Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein to predict events within a content stream. Based on the predicted events, information may be embedded within the stream. A computing device that receives the content stream may detect the predicted event and may wait a randomly generated time before requesting information associated with the predicted event, such as requesting an advertisement to output. After detecting the predicted event, the computing device may wait a randomly generated time before requesting an advertisement. The system may respond to the computing device with an instruction or with supplemental content, such as with an advertisement for later output. The computing device may cache the advertisement. The computing device may detect the actual marker indicating a timestamp for when the advertisement should be output. The computing device may output the advertisement at the time indicated by the timestamp.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for enabling user-preferred trick-play modes. More particularly, the present disclosure provides a method for enabling user-preferred trick-play modes based on content classifications of a content item. In embodiments described herein, methods and systems are provided for varying the user experience with respect to trick-play operation. For example, experience may be varied based on the content being consumed or based on a combination of content being consumed and computing device being used.

Abstract: A method and system method of providing new content as part of a first broadcast signal being transmitted as a second broadcast signal includes receiving a first broadcast signal that is broadcast from a first transmitter, extracting and storing a portion of the data content from the received first broadcast signal. The method further includes receiving a marker stream that identifies a splice point in the first broadcast signal while providing media content from the received first broadcast signal as part of a second broadcast signal. In response to the identification of the splice point in the first broadcast signal, providing the extracted data content in place of the media content received as part of the second broadcast signal until a determination to end providing the extracted data content is made. The method further includes resuming providing media content from the first broadcast signal when the determination is made.

Abstract: Embodiments presented herein provide systems and methods for unifying data that is stored in disparate namespaces. A system described herein receives an electronic request for data associated with an entity. The electronic request includes a first identifier of the entity in a first namespace. The system includes a digital relation that maps the first identifier to a primary identifier. The system determines additional identifiers that map to the primary identifier in the relation. The additional identifiers are associated with the entity in respective additional namespaces. The system retrieves a consolidated set of profile data associated with the primary identifier, including attributes of the entity within the first namespace and attributes of the entity within the additional namespaces. The system generates an electronic response to the electronic request based on the consolidated set of profile data and sends the response to an application that submitted the electronic request.

Abstract: Techniques for performing a machine learning (ML) cinematic (e.g., movie) question answering are described. According to some examples, a computer-implemented method includes receiving a request from a viewer device at a content delivery service to play a video; sending the video from the content delivery service to the viewer device; receiving, by the content delivery service, a question from the viewer device during playing of the video; generating, by a script context retrieval machine learning model of the content delivery service, a proper subset of a script of the video based on an input of the question; generating, by a cinematic question answering machine learning model of the content delivery service, an answer based on an input of the proper subset of the script of the video; and sending, by the content delivery service, the answer to the viewer device.

Abstract: A method includes: accessing a set of errors occurring during playback of segments of a video in a first rendition within a device population during a first time period and, during a subsequent time period, in response to receiving a first request for a first segment of the video in the first rendition: deriving, from the set of errors, a first error rate associated with the first segment in the first rendition; and, in response to the first error rate falling below a threshold, serving the first segment. The method also includes, in response to receiving a second request for a second segment of the video in the first rendition: deriving, from the set of errors, a second error rate associated with the second segment in the first rendition; and in response to the second error rate exceeding the threshold, serving the second segment in a second rendition.

Abstract: A network management device includes a processor which ranks multiple moving images taken by wireless communication terminals simultaneously capturing one of multiple sections in an event venue to select multiple moving images ranked higher for the section. The processor increases uplink throughput for the multiple wireless communication terminals corresponding to the multiple moving images ranked higher for the selected section. The processor generates an overall video signal including multiple video signals corresponding to the multiple wireless communication terminals for which the uplink throughput is increased. The processor supplies the generated overall video signal to at least one reproduction device in which moving images are reproduced. The overall video signal is in a format that enables the reproduction device to simultaneously reproduce the multiple moving images corresponding to the multiple video signals in the overall video signal.

Abstract: Methods are provided of dynamically customizing a media content during playing of the media content by a media player. These methods include performing a listening process to capture from the media player a playing condition on the playing of the media content, and sending, to a server computer system, a customization request based on the playing condition. These methods may further include receiving, from the server computer system, a customization response in reply to the customization request, the customization response including a media chunk to be embedded in or with the media content to customize the media content. These methods may still further include providing the customization response to the media player for the media player to embed the media chunk in or with the media content through a media embedder code. Computer programs, systems and computer systems that are suitable to perform such customizing methods are also provided.

Abstract: A method for providing programmatic commercial insertion for a hybrid radio-TV channel of a system includes providing integrated or combined radio content from a radio system for broadcasting on the hybrid radio-TV channel, providing television content from a television system for display on the hybrid radio-TV channel during the content blocks; determining whether a video content is available from the radio system or from ad server during the ad insertion point; and determining whether a pre-loaded logo is available from the radio system during the ad insertion points. The method further includes inserting the video content from the radio system into the hybrid radio-TV channel for display if available, otherwise inserting the video content from the ad server, otherwise inserting the pre-loaded logo from the radio system, or otherwise displaying the video content from the television system and/or from the hybrid radio-TV channel. An associated system is also provided.

Abstract: This application provides a video processing method and a related apparatus, to perform scene analysis and scene transition analysis on a video recorded by a user, to delete an invalid segment from the recorded video, edit a plurality of highlight video segments from the recorded video, and fuse the plurality of highlight video segments into one highlight video. In this way, viewing experience of the video recorded by the user can be improved.

Abstract: A digital content storage and delivery system (DCSDS) includes a network interface to communicate data between the DCSDS and a destination device via a network data communication link having limited bandwidth. An input interface receives digital content for handling by the DCSDS. A storage architecture stores recorded video content on behalf of subscriber end users for on-demand playback via the network data communication link, and it caches live streaming video content for distribution via the network data communication link. The DCDS may monitor bandwidth usage of the network data communication link, determine current bandwidth demand for playback of recorded video content stored at the storage architecture, and reserve at least some of the limited bandwidth of the network data communication link to satisfy the determined current bandwidth demand. The available bandwidth is allocated to support distribution of live streaming video from the DCSDS.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for reconstructing censored media to an uncensored form using techniques such as content recognition, contextual analysis, facial analysis, voice fingerprinting, and voice reproduction, at the server level within a provider/server/client ecosystem, or at the client level. Specifically, a server or client receives a media stream, then buffers the media stream in a transitory and/or non-transitory memory and identifies a censored audio portion of the buffered media stream. The server then analyzes the video portion of the media stream and constructs a modified version of the censored audio portion based on the analysis of the video portion. The server then transmits, or the client then receives, the modified version of the media stream, which has the uncensored audio version of the censored audio portion of the media stream.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for recommending content restrictions to a user based on chatter in a social network of the user. The system analyzes chatter in the social network to identify a correlation between what is posted by users and the content that the users are posting about. The system stores a mapping between chatter and expected attributes of the content referenced by the chatter. The system will determine whether to block the content when an expected attribute is associated with a content restriction.

Abstract: A method and system for providing, to a user device configured for providing content to a user, one or more personalized content item recommendations. The method comprising: retrieving a seed content item identifier from user data stored in a user profile; using the seed content item identifier to generate a plurality of initial content item recommendations; sorting the plurality of initial content item recommendations based on the user profile; and providing one or more of the sorted content item recommendations as personalized content item recommendations to the user device.
