  • Patent number: 11484148
Abstract: Provided is an apparatus for preparing a coffee beverage portion from a volume of water and a mass of coffee beans. The apparatus includes a brewing chamber for containing the ground coffee. The chamber admits water via an inlet. The water contacts the ground coffee contained within the chamber, and exits the chamber via an outlet. A ground coffee supplier dispenses coffee beans to the chamber, and a water supply supplies water to the chamber. A controller controls the ground coffee supplier and the water supply such that the coffee beverage portion is brewed in a plurality of brewing steps. Each brewing step includes passing a fraction of the water volume through the chamber so as to contact a further fraction of the coffee beans mass during a time period equal to the desired brewing time. Further provided is a method of preparing a coffee beverage portion.

  • Patent number: 11485031
Abstract: Conventional herb strippers can be tedious, time consuming, and awkward to use. Accordingly, the present inventors devised new tools and methods that allow faster and easier herb stripping. One tool includes an herb stripping notch configured to engage the plant stem of an herb at an intermediate point between its two ends, with the edges of the notch stripping leaves as the notch is moved over the stem or the stem is pulled through the notch. In some embodiments, one or more of these notches, for example six, are included in a blade structure, with the notches arranged in a smallest-to-largest sequence. The blade structure may also includes a knife edge, enabling it to serve the added function of a knife.

  • Patent number: 11484041
Abstract: A method and equipment for extracting dissolvable solids from small particles using a staged, counter-current battery of centrifuges is described. The advantages gained by working with particles having a mean diameter smaller than 50 microns and doing the extraction with the particles dispersed in a non-flowing liquid are (1) a significant reduction in the concentration gradient of the dissolvable solids across the diameter of the particles and throughout the body of particles being extracted in a comparable standard column battery and (2) higher overall yields because extraction can be conducted to a uniform limit rather than being constrained by a local (surface or column position) limit. As regards coffee extraction, the equipment and method are intended for the production of high quality concentrated coffee extracts rather than the production of soluble or instant coffee.

  • Patent number: 11470852
Abstract: A system and method of manufacturing a fermented coffee formulation produces roasted and fermented coffee beans, fermented coffee juice, and a fermented coffee oil. The system includes a quantity of unprocessed coffee fruit, a quantity of primary fermentation blend, a supplemental fermentation blend, a first container, a second container, a roasting machine, and a cooling tray. The method begins by fermenting the quantity of unprocessed coffee fruit with the primary fermentation blend in the first container for coffee cherry juice. Then, a quantity of fermented coffee beans is separated from a quantity of fermented coffee fruit. In order to produce coffee beans, the quantity of fermented coffee beans is lightly roasted with the roasting machine, cooled with the cooling tray, and fermented again with the supplemental fermentation blend in the second container. A quantity of reroasted-and-refermented coffee beans is produced with the roasting machine. Fermented coffee oil is then extracted.

  • Patent number: 11406121
Abstract: A rice cooker assembly uses machine learning models to identify and classify content in grain mixtures thereby to provide better automation of the cooking process. As one example, a rice cooker has a chamber storing grains. A camera is positioned to view an interior of the chamber. The camera captures images of the contents of the chamber. From the images, the machine learning model determines whether the contents of the chamber includes one type or multiple types of grain or whether the contents of the chamber includes any inedible objects. The machine learning model further classifies the one or more types of grains and inedible objects if any. The cooking process may be controlled accordingly. The machine learning model may be resident in the rice cooker or it may be accessed via a network.
