    Abstract: A receiver method and apparatus provides a more efficient computation and application of optimal filters. Range and Doppler processing in the receiver are decoupled and, as a result, computational complexity required for both filter computation and filtering stages are significantly reduced. In one embodiment, a response to an emitted signal is demodulated and sampled to provide baseband samples. The response includes a component due to interaction of the emitted signal with a target, The baseband samples are filtered in a bank of N parallel range filters to provide N filter outputs for each of the baseband samples. For one or more Doppler phase shifts ?, a discrete Fourier transform of the N filter outputs is computed to produce Doppler components that may be analyzed to determine at least one of a presence, range and speed of the target.

    Abstract: Surgical articles, such as sponges, are provided in a pack which contains individual surgical articles having UHF RFID or other electronic labels which provide both (a) unique identification information for each article as well as (b) unique identification information for all articles in the pack. Prior to the surgical procedure, the labels are scanned and the identification information for all articles in the pack uploaded to a processor to create a list of available individual surgical articles. At the end of the surgical procedure, the surgical articles are collected and the electronic labels read and compared to the initial list to determine if there are any unaccounted individual surgical articles. The UHF RFID tag may then be used to determine a location of the unaccounted article outside the patient's body.

A parking controller is coupled to the cameras, a display panel, navigation system, and speed sensor. When the parking controller detects that the geographic location of the vehicle coincides with a parking zone then the parking controller 1) examines the ground images to recognize a pair of edge boundaries of a parking spot, 2) calculates a proportion of an intersection length of the vehicle contained within the boundaries to a full length of the vehicle, and 3) displays the calculated proportion as a percentage on the display panel.
