Abstract: A method and system to improve personal and collaborative information management and search. The method is to actively or passively capture pieces of information and the connections among them across disparate technologies and the human mind, while people keep working with familiar tools, and to snapshot such information objects to be globally addressed, persistent in time, and hyperlinked based on the connections. The system can be injected in existing digital information technology (servers and the cloud or personal and mobile computing devices) to capture, connect, share, synchronize, search and serve the information objects and their connections. This is particularly effective in finding information that is buried and disorganized across devices, applications, internet accounts, and people, or information and connections in the users' mind and actions that otherwise do not get captured in digital form.

Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods for discovering and presenting important information about a text object are disclosed. The system comprises a user interface for displaying important information extracted from a text object, serving as a preview of the topics, or as an automatically-generated tag or a summary of the content in the text object. The information is discovered by a method based on the grammatical attributes and occurrence information of terms in the text object, as well as in external text objects.

Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for importing and exporting data in a network-based customer relationship application is provided. Data to be imported/exported between an origin and a destination is identified. Then, a set of predetermined rules associated with the customer relationship application and at least one user-created scripting function are identified. For importing, the destination is associated with the customer relationship application, and the data is imported from the origin to the destination utilizing the network in accordance with the predetermined rules and is transformed based on the user-created scripting function. The data is then stored in memory accessible to the customer relationship application. For exporting, the origin is associated with the application, the data is exported from the origin to the destination utilizing the network in accordance with the predetermined rules and is transformed based on the user-created scripting function.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for transparent support for distributed transactions in a clustered disk-sharing database environment is disclosed. In one approach, a method, a system and a computer program product are disclosed that disassociate a transaction with a session at a first resource manger, send a request to a second resource manager for the transaction that requires access to stored transaction information from prior requests for the transaction, determine whether the second resource manager has access to transaction information for the transaction stored using the session that has been disassociated with the transaction, obtain an identity of the first resource manager in data shared by the first and the second resource managers, and request access to the transaction information at the first resource manager.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed which employ a centralized selection context having selection states spread across user interface elements. Methods are described in which the binding between widgets and data storage is isolated using the centralized selection context paradigm for a majority of data items represented within a user interface. This selection context is fully accessible by methods that access data while considering the current selection context. The centralized selection context simplifies event-handling logic by having selection context readily available thus removing the need to query individual widgets for their state.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses enable synchronization of shared data in a cluster of ranked repositories. A publisher repository issues a change message indicating a change in shared data. A subscriber repository receives the change message and determines whether the change message is previously known to the subscriber repository. If the message is previously known, the subscriber repository terminates the change message. If the message is not previously known, the subscriber repository republishes or sends a change message in response to receiving the change message. The republished message can be republished in a variety of ways based on the characteristics of the change message and characteristics of the subscriber repository.

Abstract: This patent application relates to button-activated contextual search techniques for providing contextually relevant search functionality on a display. The single button can be a search button on a pointing device (e.g., a computer mouse device, touch pad, track ball device, etc.) configured to move a pointer on the display. The pointer can be moved to a location that is on or near an entity on the display, allowing a search to be enabled and/or performed for that entity when the search button is activated (e.g., with a single user click). Furthermore, the search functionality can be based on one or more automatically generated search terms for the entity, and thus be contextually relevant to the entity.

Abstract: A method for providing information exchange and analysis to a medical knowledge database that collects, organizes, and retrieves clinical experience information sets submitted by a plurality of treatment providers and researchers. The plurality of treatment providers and researchers submit clinical information containing biological sequences, signs and symptoms, and medical assessments to the database. the method searches the database for similar cases and if none are found, creates a new searchable case for the database and utilizes statistical calculations to determine an optimal treatment protocol, a treatment progression probability, and a patients personalized predicted medical future.

Abstract: A database comprises a database interface and a database updater. The database interface enables a reading of a first set of information from the database. The database updater updates a second set of information in the database based at least in part on one or more conditions. The one or more conditions limit changes allowable to the first set of information from the database that occurred after the reading of the first set of information from the database.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments described herein relate to techniques for user feedback driven dynamic query rewriting in complex event processing (CEP) environments. In certain example embodiments, the adjustment of already-initiated queries may be permitted during runtime in order to help continuously or substantially continuously meet a user's requirements. In certain example embodiments, parameters of a query may be adapted dynamically, e.g., without the need to redeploy it. Adaptable parameters in certain example embodiments may be identified and/or based on, for instance, an automatic determination from original query creation, user specifications, the way in which a user interacts with a user interface for visualizing the results of queries, etc.

Abstract: One embodiment relates to a computer-implemented method for multiple-keyword matching performed using a computer including at least a processor, data storage, and computer-readable instructions. A keyword set and a text input to be searched are obtained. The keyword set is processed to create a reverse trie. A search procedure which starts from the end of the text is then applied using the reverse trie to find keyword occurrences in the text input. An index may be built at least partially on the data fields involved in parent-child relationships.

Abstract: A query for a help system includes data about a user system and a task that the user is attempting. The query may be used by a search engine to generate relevant results to aid the user. The user system data may include configuration data about hardware and software. The task data may be derived from the current state of a device, or from operational history that may be developed from a single user or a group of users. The query may have a mechanism to weight various keywords or components of the query and a feedback system may adjust the weights for future queries.

Abstract: A method of determining a geographic area having similar characteristics to a first geographic area associated with a user includes receiving a plurality of inputs related to characteristics of a plurality of geographic areas and constructing a feature vector for each of the geographic areas based on the plurality of inputs. The method also includes receiving a plurality of inputs related to characteristics of the first geographic area and constructing a feature vector for the first geographic area associated with the user. The method further includes receiving an input from the user related to a city of interest, comparing the feature vector for the first geographic area to feature vectors associated with geographic areas located in or adjacent to the city of interest, and ranking the geographic areas located in or adjacent to the city of interest using the comparing step.

Abstract: Techniques for category-based content recommendation are described. Some embodiments provide a content recommendation system (“CRS”) configured to recommend content items (e.g., Web pages, images, videos) that are related to specified categories. In one embodiment, the CRS processes content items to determine entities referenced by the content items, and to determine categories related to the referenced entities. The determined entities and/or categories may be part of a taxonomy that is stored by the CRS. Then, in response to a received request that indicates a category, the CRS determines and provides indications of one or more content items that each have a corresponding category that matches the indicated category. In some embodiments, at least some of these techniques are employed to implement a category-based news service.
