoding and decoding of a first critical value flag is determined based on the obtained context set index and the context offset.

  • Patent number: 9525872
Abstract: This disclosure describes video encoding and decoding techniques in which a first order prediction process and a second order prediction process are used in combination to generate predictive video blocks for video coding. First order prediction may be similar to conventional motion estimation and motion compensation that generates residual video blocks. The second order prediction may involve a process similar to conventional intra-prediction, but is performed on the residual video blocks. The techniques of this disclosure may pre-define the second order prediction to a specific mode, such as a mode similar to the intra-DC mode used in intra coding. In addition, the techniques of this disclosure may combine aspects of the first order and second order prediction into a single process so that the effects of second order prediction on the residuals are taken into account during the first order prediction process, which may improve compression.

  • Patent number: 9521321
Abstract: A user activation of an image capture function of a mobile device is received. The image capture function is for a surround image mode. Two or more camera lenses are approximately concurrently activated. A front-side image from a first camera lens and a rear-side image from a second camera lens can be optically captured. A second front-side image from the first camera lens and a second rear-side image from the second camera lens can be optically captured responsive to a manual pan/tilt/zoom operation of the front-side or rear-side lense. Content from the front-side images and content from the rear-side images are recorded in a non-transitory storage medium of the mobile device within a single file for a surround mode image.
