Patent number: 6413114Abstract: The present invention prevents a female connector that has been inserted in an inclined manner from interfering with male terminal fittings within a connector having long male terminal fittings provided in a central location within a hood. A cylindrical member 13 surrounding long male terminal fittings 12L protrudes from an inner side face 11 of the hood 10. Interferences between the long male terminal fittings 12L, and a comer Fb of a female connector F is prevented by appropriately determining the length to which the cylindrical member 13 will protrude. Interference between the female connector F and the long male terminal fittings 12 does not need to be taken into consideration in determining the protruding length of the hood 10. Consequently, the protruding length of the hood 10 can be relatively short.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2001Date of Patent: July 2, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Makoto Fukamachi

Patent number: 6406303Abstract: A coaxial type connector has largely rectangular cross-sections, with an outer contact width (E) that is much larger than its height (H). As a result, the impedance is lowest in primary sectors (140, 142) that extend between the inner contact (20) and top and bottom inside surfaces (136, 138) of the outer conductor, while the impedance is highest in secondary sectors (144, 146) that extend horizontally from the inner conductor to each side (132, 134) of the outer conductor. Applicant maintains a largely constant impedance at the primary sectors, while allowing changes in impedance at the secondary sectors as by cutouts (60, 160) in insulation at the secondary sectors for receiving retention tabs. As a result of the largely rectangular shape, the center contact can be formed of sheet metal of constant height (J) and of a width that can vary to provide enlargements (94, 96, 92) for retention and for mating at the front end of the connector, with minimal overall impedance change.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Michael Lawrence Kosmala

Patent number: 6368164Abstract: A connector is provided to detect partial mounting of a retainer. A female housing 11 of the connector 10 is provided with an escaping portion 20, which is aligned with a lock arm 14 in its deforming direction only when a retainer 15 is mounted in a full locking position. By being aligned with the escaping portion 20, the lock arm 14 is enabled to undergo an elastic deformation to permit the connection of the female housing 11 with a male housing 12. On the other hand, if the retainer 15 is partly mounted without reaching the full locking position, the escaping portion 20 is not aligned with the lock arm 14, which refrains the lock arm 14 from being sufficiently elastically deformed. As a result, the female and males housings 11, 12 cannot be connected, which enables detection of partial mounting of the retainer 15. Thus, partial mounting of the retainer 15 can be securely detected by setting a degree of deformation of the lock arm 14 larger than a clearance between the housings 11 and 12.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Hideto Nakamura
