  • Patent number: 8307426
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for controlling the use of processing algorithms, and applications thereof. In an embodiment, authorization to use an algorithm is validated in a system having a processor capable of executing user defined instructions, by executing a user defined instruction that writes a first value to a first storage of a user defined instruction block, uses the first value to transform a second value located in a second storage of the user defined instruction block, and compares the transformed second value to a third value located in a third storage. Use of the algorithm is permitted only if the comparison of the transformed second value to the third value indicates that use of the algorithm is authorized. In another embodiment, authorization to use an at least partially decrypted algorithm is validated via a key for enablement.

  • Patent number: 8285998
Abstract: Regularity information such as time codes embedded preliminarily through an electronic watermark is detected from a predetermined number of pieces of continuous frame data of video content through the electronic watermark. In the case where the electronic watermark is not detected from the predetermined number of pieces of continuous frame data, a non-detection count is calculated, and falsification of the predetermined number of pieces of frame data is determined on the basis of the detected regularity information and the non-detection count. Accordingly, falsification such as deletion, addition, and replacement of video content is detected with high accuracy using the electronic watermark.

  • Patent number: 8276191
Abstract: A method and system for generating authorization settings that indicate whether host administrators using a host-based storage-management application are authorized to perform provisioning operations on data storage entities residing on a data storage system are disclosed. Accordingly, a storage-management application receives from an administrator an authorization setting indicating on a per-user basis a set of provisioning operations which can be performed with a data storage entity via the storage-management application. The authorization settings are then communicated from the host-based storage-management application to the storage system where the data storage entity resides, and the authorization settings are stored. A storage-management application executing on any host can then utilize the authorization settings to control which users are allowed to interact with certain data storage entities, and what specific interactions (e.g., provisioning operations) are allowed.

  • Patent number: 8250626
Abstract: The present invention provides a way to secure data accessed by a software package pre-loaded on a computer system (for delivery to a customer). Specifically, under the present invention, customer data is loaded on a computer system along with any software package(s) that access the customer data prior to shipping the computer system to the customer. Also prior to shipping, a set (e.g., one or more) of passwords for accessing the data such as an administrative password and a hard disk password are set. After the computer system is shipped to the customer, confirmation of proper delivery will be sought. Once this confirmation is received, an access code such as a key or the set of passwords themselves will be shipped to the customer to unlock and use the data.

  • Patent number: 8234492
Abstract: Provided are a method, client and system for reservation access to a management server using a one-time password. A generated personal identification number (PIN) is transmitted to the management server when a reservation time comes. The management server generates a random number encrypted using the PIN and transmits the random number to the client. The random number encrypted using the PIN is received, the received random number is encrypted by a symmetric-key algorithm using a client secret key and is transmitted to the management server. The management server receives the random number encrypted using the client secret key, and decrypts the received random number using a server secret key and the PIN. A random number before the encryption using the PIN is compared with a decrypted random number, and access of the client is accepted if the two numbers are identical.

  • Patent number: 8229000
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for enabling inhibition or reduction in the amount of processing to decode and to re-encode image data to be compatible with a transmission capacity upon delivery of converted images. Image data converter 205 converts and transfers an image of a conversion start frame in an intra-mode. Switch 206 transfers the image in the intra-mode, which was transferred by image data converter 205, as the conversion start frame, and transfers image data 103 demultiplexed from received data 100 for the remaining frames. Data synchronization/output unit 208 establishes the synchronization of image with audio by temporally adjusting audio data backward when the converted image data increases in size.

  • Patent number: 8225109
Abstract: An apparatus and method for securing a baseline backup are disclosed. As part of an incremental backup process, a selected set of file system data, including directories and files, are identified. The selected set of file system data are compressed, and then encrypted. Based on the encrypted and compressed file system data, a data digest is generated that uniquely identifies the encrypted and compressed file system data. The compressed and encrypted file system data are written to a portable storage device along with the data digest, thereby enabling the safe, manual transport of the file system data to a secondary, or backup, computer system (e.g., at a remote data center).

  • Patent number: 8219823
Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems for and methods of controlling access to computer systems. A method in accordance with the present invention comprises performing a test that includes comparing input responses to randomly selected questions with corresponding pre-determined responses to the questions and granting access to the system in the event the test is passed. A first condition of passing the test is that each input response matches a corresponding pre-determined response. Once passing the test, the user is granted permissions to access data based on his position. For example, a corporate director generally has greater permissions than an engineer. Preferably, the user's permissions determine an encryption key and a decryption key that the user is able to use to access protected data.

  • Patent number: 8213616
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing opportunistic security for physical communication channels are disclosed. One disclosed method is for opportunistic secure communication on a main channel between a sender device and a receiver device when an eavesdropper device is listening on an eavesdropper channel. This example method includes transmitting, in a first time period in which signal quality on the main channel is better than signal quality on the eavesdropper channel, symbols that are randomly selected from a set of symbols. The method also includes transmitting, in a second time period in which signal quality on the main channel is not better than signal quality on the eavesdropper channel, coding information associated with the randomly selected symbols. The method also includes reconciling the randomly selected symbols using the coding information.

  • Patent number: 8214646
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for modifying a signed bundle and verifying the modified bundle are disclosed. A signed bundle may be modified by removing a file specified in a server file list from a plurality of files in the bundle. The signed bundle comprises a catalog of files in the signed bundle and their associated hashes. The modified bundle includes the remaining files of the signed bundle that are not specified in the server file list and the catalog file of the signed bundle, the catalog signature of the signed bundle. The modified bundle may be verified by verifying the catalog signature of the modified signed bundle, and checking that the files specified in the catalog are either in the modified signed bundle or specified in the server file list. The hashes of the files in the modified signed bundle may also be checked to verify the modified signed bundle.

  • Patent number: 8213503
Abstract: Techniques and tools for skip modes in encoding and decoding of inter-layer residual video are described. For example, an encoder encodes multiple macroblocks of a picture of inter-layer residual video. For a current macroblock that is skipped, the encoder selects a skip mode from among multiple available skip modes and uses the selected skip mode when encoding the current macroblock. The skip modes can include intra skip mode and predicted-motion skip mode. A corresponding decoder, for the current macroblock, selects and uses the skip mode for the current macroblock during decoding. As another example, an encoder encodes multiple channels of a picture of inter-layer residual video. For each channel, the encoder determines whether to skip the channel. The encoder signals channel skip information to indicate which channels are skipped. A corresponding decoder parses the channel skip information and determines on a channel-by-channel basis whether to skip the respective channels.
