  • Patent number: 7464711
Abstract: A device for a respirator. A tube is operative to be introduced into a trachea of a patient and supply and discharge gas from the patient's lungs. A first conduit connects the tube to the respirator to discharge exhalation gas. A second conduit extends between the tube and a source of sub-pressure. The second conduit is connected to an exhalation tube of the tube. A third conduit connects the tube to the respirator and supplies inhalation gas. In an active position a valve arrangement keeps the second conduit open and connects the exhalation tube to a source of sub-pressure. In an inactive position the valve arrangement keeps the second conduit closed and the first conduit open. A controller moves the valve arrangement from the inactive position to the active position for a period of time to simulate coughing to cause a gas flow to support transport of secretions.

  • Patent number: 7464707
Abstract: The present invention provides improved anesthesia delivery systems that consistently and reliably deliver anesthesia gas to multiple gas outlets. The systems are particularly useful for anesthetizing multiple mammals and living specimens to be imaged by a low-light level imaging system. The anesthesia delivery systems are suitable for use with conventional oxygen sources, and convert the high pressures associated with a conventional oxygen source to lower pressures suitable for use with small mammals and suitable for combination with an anesthesia gas at low flow rates. The systems include an anesthesia gas source that combines anesthesia gas with the oxygen. The combination of anesthesia gas and oxygen is supplied to one or more multiple outlets.

  • Patent number: 7461649
Abstract: An inhaler comprising a compressed gas, such as Heliox gas is provided. The disclosed inhaler includes a first chamber containing a compressed gas which is in communication with an equalization chamber having pressure lower than the pressure of the gas in the first chamber. The inhaler also includes a drug storage chamber which is detachably coupled to the equalization chamber and operable such that a portion of the compressed gas from the equalization chamber fluidizes and aerosolizes the drug to produce a drug cloud. The drug cloud is directed into a spacer where it can be inhaled by a user.

  • Patent number: 7451764
Abstract: A nasal mask comprising a pair of main bodies, which respectively form a containing space having an open end and a through-hole end; a connection which connects the edges of the opening ends of the main bodies; and a filtration device disposed inside the containing space of the main bodies. An alar projection is disposed at the upper brim of the opening end of the main bodies, which seals with the superior alar nasi of the nasal cavity. The main bodies forms a structure sealed with the nasal cavity. The main bodies of the nasal mask is made of soft elastic material and seals with the nasal cavity through the arrangement of an alar projection at the upper margin of the opening end of said main bodies that provides the wearer a sense of comfort.

  • Patent number: 7448384
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for detecting the start of a dive for implementation in a portable electronic device (1) of the diving computer type. More specifically, the method is for implementation in a device of this type having at least a first operating mode and a second operating mode, called the dive mode. This device includes a pressure sensor (5) for measuring the ambient pressure value (P) and electronic circuits (2) for processing the pressure measurement results including a time base (4) and at least one memory zone (7, 8). The detection method according to the present invention more particularly proposes making correction to certain measured pressure values before storing them as reference pressure values (Pref). Thus, the start of a dive can be detected with a high level of reliability solely on the basis of ambient pressure measurements.

  • Patent number: 7448378
Abstract: An information processing device for a diver used for diving by using a plurality of mixed gases in which the mixture ratios of a plurality of diving gases are the same or different determines the switch timing of the mixed gas on the basis of a preset scheduled dive pattern and an actual dive pattern up to present. A notification is issued regarding the switch timing and information for specifying the mixed gas to which a switch is to be made based on this switch timing. When the diver selects one of the cylinders as the cylinder to which the switch is to be made and in which the mixture ratio of the diving gas is different, processing is carried out that prohibits switching to the selected cylinder when it is determined that the selected cylinder may create a danger of oxygen deficiency or oxygen poisoning.

  • Patent number: 7445006
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present invention, an accessory for an aerosol inhalation system includes a main conduit body having an outlet end for placement close to a mouth of a patient, and first and second leg conduits that are in fluid communication with the main conduit body. The accessory further includes a holding chamber having a first compartment and a second compartment separated from the first compartment, with the first compartment being sealingly and fluidly coupled to the one port associated with the first leg conduit and the second compartment being sealingly and fluidly coupled to a port associated with the second leg conduit. An arrangement of valves is provided such that when the patient exhales, the first leg conduit is sealingly closed off from the main conduit body and the second leg conduit resulting in the aerosol particles flowing into and being held in the first compartment of the holding chamber.

  • Patent number: 7426929
Abstract: A long term oxygen therapy system having an oxygen supply directly linked with a patient's lung or lungs may be utilized to more efficiently treat hypoxia caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The system includes an oxygen source, one or more valves and fluid carrying conduits. The fluid carrying conduits link the oxygen source to diseased sites within the patient's lungs. A collateral ventilation bypass trap system directly linked with a patient's lung or lungs may be utilized to increase the expiratory flow from the diseased lung or lungs, thereby treating another aspect of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The system includes a trap, a filter/one-way valve and an air carrying conduit. In various embodiments, the system may be intrathoracic, extrathoracic or a combination thereof. In order for the system to be effective, an airtight seal between the parietal and visceral pleurae is required. Chemical pleurodesis is utilized for creating the seal.
