  • Patent number: 8787465
Abstract: An embodiment improves the operation of a H.264 and Joint Scalable Video Codec (e.g., JSVC/H.264 Amendment 3) video decoder by managing neighboring block data during the decoding process. An embodiment pre-computes neighboring block tables to efficiently locate the neighboring block data required to decode a current macroblock. In particular, the pre-computed most probable joint neighboring block tables disclosed herein handle both macroblock adaptive frame field (MBAFF) coding and non-MBAFF coding. An embodiment is further capable of managing variable block sizes. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8780182
Abstract: A system for generating an image of contoured surface includes a light source that is configured to project an electromagnetic radiation beam onto the contoured surface, wherein the projected beam generates first radiation reflected from a first portion of the contoured surface to form a speckle pattern, and second radiation reflected from a second portion of the contoured surface which is substantially uniform in intensity. The reflected first and second reflected radiation is received by an optical detector, and may be processed. The processing is configured to (1) generate a plurality of images from the first and second reflected radiation, with each image being generated using different coherence length electromagnetic radiation from the light source, and (2) generate a 3-D image of the contoured surface from the plurality of images. Methods for generating a 3-D image of a contoured surface are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8780974
Abstract: In a digital PLL circuit outputting a clock signal with a frequency obtained by multiplying a frequency of a reference signal by a frequency command word (a frequency ratio), an RPA serially adds a frequency command word containing a fractional component. An output of the RPA is input to a minute phase error generator. The phase error generator generates a plurality of threshold values close to an actual amplitude value of the reference signal based on the fractional portion of the serially added value of the frequency command word, calculates the amplitude value of the reference signal and a phase error of the reference signal corresponding to the amplitude value based on the threshold values, and calculates a minute phase error between the reference signal and the output clock.

  • Patent number: 8774264
Abstract: Input MPEG compressed data is input into a partial decoder and a logo insertion controller. A block DCT coefficients (a) output from the partial decoder is divided into a logo insertion region (c) and a non-logo insertion region (d) in a logo insertion region separator. Logo data (e) supplied from a logo information supply section is combined into the logo insertion region (c) with an arbitrary mixing ratio in a logo information insert section. In a logo region partial re-encoder, intra-frame coding of an image insertion region is executed when a starting frame for inserting an image is an intra-coded frame or a predictive coded frame, and, when the starting frame is a bidirectionally predictive-coded frame, inter-frame coding of the image insertion region is executed, and intra encoding of the image insertion region is executed in a frame to which the starting frame for inserting the image can refer.

  • Patent number: 8724711
Abstract: Systems, devices and methods for performing luma-based chroma ultra prediction are described. Down-sample filters may be applied to luma values of luma pixel positions to generate reconstructed luma values for chroma pixel positions in a prediction unit of an intra frame. In some implementations, a reconstructed luma value of a chroma position may be used to predict that position's chroma value. In other implementations, reconstructed luma values of neighboring chroma pixel positions may be analyzed to adaptively predict a chroma value for a chroma pixel position.

  • Patent number: 8705615
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods used in motion estimation and in other systems. Embodiments of the invention include a built-in masking function that can be used in conjunction with either a difference measurement. A controllable mask bit may be set for each individual ai:bi comparison. In one embodiment, to include the particular location represented by the ā€œiā€ value in the comparison, the mask bit is left unset; to ignore any location, the mask bit is set. If the mask bit is set, the comparison value is calculated as zero, i.e., there is no difference entered into the calculation, even if there is an actual difference in the two datasets.

  • Patent number: 8693550
Abstract: An encoding apparatus and an encoding method, a decoding apparatus and a decoding method, a recording medium, and a program suitable for encoding image signals with a higher compression ratio for transmission or accumulation. In an arithmetic coding section, from among the syntax elements of input image compression information, the frame/field flag is first encoded by a frame/field flag context model. When the macroblock to be processed is subjected to frame-based encoding, a frame-based context model, specified in the current H.26L standard, is applied. On the other hand, when the macroblock to be processed is subjected to field-based encoding, a field-based context model is applied for the syntax elements described below. The present invention is applied to an encoder for encoding image information and a decoder for decoding image information.
