  • Patent number: 7046167
Abstract: An adaptive collision load path modification system (10) for a vehicle (12) includes multiple object detection sensors (14) that generate object detection signals. The system (10) may include a structural stiffness-adjusting device (46), which is coupled within a frame rail (58, 62) of the vehicle (12), and in addition or alternatively a tire deflation apparatus (48). A controller (18) is coupled to the object detection sensors (14) and through use of the structural stiffness-adjusting device (46) or the tire deflation apparatus (48) adjusts collision load paths of the vehicle (12) in response to the object detection signals. In so doing, the controller (18) may activate the structural stiffness-adjusting device (46) and deflate a tire (76) of the vehicle (12).

  • Patent number: 7042338
Abstract: An emergency hailing device for use by elderly, physically challenged, addicted and medically at-risk users, particularly when living alone. The device periodically interrogates the at-risk user and in absence of a prompt response to the automatic interrogation signal cue, the at-risk user is presumed to need help and an emergency service or prearranged care-provider is automatically beckoned. The device may be worn or set near the at-risk user, available for immediate manual acknowledgment after the interrogation cue signal occurs. Failure to return a prompt response within a presettable time or response absence indicates that a problematic situation may exist and an emergency signal is activated assuring the at-risk user that help will be promptly hailed even if physical or mental incapacitation occurs. Emergency signal may include a bell or siren, a flashing-light to attract neighbors, or a predetermined telephone may be auto-dialed to hail a prearranged care-provider.

  • Patent number: 7034671
Abstract: The sensor unit is operated based on a first timing signal with a first interval. If there is no second timing signal with a second interval longer than the first interval, a tire internal-pressure information signal is transmitted when the alarm device judges a moving of a vehicle based on a signal from the tire rotational-movement detecting means, the signal having the tire internal-pressure data with a start bit, and the transmission of the tire internal-pressure information signal is stopped when the device judges a non-moving of said vehicle. If there is the second timing signal, the tire internal-pressure information signal is transmitted when the device judges the moving of the vehicle and N pieces of tire internal-pressure information signals are transmitted at third intervals (N is a natural number not less than 2) when the device judges a non-moving of the vehicle, each tire internal-pressure information signal having the tire internal-pressure data with said start bit.

  • Patent number: 7034709
Abstract: A vehicle occupant sensing system for detecting a condition of a vehicle seat. The system includes a circuit carrier, an electric circuit with a plurality of leads, and at least one sensor that has a plurality of terminals. Also, the system includes a plurality of conductive connectors associated with the corresponding terminals and leads. The connectors each include a body disposed for electrical communication with the associated terminal and include at least one deformable blade. The blade extends into the circuit carrier and into electrical communication with the associated lead of the circuit, thereby mechanically attaching the conductive connector to the carrier while providing electrical communication between the sensor and the circuit. Also included is a method of manufacturing the same. By piercing the carrier and the circuit, the blade establishes a more robust mechanical and electrical connection for the sensor, thereby increasing the operating life of the system.

  • Patent number: 7030754
Abstract: A transmitter comprises a signaling history information transmission unit. After the transmitter generates a detection signal, the signaling history information transmission unit sends corresponding signaling history information to a regular signal transmission unit. From this regular signal transmission unit, the signaling history information and a regular signal are transmitted to a receiver. The signaling history information contains a count value which is updated at every transmission of the information. Even if the transmitter generates a detection signal during a communication failure, the receiver can identify a time when the transmitter generated the detection signal, based on a received count value.

  • Patent number: 7012533
Abstract: A child car seat with a built-in cushion switch that closes when the seat is occupied. Also, push type switches are added to at least one of the vehicle's side passenger doors with signals being routed to a micro-controller unit, which determines when the car seat is occupied AND when one of the doors is open and enables the vehicle's internal beeper alarm, thereby reminding any occupants exiting the vehicle that a child is strapped in the back seat. Additionally, an inside temperature sensor is coupled to the micro-controller unit, which sets off a loud external alarm such as the vehicle's security alarm, when the temperature inside the vehicle goes above or below a safe preprogrammed environmental range. This is an additional safety feature that will get the attention of people outside the vehicle, indicating that a child is trapped in a dangerous environment inside the vehicle and needs help.

  • Patent number: 7005988
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting shoplifting or theft, particularly in a retail environment, using radio-frequency identification (“RFID”). Preferred embodiments leverage RFID tags on merchandise and RFID data that is written at the point of sale on the merchandise-borne RFID tags themselves, on the customer's receipt, or both. Some embodiments also leverage RFID tags on customer identification or “loyalty” cards. After writing RFID data on the merchandise-borne tags and/or receipt, a matching operation is performed at an RFID reader when the shopper and his merchandise exit the premises, in order to determine whether the shopper has paid for the items in his possession.

  • Patent number: 7002480
Abstract: A deposit detector in which deposit on a detection surface has a surface shape effect, and generation of a flashing phenomenon caused by irregular reflection of the light incident on the deposit from the outside is estimated. In a deposit detection mode, light emitted from a light source (10) for total reflection and total-reflected from the detection surface is received by a light-receiving element unit (50). Each element is disposed at such an angle that the light undergoes total reflection when no deposit is present or the condition of total reflection is not satisfied when deposit is present. Further, in a light-scattering deposit detection mode, light emitted from a scattering light source (20) and scattered by the detection surface is received by the light-receiving element unit (50). In an extraneous light quantity increase detection mode, extraneous light is received by the light-receiving element unit (50).

  • Patent number: 6992569
Abstract: A safety shutdown system is provided for use with a fluid delivery system, such as used on a delivery vehicle. The safety shutdown system includes a plurality of sensors for sensing characteristics of a fluid delivery system. A controller includes a query timer function initiated in response to the sensed characteristic of the fluid delivery system and/or in response to activation of selected vehicle functions. The operator may repeatedly reset the query timer before it times out by pressing a button on a wireless transmitter. If the timer times out, however, the controller automatically shuts off a vehicle engine and/or closes a valve to prevent further fluid delivery.

  • Patent number: 6989753
Abstract: An embodiment of a method of identifying a reminder event of the present invention includes receiving identifications over time. Each identification indicates proximity to a place or thing. A log of at least some of the identifications is made. • Patent number: 6989747
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for detecting unauthorized removed of electronic equipment. The arrangement is arranged between a power source and the electronic equipment and includes a first current recognizing element. The detection of unauthorized removal is obtained by sensing a level of the current that flow to the electronic equipment. Furthermore, a signal is sent to the electronic equipment so that the signal is adapted to bounce back to the arrangement. The detection of unauthorized removal is obtained when the current sensed is lower than a predetermined value and the bounced back signal is absent.
