  • Patent number: 6222150
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for joining two metal members into a joined metal member. The method comprise steps of; applying a brazing material having a higher melting point than both the members on the surface of a first metal member and heating them to form a brazing material on said surface and a braze-diffusion layer under the brazing material in the surface area of the first member; and, then, pressing the first and another second metal members between which the brazing material is interposed during heating at a higher temperature than said melting point of the brazing material to squeeze the molten brazing material out between both the contact surfaces of both the metal members, therefor the two metal members being joined by the braze diffusion layers formed in both the surfaces into the joined metal member.

  • Patent number: 6172334
Abstract: Welding device to enable a welder to maintain an upright position when welding at floor level. The device is a rigid handle having a pistol-type handgrip and telescoping tubes. The telescoping tubes can be easily adjusted and interlocked, thus providing a handle that is adjustable to a plurality of lengths. The handgrip is angled approximately 90° to the longitudinal axis of the handle and provides for a comfortable and secure grip. The electrode holder used in the welding process can be releasably attached to the distal end of the device. In the Preferred Embodiment, the telescoping tubes and handgrip are hollow, so that a power cable can be fed through the device and connected to the electrode holder. Mounted on the device is a welding shield made of welder's glass, that shields the welder's eyes from the welding flame and protects the welder from sparks arising from the welding site, thus eliminating the need on the part of the welder to wear a welding hood with mask.

  • Patent number: 6137076
Abstract: A welding material supply mechanism for providing a welding bead on a surface comprising: a first hollow arm, a transfer tube, a second hollow arm, swivel bearing and a welding nozzle. The first hollow arm is connected to the second hollow arm by a swivel bearing, and a remote end of the second hollow arm supports a nozzle for facilitating welding on a surface. The swivel bearing facilitates pivoting movement of the second hollow arm relative to the first hollow arm to adjust a diameter of the welding bead to be formed on the surface, and a locking coupler facilitates locking the pivoted and adjusted position of the first hollow arm relative to the second hollow arm. The transfer tube is at least partially received within the first hollow arm and is concentric therewith. The transfer tube supports a female electrical connector coupled to the swivel bearing, the transfer tube establishes a welding electrical current path to the nozzle via the swivel bearing and the second hollow arm.

  • Patent number: 6133540
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for forming a punch retaining ball at the end of a wire to form a headed punch pin for making vias in greensheets comprising advancing the wire through a die, contacting the end of the wire with a movable electrode which forms the ball by completing an electrical circuit with the wire and the electrode, after which the wire is retracted so that the formed punch pin is restrained from movement by the die and is cut forming the punch pin. A formed punch pin collection device is also provided as is a defective punch pin removal device. After the formation and removal from the apparatus of a formed punch pin or a reject defective punch pin, the apparatus is moved to its starting position and again activated to advance the wire through the die and the above procedure repeated.

  • Patent number: 6127643
Abstract: A process, called Covered Trailing Edge of Weld (CTEW) that can be applied during fusion welding that produces a weld without cracks and porosity and reduced residual stress level, is described. The process eliminates or reduces the need of non-destructive testing, re-work and post weld heat treatments in weld manufacturing. It is known that in a normal unassisted solidification of a weld, numerous cooling gradients from solid-liquid interfaces come into effect, because of numerous and multi-directions of solid crystal faces that promote crystal growth in solidifying metal in different direction. Such micro cooling gradients in molten metal are in various directions also because of varying inclinations of the surface of the cup at each point where solid base of microstructure is exposed for crystal growth.

  • Patent number: 6124567
Abstract: The generator of an engine-driven welding machine is comprised of front and rear housings that attach directly to each other. The generator stator maybe secured solely to one or the other housing with preloaded screws. Alternately, one or more preload elements may be interposed between the stator and one of the front or rear generator housings. Thermal stresses are thereby avoided between the stator and the generator housings, despite the housings being made of aluminum and the stator being made of steel. The rear generator housing has an end wall that is mountable to different selected internal combustion engines by means of teardrop shaped clearance holes and machineable bosses. Slots for cooling air in the rear generator housing have sides with tangential components. Air leaves a fan in the generator with tangential components that are matched by the rear generator housing slots. The fan incorporates both fan blades and a baffle having a close clearance with an annular wall of the rear generator housing.

  • Patent number: 6116327
Abstract: A method of making a metal shape comprising the steps of supplying molten metal into a ceramic shell mould mounted in a container, spinning the container and the shell mould therein about an axis and permitting the metal to solidify in the shell mould and thereafter removing, for example by breaking, the shell mould to expose the metal shape. The ceramic shell moulds made by providing a pattern of flexible elastically deformable material of a required shape and supported on a mandrel, applying at least one coating of hardenable refractory material to said pattern to form a rigid shell and removing the mandrel from supporting relationship with the pattern and subsequently removing the pattern from the shell by elastically deforming the pattern. The pattern is made by moulding said material in a master mould of a required shape and removing the pattern from the master mould, after the pattern has set, by elastically deforming the pattern.
