  • Patent number: 7400584
Abstract: A cellular mobile radio network includes base stations, a packet control unit capable of communicating with a radio terminal via two or more base stations, and routing means for routing data between a remote unit and the packet control unit. The data transmitted by the remote unit to the terminal are stored temporarily in the packet control unit. The remote unit is adapted to receive from the terminal acknowledgments relating to transmitted data segments and to retransmit data segments that have not been acknowledged on the expiry of a retransmission time depending on the received acknowledgments. Data segments are transmitted from the remote unit to the terminal via a first base station connected to the packet control unit. In response to a request for communication transfer to a second base station connected to the packet control unit, only a portion of the data stored temporarily in the packet control unit is retransmitted to the terminal via the second base station.

  • Patent number: 7362750
Abstract: A switching module has external ports for sending and receiving data packets and mesh interfaces for internal mesh connections with other modules. A switching engine directs packets to one or other of the mesh interfaces according to the port number of a ‘destination’ or egress port on another module, as determined by a lookup. The port numbers are programmable so that the distribution of traffic through the mesh connections can be modified.

  • Patent number: 7349340
Abstract: Quality of Service (QoS) management in a service-based system may be provided by adaptively adjusting system operational parameters in response to real time relationships between QoS specifications and measurements. A QoS manager may include a measurement engine configured to acquire real time data that is specific to transaction instances of various transaction types. The manager also may include a controller for comparing transaction data from the measurement engine to the guaranteed QoS standards. Depending upon the results of the comparison, the controller may invoke control actions.

  • Patent number: 7349390
Abstract: The object is to prevent occurrence of packet loss in Cellular IP and a drop of TCP throughput due to duplication of packets. On the occasion of relaying a packet from correspondent, a relay router multicasts a router advertisement to access routers forming respective cells into which a target mobile terminal might move. The mobile terminal receives the router advertisements from the neighbor access routers, calculates a difference between reception times of the packets from the respective access routers, and specifies a relay router to perform multicasting. Then the mobile terminal transmits delay information of a delay to be added to each path in multicasting by the relay router, to the relay router thus specified. The relay router adds the delay to each path in multicasting on the basis of the delay information.

  • Patent number: 7339888
Abstract: A plurality of bridges are interconnected between respective ports thereof in a ring shape to configure a network containing a redundant route. When a bridge has a blocking port, the bridge transmits to the network a blocking advertisement containing information indicating that it has a blocking port and its address. When a bridge does not have a blocking port, the bridge transmits a line failure notification to other bridges having a blocking port when a line failure is sensed. When a bridge has a blocking port and the line failure notification has been received from other bridges, the bridge transmits to the network a blocking release advertisement indicating that the blocking port has been transited to a forwarding state and the blocking state has been released. When a bridge receives a blocking release advertisement packet, the bridge erases a forwarding database thereof.

  • Patent number: 7336683
Abstract: An exemplary satellite communication system comprises a service provider unit communicably coupled to a number of subscriber units via satellite transmission. The service provider unit includes an encoder configured to encode source data into a serial transmit sequence, and is further capable of supporting at least two modes of operation. The serial transmit sequence includes a first unique word identifying a first mode of operation, and is followed by a first payload packet having a first number of channel symbols corresponding to a source packet encoded in accordance with the first mode of operation identified by the first unique word. The first payload packet is encapsulated by two unique words and the time interval between the two unique words is used to determine the first mode of operation identified by the first unique word.

  • Patent number: 7336605
Abstract: A method for establishing a connection with a guaranteed bandwidth for transmitting data over a logical link that includes a plurality of parallel physical links between first and second endpoints. A link bandwidth is allocated on each of the physical communication links so as to include a predefined safety margin, based on either a failure protection policy, or a measure of fluctuation that occurs in a rate of data transmission over the physical links, or both. A sum of the allocated link bandwidth over the plurality of the parallel physical links is substantially greater than the guaranteed bandwidth of the connection. The data are conveyed over the logical link by distributing the data for transmission among the physical links in accordance with the allocated link bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 7330428
Abstract: A hardware scheduler for a grooming switch with at least three switching stages accumulates a list of connection requests that cannot be granted given currently granted connection assignments. At a designated time, two data structures are dynamically built: an xRAM which records, for each output of a switch slice, which input is currently assigned to that output; and a yRAM which records, for each of the same outputs, the output of a second switch slice that is connected to a corresponding input of the second switch slice. Connections are assigned to satisfy the stored unassigned requests, by reassigning existing connection assignments using the xRAM and yRAM data structures.
